Chapter 109, Kobold's Holy Land

PS. Today's chapter is a full 4,500 words. Isn't that awesome?

"What do you mean impossible?" the Half-Elf asked in confusion.

"This man... this man is a White Wolf Paladin!" Laine displayed the pendant in front of everyone, his face slightly pale: "There's no mistake, the wolf's fang, the White Wolf mark! This person is a White Wolf Paladin!"

"That can't be right. Aren't the White Wolf Paladins supposed to guard the White Wolf Temple in Wolrich Territory for life? Even in death, they're buried within the Temple!" Alfred said in confusion. "As a White Wolf Knight, you should know this best, Laine."

After a White Wolf Knight has thoroughly proven his strength, courage, and honor to the White Wolf War God Yurik, he earns an opportunity to become a White Wolf Paladin. The White Wolf Knight would enter the Holy Fire burning within the White Wolf Temple alone, enduring the trial of the flames.

The Holy Fire grants the believer new power in a terrifying manner, reshaping the White Wolf Knight's spirit and body. Wolf's fangs grow from the gums. As his body is destroyed amidst excruciating pain, the White Wolf Knight must conquer the darkness within himself to avoid being controlled by bloodlust and rage.

A failed White Wolf Knight would be reduced to ashes in the Holy Fire. Only a successful White Wolf Knight would complete the transformation, thus advancing to become the most honorable White Wolf Paladin, forever guarding the Holy Sanctuary of the White Wolf Temple. Only the Grand Master of the White Wolf Knight Order and the White Wolf Archbishop can command him to deploy.

For example, Laine's foster father Norman always hoped that Laine could become a White Wolf Paladin.

"Yes, that's right, throughout history, all White Wolf Paladins have been buried in the White Wolf Temple..." Laine said gravely. He seemed to hesitate slightly when mentioning this secret, then continued: "However, there is one exception. In the Great Holy War a hundred and fifty years ago, the second Chaos Eternal God Chosen 'The Anointed' Aisakuval led the Chaos Army to successively break through many strongholds and defenses of the empire, destroying the capital, and then advanced to the front of White Wolf City."

"The one guarding White Wolf City at that time was the Wolrich Duke Prince-Elector Hedrick Adalbert. Unlike the decaying and corrupt Imperial court and the great nobles of the time, this Prince-Elector was a noble who possessed excellent military skills and firm belief in Yurik. He led the ground forces of Wolrich Territory in full resistance, but the Chaos Army was endless in number. In the end, under Suko City, less than thirty kilometers from White Wolf City, the Prince-Elector's army met with a glorious defeat. The White Wolf Archbishop nobly died in battle, and they had to collectively retreat to White Wolf City, relying on Yurik's Divine Fire to stay firm in this metropolis. Apart from White Wolf City, the entire Prince-Elector's Territory fell."

"The commander of this battle was the former Grand Master of the White Wolf Knight Order 'Ironclaw' Logan Flints. Although no one blamed him, he still could not forgive himself. After the Great Holy War, he set down his White Wolf Knight Badge and left White Wolf City alone. His whereabouts remain unknown to this day... He is the only White Wolf Paladin not buried in the White Wolf Temple."

The implication in Laine's words was clear.

Was the skeleton in front of them Logan Flints?

Everyone turned pale. If the former Grand Master of the White Wolf Knight Order of the Holy Sanctuary had fallen here, could they get out of this place alive?

What secret does this mine hold?!

"Wait, there's a sound!" Laine was the first to hear the noise coming from deeper in the mine.

"Prepare for battle!" Alfred took the shield from his back.

The noise inside the mine grew louder and louder. In the darkness, hunched figures began to emerge.

They were Kobolds, a horde of Kobolds.

The skin of these Kobolds appeared scaly, ranging in color from dark brown to black. They had two light-colored small horns, glowing eyes, straight mouse-like tails, and very rough clothing. Seeing humans appear, they shouted loudly: "Humans! Intruders!"

"Kill them!"

"Slay them all!"

"Never allow them to invade our Holy Land!"

A Kobold Warlock, significantly larger than the others, pointed a wooden magic staff at Laine and his group: "Eliminate the humans!"

A staggering number of Kobold forces surged from all directions, charging toward Laine and his group.

"Hold them back!" Laine signaled everyone to retreat. He stood alone at the forefront. Many Kobolds wielding wooden clubs, scimitars, picks, and flails charged at Laine and the others. Estelle immediately grabbed a handful of feathered arrows. After a sweeping shot, the Kobolds at the front fell one after another, but the mere few Kobold casualties weren't enough to make them retreat.

Alfred had just raised his shield when he felt at least three Kobolds ram into it. After swinging his sword to kill one, more Kobolds swarmed up. Their low-quality weapons continuously struck the Paladin's shield. Feeling surrounded, Alfred immediately raised his sword and shouted: "Divine Judgment!"

Golden energy roared around Alfred, suppressing all the charging Kobolds. Seeing this, Alfred protected Weasley and the guide, fighting while retreating: "Quick, retreat. If we're surrounded, we're done for!"

"Paladin Sir! Thank you so much!" Weasley and the guide, both of average ability, quickly retreated.
