Wasteland Commander

Chapter 140: The Affable Leader Ye

The defense of the Mountain Cave Base faced an unprecedented challenge.

They imagined various strike methods from the Dawn Army, but never expected that the attackers would be zombies.

No one knew where this wave of zombies came from or how they found this place.

When the dense crowd of zombies gathered outside the cave, the people inside were on the verge of collapse.

They had guns, but the bullets were scarce.

Bullets could threaten people because humans feared casualties.

Zombies didn't care about these things; death was not a burden to them at all.

The only thing Ren Yuquan could hope for was that the bodies of the zombies would block the door.

But this hope was quickly shattered.

Whenever the bodies of zombies piled up, the zombies behind would even intentionally drag those bodies away.

If they were all ordinary zombies, it wouldn't be a big deal. But whenever an Armored Zombie came in, chaos ensued within the Mountain Cave Base.

Ordinary firearms couldn't threaten the Armor, and at this time, Ren Yuquan had to step in himself.

He was an Evolver, and in the post-apocalyptic world, he was one of the fortunate ones.

After becoming a Power Evolver, one of his fellow Evolvers was infected by the zombie virus.

That companion voluntarily asked him to tie him up and said some last words.

After the companion mutated, he found the companion had turned into a monster.

A monster that was blood-red all over, more terrifying than ordinary Armor or Agile Zombies.

However, this monster was tied up, and after killing the monster, he obtained a crystal.

This crystal increased Ren Yuquan's strength a bit more.

Evolvers who used to have similar strength to him seemed weaker now.

Previously terrifying zombies were now just staggering targets.

Enjoying the benefits that strength brought, Ren Yuquan's mindset also changed.

He started researching, and began targeting those around him who became Evolvers, using the zombie virus injection method to turn them into zombies and collect crystals.

But Evolvers were already rare, and after several attempts with diminishing returns, he thought of research.

He was eager to become a Level 2 Evolver because he heard that the leader of the largest survivor organization in Ice City was a Level 2 Evolver.

Unlike Level 1 Evolvers, the strength of a Level 2 Evolver was akin to a Superman, truly standing firm in the post-apocalyptic world.

For this goal, everyone under his control in the Mountain Cave Base could be a sacrifice.

But today, everything was ruined.

The sudden appearance of the zombie horde disrupted all his plans.

He repeatedly took action himself, collaborating with his subordinates to kill Armored and Agile Zombies.

But in the end, he was still just one person, and he too would tire.

The terror of the zombie horde was beyond his imagination.

The zombies behind would even devour the corpses of the zombies in front. Just as he managed to kill one Armor after much struggle, new Armors would even emerge.

When his arms trembled from chopping off the head of the eighth Armor, and there were still a dozen more Armors outside, he knew it was over.

Facing such a massive horde of thousands of zombies, there was simply no chance of winning.

He couldn't even imagine how the Dawn Army managed to eliminate three hundred thousand zombies.

Perhaps there weren't many Armors among those three hundred thousand zombies.

His subordinates were nearly out of bullets, and there were still many zombies. The strategist beside him spoke up, "Leader Ren, let's go, the Mountain Cave Base can't be defended."

Ren Yuquan was very unwilling to leave. The Mountain Cave Base was his foundation; if it was lost, he would become like a rootless weed.

Where could he go next? Or how could he survive in this man-eating world? Those were all problems.

"Where do we go? These zombies appeared so strangely, maybe they are connected to the Dawn Army. I think even the Survivor Alliance is no match for the Dawn Army." His voice was a bit hoarse.

"In any case, we can't stay here. We can go to Coal City or Ice City. I heard Coal City is already unified, and Ice City's largest power has over 300,000 people. With the leader's abilities, you would definitely be valued there. Once we have power and strength, it's not too late to seek revenge on the Dawn Army."

Ren Yuquan finally wavered.

"Alright then, let's go. Gather our trusted aides and prepare to leave through the secret passage. As for the survivors here, let them stay to be zombie food, it will buy us some time."

His trusted subordinates were quickly gathered.

The Mountain Cave Base didn't have many armed personnel, only a little over a hundred people, besides Ren Yuquan and his strategist, there were also three Evolvers.

Ren Yuquan only gathered those three Evolvers and twenty exceptionally strong armed personnel.

These people were all former hunters from the mountains, who spent half their lives navigating the mountains and forests, with strong prowess in traversing terrain and excellent marksmanship.

They were gathered by Ren Yuquan and, without notifying others, these twenty-five people set off quietly towards the secret passage.

The battle at the door was still ongoing, and those kept in the dark were still fighting desperately.

But when the tall, dark silhouette of an Armored Zombie walked in, they called for the leaders' support but received no response.

Ordinary firearms couldn't penetrate the skin of Armored Zombies. Charging in under the gunfire without Evolvers to combat the Armored Zombies led to disaster quickly erupting.

