Chapter 74: First Day of cultural festival
Liora continues working on the flower bed with her [Gardening] skill, and I start on my sculpture. The material is unknown, and I have no idea how it feels to carve, so I'll just play around with about five million yen's worth of it… No, wait, my bad habits are starting to show.

I've made good money before.
However, I also lost it all to work-related expenses… A foolish pattern, in hindsight. Just like the saying goes, even a master carpenter can make mistakes. But it's those very mistakes that make the tools, materials, environment, and subjects worth not compromising on—well, never mind that.
I begin chiseling away at the mysterious material.
"I'm not quite satisfied with my work so far. Should I use [Divine Manifestation] here? But this event has limited uses… I can probably only use it once, given the level cap of 10 and the [Soul Pain] debuff. I don't even know what this material is made of… I bought it from a witch. I just couldn't resist the temptation of an unknown material. I wish I could incorporate more of its properties."
As I blow up the material with some explosives from my [Item Box], a little girl looks down at us from the third-floor window.
She has snow-white hair and blood-red eyes—a stunning beauty.
She's probably even younger than Liora—a genuine little girl.
With beauty that seems to color the night sky like the moon. Even though she's just a child, there's an odd sense of allure about her.
What I feel is a faint chill.
"What are you doing there, you black one?"
"Who is that?"
My voice doesn't reach the other NPCs.
Liora stopped her work and glared at the little girl on the third floor. Being called "the black one" must have triggered her. Liora's glare is terrifying.
But the little girl doesn't seem to care.
She leans out of the window, her face expressionless.
"Hey, you, the black one. You're a spirit, right? Spirits can make contracts with the residents here, right? Kill that child and make a contract with me. I'll give you half the world."
"God is not a spirit. The world already belongs to God."
"The strange little girl hates me now. Heh—"
Before the beautiful little girl could say anything else, a handsome, black-haired elf youth barged in.
He wore a student cap pulled low over his eyes, and his outfit was a school uniform. It's a rare sight in the real world nowadays, but in a fantasy game, it stands out even more.
"—You can't do that, Princess! We're here to have fun this time. Since we've been invited, we should take it easy. It'll be a hassle if we get caught."
"Killing them would be fine, right? I'm starving."
"Alright, alright! I know a food stall that serves great food. Let's go."
"I want tender, young girl meat."
"That one's dangerous. She'll kill you, just like that one time someone else got killed."
"Huh?"
"Yeah, yeah. I know you're excited since it's been hundreds of years since you woke up. But leave this to me, okay, Princess? And if you're going to do it, target someone other than the black group."
The little girl pouted, but she followed the youth.
What a strange pair of NPCs.
My "Appraisal" skill was blocked.
Well, my skill level is low, so it's not surprising. She must be quite skilled despite her age, or she has some unique skills or items.
Liora had already lost interest and returned to her gardening.
I'll return to blowing up the materials too. Once that's done, I'll try freezing them, burning them, and experimenting with various methods.
Now, I wonder what kind of color this mysterious mineral will reveal?
Discovering, guiding, and nurturing the potential of raw materials—that's the essence of art, and it's always thrilling. The cultural festival has finally begun.
This time, it's a laid-back event focused on production professions. Everyone seems to be having fun walking around in the distributed school uniforms, gym clothes, and perhaps tricked into wearing school swimsuits.
These distributed outfits have the "skin system" applied.
When worn over regular equipment, it only changes the appearance while maintaining the original equipment's abilities.
On this festival island, there's a large school on the vast grounds. You can enjoy various events being held inside the school. Liora is dressed in a classic sailor uniform, while I have placed a student cap on my dark spirit form.
Liora looks adorable.
I took several screenshots, having her twirl around for me.
Though I don't visit theme parks, dressing up is a must for events like these, isn't it?
Such things are often scoffed at, but people who enjoy themselves tend to be better at living life. I wouldn't wear costumes in real life, though.
