Chapter 44
Zhaolin went on, her eyes serious.
“The first thing you do when you encounter a Snarl is to get down on the ground.” “You want me to get down?” “Yes. Get down and run away from the spot. That’s the first thing in the manual. You should avoid contact with the Snarl as much as possible. Only attack when there’s no way to get away.”Yeon-young scratched her cheek and replayed the manual in her head while Zhaolin spoke.
It was strange that he told her this out of the blue, but it was all good information.
“If you encounter a Snarl in the forest and are injured, you should find the Divine I just gave you and eat it.” “You mean the one that looks like an apple?” “Yes. It will replenish your energy and heal some of the damage you took from the Snarl.” “I’ll have to collect some when I find them in the forest.”Yeon-Young remembered the Divine’s appearance.
It felt like there were no safe zones anymore, not when the Snarl had evolved so far.
Zhaolin shook his head at Yeon-Young’s ramblings.
“It can’t be, because they’re few and far between, hard to find, and once plucked from the stem, they vanish into thin air after a few hours.” “It is a very precious fruit. That’s why you gave it to Yeon-young.”Someone came closer and put a hand on Yeon-young’s shoulder.
She shuddered at the sudden touch and turned around to see Koo Ho-young standing there.
Ho-young was staring at Zhaolin with a mischievous expression on his face.
Beads of sweat were dripping down his face. He wiped some of it off on his pants and offered Yeon-young a handshake.
She gladly shook his hand.
“Hello, I’m Koo Ho-young. I’m the team leader of the center’s security team, and I’m your direct junior.” “Hi, I’m Kim Yeon-young, a member of the special team.” “I know. You’re quite a celebrity at the center these days, aren’t you?” “Am I?”Yeon-young cocked her head, hoping for an answer, but Ho-young just smiled.
Zhaolin glanced at the watch on her left wrist and stared at the entrance of the training center.
She had delivered everything she needed to deliver, so it was time for her to leave.
Left alone with Ho-young, Yeon-young looked at him awkwardly.
Zhaolin, who was fiddling with her necklace, stopped and looked at Ho-young.
“Junior, your team has night training for a week, so you should start preparing today.” “You mean night training?”Ho-young asked, but Zhaolin teleported away.
He wiped the sweat from his face with his hands and looked confused.
Wiping away the sweat revealed his healthy, glowing face more clearly.
He furrowed his brow in frustration and muttered.
“I see the hard work begins today.” “Night training?” “Yes. It’s a run through the woods, so the intensity of the training is tremendous.”Training in the forest at night.
Yeon-young shuddered, remembering the standby duty she’d done with Ryu Won.
It was hard enough to walk up the hill, but if it was a training exercise, he’d surely be exhausted.
It must be painful.
When she looked at him sympathetically, Ho-young burst out laughing.
“Well, since I lost to the newcomer, Ms. Yeon-young, there’s nothing to say.” “You lost to me?” “Uh, on the field earlier. Honestly, I was jealous. Senior Zhaolin brought another junior to the drill ground. It’s the first time that’s happened since me.”Ho-young looked very upset, like a puppy whose owner had been taken away.
He was so similar to her in behavior and speech that it was understandable that he was her junior, but the big difference was his facial expression.
His expression changed a lot depending on his emotions.
“How did you meet her?” “With Ms. Zhaolin? We’re not close.”Yeon-young answered honestly.
Friendship aside, she was glad that Zhaolin didn’t hate her.
She had done everything she told her not to do, so it was no wonder she didn’t like her.
But despite her denials, Ho-young didn’t believe her.
“That can’t be, you didn’t bring her to this training center.” “She must have brought me here because she was frustrated with me, because she suddenly threw Divine around and dragged me to the training grounds.” “You’re her approved student, so she’ll teach you how to use a special fruit. “She suddenly asked me to walk around the drill ground. “She will check your basic fitness and make a training plan accordingly.” “I’m being scolded for not knowing the Snarl manual.” “She doesn’t know the basics, so I’ll teach her again.”The more Yeon-young talked to Ho-young about Zhaolin, the more she realized that it was strange.
No matter what she thought or said about Zhaolin, Ho-young interpreted it in a positive way.
