Chapter 94- Courting Death
"'I warned you... Was it telling me I warned you because it knew that I would get seriously injured from looking at the lady unto it's head? Or was it saying I warned you for an entirely different reason?"
Grey was not sure and could not find out the reason behind it. Neither could he fly back to the sky and ask the eagle. Who knew what would happen if he were to enter the presence of a divine creature.
It may not just be his spirit sea that would be ravaged by flames, but his entire body and soul would also suffer a pain akin to death.
The pain of his spirit sea burning was still fresh in his mind, and he only took one glance with his perception and enhanced eyesight due to Dragon eyes.
If he were to look at the divine in person, Grey was not sure he would even have a soul to reincarnate.
"But all in all, that was a very risky thing to do! If the purple crystal could not have suppressed the flames to that extent, I fear my entire cultivation base would have collapsed and my mind would still be razed to ashes!" Grey said with fear still in his eyes.
As he had spent two weeks recovering, his cultivation base had also increased as well. Now he was close to achieving the eigth level of Qi accumulation, while his cold yin energy was close to achieving the sixth level as well.
And when the two energies in his body reached the same level, the amount of output he could bring out would increase as well.
"This pocket dimension is a really place to cultivate yin energy." Grey then set his sights on the land above.
He had noticed that the boundless river didn't have as many sea creatures as he had thought. Maybe it was because the river was just to large and all the creatures would all be spaced out.
As Grey finally decided to move his magic ship, he was attacked by a swarm of corpse fish. The circled his ship in a swarm and emmited dense corrosive substance properties that could not be found anywhere else.
Quickly remembering that the Secret Shadow art had been stagnated due to lack of sufficient corrosive substance, he caught some of the dead fishes and used the dense corrosive substance in their bodies to progress the Secret shadow art.
Grey caught one dead corpse fish that was two meters in length and hung it over the deck. Then, sitting down cross legged directly under the fish, he entered a meditative state and guided the corrosive substance into depraved shadow.
If people knew about him intentionally absorbing corrosive substance, they would run mad. But Grey did not pay attention to this and watched as his body absorbed the corrosive substance, which was then swallowed by his shadow.
This continued as the swarm of corpse river fish attacked his magic ship, but he had activated the spirit energy barrier and their weak attacks couldn't penetrate.
In the end, they could only be picked out of the river by Grey to practice the shadow sect secret art.
Right then, as Grey was busying himself with absorbing corrosive substance, the purple crystal in his chest quaked.
Grey felt his heart skip a beat. Grey heard an illusionary voice that muttered and spoke into his ears.
'Not again...' Grey thought but the mutterings he heard did not stir his cultivation base to unravel. Neither did it cause his consciousness to burn. But Grey could hear the mutterings cleary like it had been spoken right into his ear.
But just as he wanted to hear it more clearer, he felt a sharp pain in his head that felt as if they had stabbed a sword into his head and twisted the handle violently.
Because of the reactions from the purple crystal, the divine ghostly flames in his spirit sea temporary broke through the layers of purple light and began to ravage his spirit sea once again.
A pain that he had only experienced once ravaged his senses again.
The soft and ethereal mutterings turned into loud ravings that made his eyed turn bloodshot.
"No, not again!"
The feeling of his cultivation base and consciousness burning was reflected in his mind once again, and the pain was just as harrowing as before.
Out from the ravings that nearly drove him mad, Grey heard a few words and sentences that made sense. But he could not ponder on them as he was facing extreme pain.
It was only after a while did the voices subside and the ravings ceased. Grey lay on the deck of his magic ship while panting and sweating heavily.
Unbeknownst to him, he had emmited strong energy fluctuations that scared away the corpse river fish.
But Grey did not even bother about them as his mind focused on the few words he had heard from the insufferable ravings. They went like;
"Revive... A second time... In you... Revive... Coming... Death!" With the exclamation of death, Grey nearly had a heart attack.
After a few minutes, his mental state stabilized and his cultivation base was no longer in danger. The layers of purple light had long wrapped themselves around the divine flames and restricted their area of damage.
Grey caught his breath once more. This was a full on mental attack! He could nearly not believe he endured the ravings and mutterings while his spirit sea was being ravaged by divine flames either.