The Armored Zombie swung its claw, and several armed personnel turned into rolling calamities.

More zombies flooded in behind, and the situation was becoming uncontrollable.

Ye Fan, who had been holding the line at the back, keenly sensed this.

"Wang Huining, quickly make the zombies stop. We can't expand the scale of killing; there are innocent survivors inside."

"Y-yes... but I can't control it anymore. My abilities aren't what they used to be."

Outside, the masses of the zombie horde were still crowding, and the situation was becoming agitated.

Ye Fan took a deep breath and directly gave the order.

"Eliminate these zombies!"

The combat helicopter ascended, and the machine guns started sweeping across the horde below.

The paratroopers who had already arrived on the scene began precise shooting.

Zombies fell in large numbers, and Wang Huining gradually regained control.

He extracted the zombies inside, and the Dawn Army soldiers rushed in to clean up the battlefield, clearing out the infected armed personnel.

Fortunately, the rescue was timely, and the survivors inside had not yet been affected.

Once the survivors came out, someone immediately reported to Ye Fan that Ren Yuquan had led people to flee.

Ye Fan opened the radar and quickly discovered their whereabouts.

These people had already reached the other side of the mountain, drilling deep into the mountains.

Their speed was extremely fast, indicating they were adept at mountain warfare.

Ye Fan ordered his subordinates to clean up the battlefield and collect the survivors.

The Mountain Cave Base had nearly two thousand survivors, and these people needed to be safely escorted to the Dawn Army Base.

Ye Fan himself, however, was going to pursue the escapees.

Letting such people go is a disaster; they must be eradicated.

The mountain roads at night were treacherous, and sending Red Alert Soldiers alone to pursue wouldn't be effective, so Ye Fan decided to create a squad of military dogs.

The military dogs from the Red Alert System were even more terrifying than wolf packs and were very effective in forest battles.

In the Virtual Military Camp, Ye Fan created thirty military dogs.

Some zombies had not been killed yet, so Ye Fan ordered no one else to act, allowing the military dogs to directly attack the zombies, rapidly promoting after emerging.

In just over half an hour, all the remaining zombies here were dead, and the newly created military dogs had at least reached Two-Star, with some reaching Three-Star.

"Set off!"

Ye Fan was about to order the military dogs to set off when he suddenly remembered that his teacher and classmates were still nearby, Xiaotian and Heaven-Suppressing were there too, so he should go check on them.

Ren Yuquan and his group couldn't escape the great mountain even if they walked all night.

Taking a turn, they reached near the riverbank.

*********

Wu Ting and others finally awoke.

They massaged their aching heads and sat up in confusion.

They even momentarily forgot why they were there.

Not until Wu Ting saw the flyer in her hand did she suddenly recall everything.

"Ye Fan... wants to kill us? So he threatened the base to release people?"

"Ye Fan is the leader of the Dawn Army?"

"The Mountain Cave Base didn't dare confront Ye Fan, so we were thrown out?"

The flood of information overwhelmed them, and for a moment, they found it hard to associate the Ye Fan from school with the base leader.

Zhou Bingtian and others nervously approached Wu Ting.

Zhou Bingtian asked, "Teacher Wu, could Ye Fan be such a ruthless person?"

Wu Ting took a deep breath, "No, no. I understand Ye Fan; despite his usual lecherous look, he's got a good heart."

The classmates began to recall, maybe to muster courage, reminiscing about Ye Fan during their school days.

As if talking about him this way would make him a gentleman.

The surroundings were dark and cold, and although there was a bonfire, this glimmer of light hardly reassured them.

Suddenly, footsteps approached from afar.

The classmates became instantly tense.

In the ghostly forest, sounds emerged.

Crash~~!

A vague white silhouette appeared.

Ye Fan's long-lost voice resonated.

"Teacher Wu, classmates, long time no see."

A look of joy appeared in their eyes, and from Ye Fan's tone, it seemed he bore them no grudge.

The silhouette in the dark approached steadily, "I heard you were here, so I asked them to release you; this is a rare fate..."

Wu Ting was a bit excited too, even though she'd disciplined Ye Fan back in school, it was normal; how many students haven't been disciplined by a teacher?

The beautiful teacher stepped forward with the classmates, and she even wanted to give Ye Fan a hug.

As Ye Fan approached the light, everyone could see him.

He wore a white cloak, his face alternated between light and shadow under the distant firelight.

His shadow elongated, swaying amidst the forest.

Beside him, dozens of pairs of eerie green eyes followed!

With chilling canine fangs, ghostly eyes, and an intimidating giant stature, they breathed out hot air.

Yet Ye Fan approached with open arms.

Facing the long-absent beautiful teacher, Ye Fan felt he should give a hug to show friendliness.

In the flickering firelight, he gave the classmates a toothy grin, a smile that would be unforgettable for a lifetime.
