Void Spawn - A litrpg adventure fantasy

CH187-Mother beast

The ringing of steel and the stench of blood tore through the air, hooks and harpoons flying overhead, ripping through all manner of beast it gets its claws upon.

Water splashed violently, forming abrupt rainbows as Samael rushed his way towards the edge of the railings, his blade in hand.

The tips of his fingers glowed with purple lines as Samael rained down Void fire upon the scaled beasts, blowing chunks of them to pieces, their flying carcasses slowly disintegrating.

Ajax stood watching, eyes peeled for whatever gets close.

The enemy's advance remained sharp. The faint groans of the men below them shook the ship for every paddle they did.

Without wind, their only method was to rely purely on manpower to steer the ship forward. 80% of their men had already been shifted below, in the safety of the steel hull, while the rest were left to fight, led by Aldo himself.

The captain steered the ship with masterful grace, choosing the best paths with the least resistance to avoid getting circled.

Unfortunately, that would not last long.

With the sheer overwhelming number of abominations, they soon appeared ahead, attempting to intercept the Wailing Maria.

"Enemy's ahead!" The sailor atop the mast roared, scope in his hand as he violently rang the bells.

Samael's head snapped towards the front, feet bursting with purple energy as his figure vanished to a blur, appearing before the beautiful sculpture of a tearful woman holding a sword pointed ahead.

Slamming both his hands together, a violent but focused burst of Void matter shot out his hand, ripping through the horde of abominations blocking their path.

Elyria suppressed the intense amounts of notifications as the kill count blew through the roof, raising Samael's proficiency higher and higher.

The captain watched in awe, mouth agape, as the stream of purple bisected all the creatures it touched. He had no doubt that if that struck the Wailing Maria, the ship would have been torn in half.

Gritting his teeth, the captain shook his head, his body tilting as he put his weight behind every steer, forcing the ship to turn and manoeuvre.

The men could feel the groaning of metal and the creaking of wood beneath it as the ship tossed and turned, causing some to stumble.

Ajax remained steadfast as he watched the approaching horde grow close. Unsheathing two blades, he locked his gaze upon the first wave.

Black tendrils of shadows extended from his back as his feet left the ground, his armoured-clad figure floating with the help of his shadow.

Pushing forward, he sliced and cleaved through the beasts climbing slowly, cracking and tossing them back into the ocean waters before they could even make it halfway.

The men themselves roared battle cries, the upper skin of their hands slowly chipping under the intense pressure they put on their triggers.

Samael's jaw clenched as he sent Void Raven flying, the axe circling around the ship and gutting a line through the enemy flanking them.

He could sense the ecstasy of the weapon as it greedily drank blood.

Unfortunately, their first hurdle came soon.

Samael's body flinched as he shot a sharp gaze east, recalling his blade fast as he stood above the railings.

A saint-level beast.

Shifting his gaze to the men, he roared. "A SAINT IS COMING! PREPARE FOR IMPACT!"

The sailors exchanged glances as they grabbed on to the slippery surface of the Wailing Maria.

Within seconds, the ship violently rocked, the waves growing violent as large tentacles sprouted from the waters, slowly gripping the various parts of the ship.

The sailors grunts echoed as the ship slowly came to a halt, the men below struggling to push their paddles forward.

Samael's figure boomed across the ship's length, grabbing his weapon midair as he cast in an ancient tongue.

"Void Cleave."

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

A black, imperceptible wave of Void matter severed the limb in two, causing the abomination to wail as the ship itself trembled.

The limb, still smoking, slowly retracted down, but its ferocity only grew stronger as the other limbs slowly tightened, causing metal to creak and bend.

"The ship!" The captain roared.

Ajax burst forth, hacking and slicing away the other parts, while Samael dashed through the wet ground, casting Dome Cleave that sent the beast spiralling down.

Unable to sustain the damage further, the creature surfaced, sending a massive explosion of water in the air, turning it to a makeshift rain.

A giant octopus-like creature hovered over the Wailing Maria, energy gathering on its large, jagged mouth.

A subzone? Samael's gaze sharpened as he clasped his hand together, forming a violent black orb.

"Subzone."

"Dying Light."

The entire sea froze for a moment as the two subzones collided, causing a brief rip in the air that sounded like steel tearing.

The shockwave blasted the waters back, causing the nearby abominations to be turned to nothing but dust by the intense impact.

Ajax braced as he shielded the sailors from the effects of the zone, his armour creaking under the violent pressure.

Unfortunately, the abomination stood no chance.

The sea of darkness consumed the violent waves caused by the octopus, clawing at it like a hungry, rabid dog before consuming the beast itself.