I remember the time when I was forced to wear a maid outfit for a company project. The humiliation nearly overwhelmed me. I never want to experience that again. The problem was that they mistakenly believed I had a weakness for tears and groveling.
As we walk through the school, there are many events hosted by each class.
There's a maid café, a haunted house, and even club (clan) exhibitions.
Liora visits every food stall that catches her eye. Of course, she can't eat everything, and we can't contribute too much to groups outside of our black faction.
For now, we decided to enter the maid café.
Elves dressed as maids greeted us.
It's quite something.
These incredibly beautiful figures, rarely seen in real life, are wearing oddly cheap, overly stylized maid outfits. In a world where real maids exist, the decision to wear modern Japanese-style maid outfits feels delightfully improper.
The glimpse of their white thighs peeking from the mini skirts is dazzling.
"Welcome, my lady. Here is the menu. The spell to make your food delicious is free."
"Spell to make it... delicious? Amazing. What skill is it?"
"It's not a skill, but..."
"I know. Some information should remain secret. You don't have to say anything," Liora misunderstood, shaking her head from side to side. She immediately looked down at the menu and stared at it silently.
Normally, Liora would just say, "I'll take everything."
But this time, that's not an option. So I suggested a few items for her.
"Liora, repeat after me: omelette rice, 100% apple juice, squid rings."
"Omelette rice, 100% apple juice, squid rings."
"Understood, my lady! Please wait a moment."
"Okay. I'm excited."
Liora happily swayed her head from side to side.
I, for the moment, am pretending not to exist. In real life, I'm somewhat well-known, and too many people try to talk to me.
It's exhausting to deal with them.
That's why I'm staying hidden. Only Liora can tell whether or not I'm controlling the avatar.
Before long, the omelette rice arrived.
"What's this?"
"It's an egg dish. The eggs were summoned using a skill by the spirits, and they're quite special. The freshness is different."
"Amazing."
Liora happily picked up her spoon.
Just before she was about to scoop up the omelette rice, the maid elf took out a bottle of ketchup. Liora's hand paused.
"Now, let me draw a heart for you. *Oishikunare, kyun kyun, nyan!*"
"?"
"It's a spell to make the food delicious."
"That's amazing..."
Liora started eating the completed omelette rice.
To be frank, it tasted like amateur cooking. No matter how delicious Japanese eggs are, Liora has tasted the food of first-rate chefs.
It seems it wasn't as tasty as she expected.
However, Liora is the type of person who finds anything delicious. With graceful movements, she finished the omelette rice in no time.
Next, she ate the squid rings.
The freshly fried squid made a crisp sound.
She liked them much more, as they were quite tasty and unique. The apple juice was also of a quality not found in this fantasy world.
She drank it all in one go.
The waiting maid elf spoke.
"How about a cheki with your meal?"
"Cheki? What's that?"
"It's a photo. It's an item that spirits summoned using their skills."
The elf pulled out an instant camera from the pouch at her waist. The fantasy world was slowly being invaded by modern technology.
I didn't think Liora would want to take a photo, though.
She didn't seem to understand what a photo even was.
"Liora, a photo is like a picture that's made instantly. It allows you to preserve the current scene."
"...Is it some kind of memory-altering magic?"
"It's not a crazy spell."
I'm somewhat decent at photography. Although I can create greater works by drawing myself, photography has its own appeal.
Unlike drawing, it has limitations, but finding creativity within those limitations is quite rewarding.
In some ways, it requires more artistic sense than drawing.
"Let's take one photo, shall we?"
"Yes, let's take one."
"Alright, say peace!"
The maid elf leaned in close and took a selfie with Liora. Above Liora's head, my own figure was also present.
The instant camera produced the photo.
Liora, who had been staring at it with a startled expression, eventually took the photo and began trembling with excitement.
"G-God is there… with me! It's me and God!"
"Yes, that's what a photo is."
"A photo... I want more! I don't need this elf in it, though."
"...I'll buy you a camera later."
The maid elf looked a bit sad.
I felt bad, so I left a generous tip. The food wasn't that great, but the price was reasonable.