Just as Lee Daeheon is obsessed with Jeong Jaeho, perhaps Koo Ho-young is a spirit obsessed with Sun Zhaolin.
“It’s enough that another spirit did it in the first place. You came yourself because you have affection.”Sun Zhaolin has affection for Kim Yeon-young.
It was as hard to believe as saying that Yeon-young was alive.
But Ho-young was convinced.
“Divine, yes. Do you know how hard it is to get this fruit? But as soon as she got it, she brought it to the center and gave it to you, and now you say you’re not close? Consider it an honor.”Ho-young put his hands on his chest as if to say that he was touched by Zhaolin’s behavior.
As he continued to speak, it seemed that he wasn’t wrong.
Yeon-young blushed unnecessarily and fluttered her clothes to cool off.
“By the way, from what I’ve heard, is it true that you and Mr. Ryu Won are really dating?” “Well… yes.” “Is that okay?”Ho-young frowned at Yeon-young’s affirmative answer.
Not knowing what was okay and what wasn’t, Yeon-young looked at Ho-young with curiosity.
He took a step closer to her and began to whimper.
“Avoid it at all costs.” “Why?” “They don’t call them the ornamental spirits of the center for nothing. They’ve all been spoken to out of respect, and then spanked. It’s better not to touch them.”Ho-young shuddered at what he described.
His explanation didn’t really resonate with Yeon-young.
She was just amused by the nickname of the ornamental ghost.
While Ryu Won had a tendency to use his colorful words to get his point across, she’d never seen him scold someone so harshly.
He’s more on the affectionate side, isn’t he?
One by one, the security team left the training center.
When Ho-young spotted them, they waved at Yeon-young one last time.
“Anyway, since it’s fate that we’re talking to each other like this, let’s run together often when we meet at the training ground.” “Okay.”With that, Ho-young left.
Watching him disappear, Yeon-young was the last to leave the training center, heading for her private office.
If she had a mouth glued to her thigh, it would have screamed.
Still, a strange, disembodied laugh escaped her as she made her way to her office.
Ho-young’s words kept coming back to her.
Zhaolin had a positive view of her.
For some reason, she was excited to be recognized by her superior. She felt a warm feeling inside.
“I’m getting used to it bit by bit.”The backlog of reports she hadn’t wanted to look at before was now interesting.
She reached the office and opened the door.
As soon as she opened the door, she smelled the aroma of ripe, fragrant fruit.
As she looked around the office to find the owner of the scent, she saw something on her desk.
“Divine?”There it was, a Divine in a rattan basket.
On the right side of the basket was a light blue note that read.
[Eat it before it rots].
Confused, Yeon-young checked the other side of the note. It was the only note.
She stood still, like a robot that had been switched off, and picked up the Divine.
No matter how she cut it, this was the Divine.
There was only one soul that would leave it here.
Sun Zhaolin, who helped to explain the Divine.
Yeon-Young thought back over her conversation with Zhaolin to see if she had missed anything, but nothing stood out.
She had no idea when she had visited her office and left the fruit.
Then Ho-young’s words flashed through her mind.
“You’re here because you care.” “Ah.”Looking at the divine on the desk, Ho-young’s words finally made sense.
Ho-young’s words, Zhaolin’s actions, and the Divine in her office.
The pieces of the puzzle fit together.
Yeon-young remembered her rushing out of the training center, saying she had to run errands.
She thought about saving the Divine, a gift of Zhaolin’s courage, but then gave up.
The Divine had said it would be gone in a few hours, so it made sense to eat it now to show her good faith.
Without further ado, Yeon-young took a bite of the Divine.
Mmm.
The texture was completely different from the Divine she had eaten at the training center earlier.
There was only a crunch, like eating a slice of apple.
“Is it underripe?”After swirling the flesh around in her mouth a few times, Yeon-young swallowed slowly.
Then she cleared her throat and dropped the fruit into her hand.
As soon as she swallowed the Divine completely, her stomach rejected the fruit and she gagged.
“Ugh, ugh.”Yeon-Young slowly sank to the floor, clutching the head of her desk.
When the nausea subsided, she felt drowsy, as if she had taken a large dose of sleeping pills.
She closed her eyes completely, feeling that something bad was about to happen.
