Chapter 9: 9. The Target, Macragge!
Stellar, Captain's Room.
The silver-haired girl walked into the captain's room with a light step, softly calling out the name of the Rogue Trader: "Noah, I..."
"Quiet, I'm thinking."
Noah, leaning against the captain's chair, raised his hand to interrupt her. Without looking at the girl's expression of extreme grievance, his mind started to think about the next move.
On one hand, Nono, Argenta, and Cassia all had first-round memories, and each of them was eagerly ready to give in at light speed. That left only one wife who hadn't given in yet—White Bean Sprout.
On the other hand, although he didn't yet understand the principle, the wives he had "created" were all real, which was why Nono had a body.
If that's the case, then at least he had a wife from the Inquisition, a psychic wife, a Rogue Trader wife, and a whole series of wives from different identities and social classes, all created by him...
At that time, he was too focused on collecting.
Now that it had become reality, Noah found himself somewhat overwhelmed.
Having too many wives wasn't necessarily a good thing, especially since finding them could be troublesome.
After all, unlike Nono and Argenta, the others wouldn't just deliver themselves on a silver platter.
Theoretically, he had two choices:
First, go look for White Bean Sprout.
But after thinking about it, there was no need, as his wife would give herself up eventually.
Second, follow the original storyline.
This option was immediately dismissed. In the first round, the freedom was limited, and he could only follow the plot.
The original plot was restricted to the area of the Koronus Expanse, and although he would be captured by Comoros halfway, the ending involved defeating the spirits. Compared to a galaxy-wide war, it felt more like child's play.
Moreover, his strength now far exceeded that of the first round.
In the first round, he and Argenta alone dared to punch the Space Undead Dynasty and kick the Great Demon. Now, he had 12 Battle Sisters!
A full 12! Plus at least one squad of intelligent-controlled mechs!
At this rate, wouldn't they just shove the Silent King's head into the sinful abyss?
If he stayed in the small-scale bickering of the Koronus Expanse, it would be a waste.
So, he had to participate in a "big event." Only by doing so could he maximize his profits—even though this would carry high risks, but fortune favors the bold!
After all, he had cheats. No matter how high the risks, they could become zero risks. Whatever he did, he would always win.
If asked what the biggest event close to the 41st millennium and the year 744 was, there was only one answer:
The First Tyrannic War, the Battle of Macragge!
The First Tyrannic War, which broke out in 745.M41, was still timely enough to participate in—provided he could cross over 100,000 light-years from the Koronus Expanse in the northwest of the galaxy to the southeastern edge of the galaxy to reach Macragge in under a year.
Even for humanity, with its ability for warp travel, this was incredibly difficult.
Although humans could theoretically use warp travel to quickly reach anywhere in the galaxy, theory and reality had a small gap.
Human warp travel relied on the spatial and temporal chaos of the warp, guided by the light of Terra's star beacon and navigators who could see its glow, allowing for quick travel over vast distances.
But due to the warp's chaos, unexpected dangers were common during travel.
For example, if you intended to reach a star system 120 light-years away, theoretically, it would take less than 12 hours. However, in reality, you might encounter a series of unpredictable disasters, including warp storms, demon invasions, Ork jumping gangs, or Void Whales flipping.
These mishaps could turn a journey that should have taken half a day into hundreds or even thousands of years, or you could become lost in the warp forever.
Thus, it was necessary to find relatively safe warp routes, establishing stable travel paths between two specific star systems.
For example, the Koronus Expanse, due to its distance from the star beacon's light, could only rely on the warp route "The Maw" connected to the Calixis Sector to travel in and out.
But even the The Maw itself was not a very stable route. Even now, ships still frequently disappeared when passing through it.
But that didn't matter to Noah because he had cheats.
This cheat was essentially an upgraded version of the "Toy Box" mod, with slightly different functions compared to Wind Spirit's Moonshadow.
For example, the Toy Box couldn't modify health, so if someone was killed, they stayed dead.
However, the Toy Box had the "Remove Death" function, meaning while people could be killed, they could also be revived—creating an artificial immortal. WIN.
Additionally, both the plasma gun and the rosarius had machine souls. As long as the machine soul was pleased, infinite shields and ammo were completely reasonable, right?
Don't ask, just know it's Emperor's power!
Unfortunately, not all functions of the Toy Box worked.
When Noah tested and modified its functions, he concluded the following simple rules:
Purely physical modifications were impossible, but anything related to the warp could be modified.
Because of his modifications to the warp, Noah could stabilize dangerous routes, making them not only safe but shorter. He could even ignore distances and create stable warp paths between any two star systems in the galaxy!
This ability was originally part of the game, but each stable route required Insight points to establish. In the game, Insight points were extremely limited, but Noah had unlimited Insight points.
In other words, he was like Mundo now—if he wanted to marry Gnar, he could marry Gnar!
Of course,
"Stability" was relative. It didn't mean there wouldn't be risks during warp travel, nor that the stable route would last forever. If a galaxy-wide warp storm occurred, even the most stable route could be disrupted and become dangerous.
But fortunately, Noah didn't need to worry about this for now. There were still over 200 years until Cadia fell. The only thing he needed to think about was whether he could accomplish something extra before reaching Macragge.
Following the original plot wasn't a priority; small skirmishes were insignificant.
Though he would miss White Bean Sprout, he would just have to ask his wife to wait a bit longer.
"Cassia," Noah raised his head.
"Ah, I'm here!"
Cassia, who had been staring blankly at Noah, hurriedly responded, lowering her head to hide the abnormal flush on her cheeks.
"Please return to the Navigator's Sanctuary as soon as possible. We need to make an emergency jump."
Cassia was surprised: "A jump? Where are we going?"
Weren't they supposed to head to Little Laikad? They could get there via sublight speed; why jump?
"We're going to Macragge."
Cassia's face showed shock. Macragge was on the other side of the galaxy, wasn't it?
This didn't make sense! Why was this so different from the future she saw?
Though Cassia was confused and gave Noah a resentful glance for ordering her to return to the Navigator's Sanctuary immediately, Noah didn't care—he could always pamper his wife, but they needed to head to Macragge right away!
Of course,
Directly traveling from the Koronus Expanse to Macragge would be too shocking, so Noah decided on a phased jump—
Step one, head to the Maelstorm.
Step three, arrive at Macragge!
Clang!
Noah's orders were broadcasted throughout the fleet. The bridge's glass panels were quickly lowered, making a dull crashing sound.
Though the crew's reactions varied, some were confused while others were shocked, none dared to oppose Noah's orders, nor did anyone question him.
They didn't know where they were going, but they knew one thing:
This was the fleet of the Rogue Traders; the merchants could go wherever they wanted!
The silence of the void was shattered by the deafening sound of something being swallowed. The Stellar's warp engine tore a huge rift in the veil between the material universe and the immaterium, and the rift flickered with unnatural colors.
The plasma engine of the ship expelled white-hot flames, pushing the ship into the rift, disappearing into the strange and bizarre world.