"I'm I that unlucky that I have to spy on a divine existence and later on endure that crazy mumuring that can drive me mad! Does the murmuring have to do with something the divine flames in my spirit sea?" Grey entered into deep thought.
"The Nascent Soul Transformation expert said that the level of cultivators in this small world can't exceed the Foundation establishment realm, if not they will be expelled by the small world. But why is there such an existence of the divine level flying in the sky between the everlasting continent and the boundless river? Can it defy the rules of the small world and enter anyways, or is there some other explanation?"
"Let me not also forget about the broken words I heard in between the murmurings. Who is going to revive a second time? Who is coming? And why is death involved?"
Grey thought long and hard about those questions, but no answers were coming forth. He could only conclude that the purple crystal was an item that held extreme importance and danger.
When he broke through to the seventh level of Qi accumulation and was forming his spirit sea, it formed a purple moon on its own that gave a very suppressive and mysterious aura.
Although the purple crystal was a foreign object, since day one it had been with him and he had grown used to it's existence. It once helped him to capture the aura of the dark gold figure that came out of the boulder, and that in turn made my comprehension of the sword art leap.
Not only that, mixing the suppressive force of the purple crystal and his abnormal shadow acted as a deterrence to most bizarre existence.
Although he didn't know the reason, he was very grateful for it's help. Grey didn't want to throw the purple crystal away because it was dangerous and could potentially bring harm to him.
'If the matter with the ravings and mutterings cannot be concluded before I enter Foundation establishment, I will have to take further thoughts about the purple crystal!'
After making that statement, Grey stood up and went to the bow of his magic ship. The cold wind assaulted his figure and fluttered his robes, it also shook the hems of the mysterious cloak, but Grey's expression was forever nonchalant.
"So far i have been passive for the entire three weeks I've been here. The world may expell we foreign cultivators anytime soon and I have not achieved anything." Grey's voice was calm and cold, but not as cold as the chilling breeze and ice cold waters.
As if hesitating, he swept his entire perception into the boundless river in all directions. Various sea creatures appeared in his sight. Some deep dwelling creatures immediately locked unto him when his perception entered their territory.
But as soon as he released the layers of seals the purple crystal used to restrict the white divine flames, they quickly took away their gazes and did not bother his arrogant sweeping through their territory.
Enduring the agonizing pain of his spirit sea being burnt by the flames, Grey quickly found some creatures that he could extract the corrosive substance and the cold yin energy from their bodies.
After locking unto them, he waved his hand and dove into the chilling cold waters. With a goal set in mind, Grey accelerated while in the water, he dispersed poison to prevent other creatures from disturbing him.
When the creatures he had locked unto sensed his coming, they tried to flee but Grey and already expected that and stuck a flight talisman to his body.
After that, he repeated Forbidden Stream and made the energies within their bodies chaotic. The Sinister Dead eel that was reeling backwards in pain kept swinging it's tail violently in a bid to escape from Grey, but a bright red fish with crimson scales and fiery eyed bit into the eel and stopped it's escape.
Grey paused his actions when he saw that. He readied another Forbidden Stream which he found out was very effective against sea creatures.
But the red fish did not steal his kill, instead it dragged the struggling eel to Grey's side. Grey looked at the eel with apprehension before leaving soon after.
The red fish looked at Grey's retreating figure and followed. When Grey saw that the red fish was following him, his first thought was to kill it. But after some decision, he decided to immobilize the fish and leave.
Sending a large wave of Forbidden Stream outward, Grey watched at the Red fish tried it's best to avoid the cold stream, but was ultimately hit by it.
But what it did next surprised Grey! The red fish suddenly turned ablaze with red flames that turned the surroundings waters warm in an instant.
The cold wave of energy was dispelled as the core of the attack was cold. The heat from the red fish quickly dissolved the entire attack.
Grey looked at this, stunned. The red fish expressed its displeasure by staring long and hard at Grey before swimming to his side with a comfortable expression.
Comfortable?
Yes, the red fish had a comfortable expression on it's face. It looked at Grey with a sort of proud look.
"Am I seeing things! This fish is a very weird fish." In slight surprise by the red fish's intelligence and it's flame powers, Grey left for the next sea creature he had marked.
The red fish followed after him.
