Chapter 74: Some Intelligence
Some puzzling thoughts arose in Jin Xu's mind, but no matter what.
Through the secretly known transmitted messages, he confirmed that the two people before him should be considered allies.
After all, the two in front of him did not know that he could capture the content of the transmissions; they surely couldn't be pretending this interaction.
"It seems they have mistaken me for those creatures they mentioned. And judging by their alertness and decisiveness, as well as the clear traces of battle on that diamond-shaped object, these people must also be in a difficult situation in this unfamiliar small world."
The small Taoist eyed the bearded man, his lips suddenly curving into a slight smile.
"I have offended before, I wonder if this object can prove my identity."
Saying this, Jin Xu took out a palm-sized brown stone seal from his storage bracelet and tossed it toward the open window in the Spiritual Power Shield.
He knew that the two people did not trust him, and since the small Taoist had come to this unfamiliar small world, and had seen people like Nan Wubo and others forcefully entering the space rift in the Spirit Realm, he obviously was prepared.
Five days before his departure, someone had already helped him collect personal objects of close associates of the Cultivators from the Spirit Realm who appeared in the projection, to help verify his identity.
And that brown stone seal was the personal item of Ying Sanzhang, the third disciple of Elder Bailin and junior brother of Nan Wubo.
The bearded man quickly caught the seal thrown by the small Taoist, a hint of confusion flashing in his tiger-like eyes.
"This..."
But before he could finish, he sensed Nan Wubo's figure suddenly appearing beside him, snatching the brown seal from his hands.
"The personal seal of little Yingzi?! How do you have this item, it was a gift from our master to him, and he has always treasured it and never let it leave his side!"
As thousands of years had passed, suddenly seeing an old friend's belongings, Nan Wubo's emotions were visibly unchecked.
"Elder Nan, calm yourself! What's the story with this seal?"
Hearing his companion's transmitted message, Nan Wubo's grip on the seal loosened slightly, and he took a deep breath. However, his eyes, now slightly reddened, clearly still indicated his inner turmoil.
"Tongli, this object is indeed the personal seal of my third junior brother, bestowed by our master Elder Bailin. I thought I would never see it again in my lifetime, hence my earlier excitement."
Nan Wubo transmitted a message to the bearded muscular man explaining briefly and then looked up at the small Taoist outside the Golden Spiritual Power Shield.
Clearly, he was waiting for an answer to his previous question.
And capturing the transmission between the two, plus seeing their still unsettled expressions, Jin Xu reckoned that winning their trust was highly likely, almost certain.
"Gentlemen, I apologize for earlier offenses. This object was given to me by Elder Yan Chu of Qingmu Academy because Ying Sanzhang Taoist knew I was coming to this small world, and since you, Nan Taoist, were also likely to be in this small world. It was specifically entrusted to me to confirm my identity. As for why I am here, I mentioned it when we first met, but..."
The small Taoist spoke while dispersing the golden Thunder Arc from his right palm, then briefly reiterated the scenes he had accidentally discovered in the Spirit Realm and his purpose of searching for his master to the two men.
After hearing Jin Xu's narration, Nan Wubo had not yet spoken.
The bearded muscular man, with undisguised suspicion on his face, then said.
"Since you had this item, why didn't you present it earlier? Also, since you said you accidentally found out about us being stranded in this small world, why didn't you bring a personal item of my relatives or friends?"
"Bring it out earlier?"
"If I had brought it out earlier, how would I have heard the transmission you two had just now within the diamond-shaped object?
Of course, Jin Xu definitely couldn't say that.
"Ahem, if I remember correctly, your name should be Tongli. Your original form is a Thunder Bear Stone that attained cultivation, and your cultivation had reached the Eighth Layer of the Nascent Soul Realm when you were in the Nine Provinces Realm.
"However, due to your reclusive nature and poor social skills, along with not having a family in Nine Provinces, I couldn't find any personal items of your kin.
"As for why I didn't bring it out earlier, it's because the moment we met, you launched an attack on me and then fled. I wanted to show it, but I needed an opportunity to do so."
The Taoist spoke, spreading his hands, a wry smile hanging on his face.
Upon hearing this, the bearded burly man flashed a hint of embarrassment in his eyes. He scratched his head honestly, opened his mouth and then closed it, before transmitting a message to consult with Nan Wubo beside him.
"Elder Nan, those things can transform into anything. How credible do you think this person's words are?"
After hearing this, Nan Wubo looked at the familiar yet strange brown stone seal in his palm, then gently stroked the Golden Spiritual Power Shield with his hand before responding.
"Although those things can transform into anything, they need to have seen it and obtained memories to do so. Our names and cultivation levels are easy to acquire, given that so many Taoists from Nine Provinces were captured by them.
"But this personal seal of my third junior brother, none of the Taoists who fell into this world back then were aware of it.
"And, even though those things can transform into anything and even mimic various terrifying auras, once they are attacked and damaged, they will reveal their true forms. Sense this Golden Spiritual Power Shield in front of you. Those beings that just wildly hack with law weapons, could they possibly replicate a shield of this strength?"
"So... Elder Nan, are you leaning towards believing what he said? Yet law weapons can only be destroyed by other law weapons, and those arrows we shot earlier..."
The bearded burly man said while touching the Golden Spiritual Power Shield in front of him, his tiger eyes suddenly widening.
"No rush, let's talk a bit more and see how things unfold. We are a few of the remaining Taoists from the Nine Provinces in this Small World. We must be extremely cautious."
"Moreover, Elder Tianxing, during the time he was with us, never once mentioned having a disciple."
However, while Nan Wubo wanted to probe further, Jin Xu was no longer in the mood to continue the maneuver.
If it weren't for the fact that his Spiritual Sense still hadn't located his master's whereabouts, he wouldn't be spending so much effort gathering intelligence here.
Now, through the transmission between the two people in the shield just now, he learned that the object could transform into various things, even auras, and also discovered that the other party still didn't quite trust him.
So...
"Gentlemen, my master is currently missing, and since you're unwilling to believe my identity, I won't insist. However, could you inform me about my master's whereabouts? Also, some information about the natives of this realm.
"After all, if I were your enemy, telling me this information wouldn't be a loss for you, right?"
These words from the Taoist made Nan Wubo and the bearded man startle.
The two exchanged glances, and then one of them spoke up.
"You make a fair point. There's no harm in telling you these things..."
