Chapter 640: Wanna Be A Streamer?
After that, I actually took a look at the streaming scene and I have to say that I severely underestimated the size of the market.
"Is this streamer like… Crazy rich or something?" I asked.
Ries grinned, "There's no doubt about it! With that many viewers, their wealth could even rival big companies! The amount of power they hold with just their media presence is also extremely big!"
"Who is this person?"
Ries shrugged, "They never showed their face and they had admitted that they were not using their real voice during their streams so no one even knows who they are. But I'm pretty sure this guy is living comfortably within the Inner Colonies."
Yeah… With that many viewers, if one viewer even donated one Credit, this person would be a quadrillionaire with just that single stream alone… That is really scary.
"They don't do sponsorships and stuff?"
"Nope. They said they are only interested in playing games and nothing else and rejected any partnerships. Although they do play for a professional gaming team at least."
Amber nuzzled against my cheek with her head, "Ehehehe~ Does Tera want to be filthy rich too?"
I turned to raise an eyebrow at her, "What do you mean?"
"Mmmm~ Because if Tera wants to be rich like that, it's really simple, you know? We can also start a streaming account and we will just post videos of you cooking! I can guarantee you'll be a GalaNet sensation very quickly!"
I scoffed, "I doubt it. I'm pretty sure people would figure out that I don't exactly have a cooking license or whatever that thing is called. Then I might even be hunted down by whatever association is responsible for making sure chefs have that license and then fined or even jailed for trying to cook without a license."
Amber scoffed, "Hmph! Like as if those people would even want to step out of the Inner Colonies to begin with. We'll be fine!"
"Well… I don't really want to risk it anyway. Especially since I'm also using the kitchen appliances that should only be accessible for people with the cooking license. If they start to dig into how I got it, it might actually trouble Deidre and I'd hate to bring trouble for her."
"Oh Tera~ I'm sure that you'll actually end up leading a revolution against those people for all the shitty food they have been making and people would figure out what a scam they were!"
"Uh huh… But that would also require them to taste the food I made in the first place right? Remember how skeptical everyone was when they saw me cook for the first time? There's no way they would think that what I'm making was palatable through just a video."
Amber tapped on her cheek, "Hmm… I suppose that's true…"
I waved my hand, "Anyway. I don't think that kind of life is for me anyway. I'm already happy with what I have and if I got all that money, I would probably start to feel less inclined on exploring the galaxy and probably just hole myself up somewhere. Exploring around space with you girls has been really fulfilling and I wouldn't trade it away for something else. Can you imagine if I just gave up the space exploration part and settled on some station just to do cooking videos everyday? That would be boring."
Amber giggled, "Awwww~ Is Tera saying that you love being together with us?"
I turned to give her another kiss before pulling away. "Isn't it obvious? Being able to travel with all of you and experiencing everything together, I wouldn't give that up for anything in the universe."
I then felt a tug on my leg and I turned to see Ries pawing at my shin, a pleading look on her face.
"Me… Me too…"
So cute~
I patted my other thigh and she immediately climbed up to cuddle on my other side before she leaned in to kiss me as well.
Amber giggled, "Careful Tera~ Anymore and I wouldn't be able to hold myself back right now~"
I rolled my eyes at her, "Since when have you ever held yourself back?"
"You have no idea~" She grinned, licking her lips.
Thankfully, Ries came to my rescue by bringing the conversation back on topic, "Umm… Boss? What if we do something else instead? Like… If we streamed you gaming instead?"
I turned back to her, "Why are the both of you so interested in making me join the streaming industry?"
"Oh I guess we might as well just admit it~" Amber giggled, wrapping her legs around my left thigh. "If you had a notable media presence, we could also use it to sell the condiments you make to even more people~"
I blanched, "No way. Making those for Tyle is already troublesome enough. I'm not going to put myself in a position where I have to make even more of it."
Amber waved her hand quickly, "Oh, there's no need to worry about that, Tera! We figured out that even though what we made is still inferior to yours, it is still way better than what is available on the market and people will still fight over it to purchase them! We can just sell what you are willing to make as the premium stuff and then get a fee from the chefs who are using your recipes! That would make us a lot of money too!"
Huh… I didn't even know they were doing that… Doesn't that mean that… Hold on a moment…
"How much money are we even making?"
"Oh, definitely nowhere near what that streamer is making, but definitely enough that we could afford to live comfortably together even if we were to stop being Mercs right now."
I blinked at her, "Does that factor in the cost of maintaining the ship and keeping our current lifestyle?"
Amber nodded enthusiastically, "Yep! So if you ever get tired of wandering around… We can just settle down right now~"
I paused for a moment before shaking my head, "You know what… I'm just going to pretend I never heard any of that… My main goal is still to find Earth and if I know that I'm able to just stop doing anything now, I wouldn't be motivated to do anything at all."
Ries gasped, "That's it, Boss! Why don't we just stream our Merc jobs?!"
I made a face at her, "Is that even a thing?"
Ries bounced on my lap excitedly, "Yes! Look, look!"
She took out her personal terminal again and loaded up the GalaStream page once more.
She then navigated to a category aptly named "Mercs doing Merc things" and I was shown a page that had tons of different creators being listed there.
Ries then went ahead to tap on one randomly and it looks like we just managed to catch them in the middle of a mission of sorts.
The camera was showing some guy ducking behind a wall while bullets were flying through a doorway and the person with the camera also had a pistol in hand.
"Toss a flashbang!!" The camera person yelled.
The guy reached for his waist and tossed the flashbang inside and both of them prepared themselves before a loud bang went off inside the room which was followed by yells of pain.
Both of them then rushed through the doorway and we got to see the first person view of the Mercs shooting down several guys whom I assumed were pirates judging by the way they were dressed.
I raised an eyebrow at Ries, "There's no problem with this content at all?"
Ries shrugged, "If you're worried about our enemies using our streams to plan against us, most creators only upload the recordings after the mission is complete. Unless the mission they are doing doesn't require secrecy."
"Err… That's not what I'm talking about but good to know? I'm wondering if it's alright to show people being killed on stream…"
"Why would that be a problem?"
I blinked at her, "Is there no censorship on the GalaNet?"
"Why would there be censorship on the GalaNet?"
"Eh? Wait… There really isn't?"
Amber giggled, "Oh Tera. If you say things like that, people are really going to think you are from the Inner Colonies. In some places within the Inner Colonies, there might be control over what is accessible there but if you're out in the vast expanse of space, no one is able to control what content you have access to~ Well… Actually, there was an attempt to do so in the past but I believe a war broke out over that so they figured it was not possible to do so anymore and gave up."
Huh… That's actually a good thing I guess?
I turned back to the screen, "But how would we even record something like this?"
Ries giggled, "That's easy boss. There's chest and even head mounted cameras that you can use. Some people who have cybernetically replaced their eyes can also record videos through them~ If you're using the Power Armour, you could just record the videos through the suits external cameras~"
Right… I forgot that you could do that.
Well… I guess we'll just have to see if this is even something that we want to do in the future…
