Big Announcement
The bad news first.
After the last two weeks of profoundly slow relative updates, there's going to keep being Stuff in the way of fresh things. Not bad stuff per se or deeply, but some pacing stuff for sure. Simply put, I have a plan:
I've delayed long enough. I've procrastinated and feared and held myself back away from a few things, and it's time to end that. Better to try and to push forward ahead, even if it means stumbling on the way.
RfR needs to go to Kindle publication. I need the money, I want the audience, and I want to push myself into this new arena, to take this step forward and upward, even if it's scary and troubling in ways. I've watched almost every author I've started alongside here on RR move to this new arena and take this step, and I'm starting to feel like I've got delayed puberty in the middle of high school, nevermind all my other, less metaphorical reasons for needing and wanting to do this. I've got like 8+ books worth of content just sitting here, and as much as I care about you all and want to keep it totally available, something has to change, because balancing on a sharp edge still cuts you, even if you haven't fallen yet.
The bad news in summary, then. RfR will be going on Hiatus for a week or two as I get some work done on rewrites and edits for book one. VISCERAE, which I love so severely, will remain on hiatus for that time.
The good news:
For RfR:
There will be five new chapters coming this week. By this week, I mean (if I can manage it) by this upcoming Sunday (i.e. this time-ish tomorrow). Brand spanking new, juicy as all get out, etc. That's the most basic of the good news.
Good news part two: I will be posting continuous updates on the edited chapters, same as before, as well as my notes for changes and whole new chapters to improve pacing, worldbuilding, and character beats. Book one will thus be longer than arc one, for example.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Good news part three: RfR, in its entirety, will always be available in pdf format over on Patreon. And if it isn't, then I dunno, ask me about it, or maybe I'll post something here (wink wink nudge nudge legal considerations).
Good news part 4- progress towards Kindle. More ephemeral, but hey, having financial stability and more peeps ain't a bad possibility, and will likely help out a Lot.
Silvertongue
Now for VISCERAE
Obviously, bad news is longer hiatus, as mentioned. I know most people here don't read it, but big update, big news, big infos.
However. To be deeply, entirely clear: I will not be stopping VISCERAE.
It brings me too much joy, engagement, and free space away from RfR and other things for me to give it up. I've committed, and I will not retreat from that commitment, even if it was poorly timed originally. Its results are just too good to give up, including the work itself. But I need the time and the focus, so at least for the next little while, the last chapter will be the current chapter.
Now I may still post smaller things and lesser updates over on that end of things, but I love VISCERAE. It is so much fun to write- and yet so dramatically different that it's hard to keep up with it while doing RfR as well. So taking the time to work on RfR's professional journey and "higher realm" shit means that we will, eventually, get more space and time to work on VISCERAE, like beta readers and editors (for both stories, ideally). This is not abandonment, and it is not neglect, but it is taking a step back from constant output, which includes constantly stressing about not producing and juggling VISCERAE.
In short: longer break, less updates, and an absolute ironclad commitment and dedication to keeping it alive and continuing it further as my next big project. This is not months off, but it might well be weeks.
To those in the Fleshling tier- the patreon will remain up, we're still a good few chapters ahead, but I encourage you to switch tiers if you can, as I don't want to hurt you or have this be a burden while I don't produce as much. Love you all very much, and the further updates of VISCERAE will remain on Patreon and not Royal Road for now, but still. I will continue creating this work that has brought me so much and that you all have chosen to support and love, but I don't want you to feel cheated. I'll be back to Ilia's journey and the town of Hollow Springs sooner than later... but not right now. Soon, though. There's cocoon-time shit to deal with first.