Within seconds, the battle ended as what was left was nothing but a fading black ash that swirled in the air.

A faint hum resonated in the air as Samael pulled his Subzone back, allowing the sailors to finally breathe again.

Shifting his gaze ahead, Samael felt the abominations retreat for now, leaving his radar one after the other.

Yet, he knew this was coordinated.

It was measuring them. Measuring him.

Watching the creatures leave, the sailors erupted in cheers, rocking the boat with their stomps and screams.

The captain shook his head, a sigh escaping his lips. "You barnacles! Get back to your post and get the Wailing Maria moving!"

The men snapped out of their cheers shortly, the thudding of their boots echoing in the air as they went back to positions.

Some of the crew went to fix the sides of the boat, replacing the torn steel armour with new metal sheets.

Samael sheathed Void Raven back as he stood over the railings, watching the distant blue ocean with a sense of dread rising in his guts.

They were safe... for now.

The sailors rested for a bit. They had to keep changing shifts so that everyone got to rest. It was a little burdening. Samael had gotten so used to living and fighting alongside other echoes that the perils of normal men tired him.

"I apologise, watchers. My men are nothing but normal." The captain scratched his beard.

"No, no, it's okay," Samael waved it off. "It is unavoidable."

"How long till we're close to the next checkpoint?" Ajax asked, his monotonous voice bouncing off his steel helmet.

"In about another hour, sire." The captain turned to glance towards his map, a compass clattering near the desk beside his steer.

The two gave the man a nod when Samael felt a pit in his gut. A nagging sensation that kept knocking at the back of his skull.

Samael rose to his feet, Void Raven leaving his dragon horde. "We have hostiles."

Ajax and the captain's head jerked towards him. The old sailor's eyes bolted wide as he yanked the rope beside him, the blaring noise of steel clashing against steel rocking the ship awake.

All the men flinched as they ran to their spots, pointing the loaded harpoons far into the waters.

Samael expanded his Void compass, searching for the enemy only to sense something far worse heading their way.

Samael's eyes bolted open, his hand shooting up as a massive void aegis formed.

A violent energy beam struck the Void aegis hard, rocking the ship and pushing Samael back, his boots grinding the steel floor. The Wailing Maria tilted hard; if it weren't for its ergonomic build, the ship would have toppled over.

Screams and panic soon gripped the people hard. Their harpoons were firing at random as Samael felt hundreds, if not thousands, of abominations fill his senses.

Ajax himself sped up, decimating the enemies already crawling up the steel hull.

But Samael's attention was not focused on the abominations but something else larger.

His jaw tensed as his gaze narrowed to a sharp glare, eyes locked on a creature lurking far, steadily pushing closer, another beam gathering in its mouth.

The same beam the leviathan cub used before, yet larger.

"LEVIATHAN!" Samael roared as he deployed 3 void aegis, layering them one after the other.

A blinding flash devoured the entire ocean for the fraction of a second, deafening everyone and taking their sights as Samael braced for impact.

A reckoning boom shook the blue seas, throwing their ship backsliding as though skipping a stone over water.

Samael's void aegis rapidly shattered; the last remaining barrier cracked and fragmented as he sustained it with all his might.

Once the light had gone, what was left were the dangerous afterwaves that hammered the ship, denting their metal carapace.

Samael's hand dropped down, his forearms steaming black smoke, blisters forming on his cracked Void skin.

A hiss escaped his lips as he watched the clouds above them form, the first droplets of rain hitting his pale cheeks.

That same familiar rain.

Samael couldn't help but remember his thoughts then.

They were just playing god now.

Yet...

Samael's eyes burnt with fury and determination, his innate will, the indomitable fighting spirit, roaring for the battle ahead of him.

He feels he could challenge a deity.

A violent killing intent and astral pressure left the man's body, pushing back the crashing waves and halting the advance of the abominations below them.

Fear and dread ate through every creature's heart except for one.

The leviathan.

A titanic, deep roar shook the blue, dead ocean, sending ripples and shockwaves that even they felt at this distance.

The captain could only curse under his breath as he roared at his men to push harder. However, the violent waves kept them stuck in place.

But not for long.

Ajax appeared at the bottom of the ship, his tendrils grasping the steel paddles as he pushed hard with enough force to break bones.

The sailors barely avoided a stumble as the ship burst forward, causing ammunition and crates to slide out of control.

"BRACE!" Aldo roared, his face pale and wet from the violent, sudden storm.

Samael's crimson gaze remained peeled ahead, challenging the authority of the enraged mother beast.

Yet, even at such moments, there was only one thing he felt.

Excitement.
