Chapter 9 - The VIP System (2)
Leo immediately looked for the receive button but found an Open gift instead. He tapped the button eagerly, anticipation making his heart race. A message box appeared, and notifications started to show one after the other.
Opening God's gift.
You have received Otherworldly treasure chest!
The message box's text changed.
Otherworldly treasure chest activated!
Please select anything on the list that you want to transfer.
"Transfer?" he muttered, uncertain what it meant until he looked at the presented list. He flickered through the list spotting different things.
Physical features
Physical strength
Status
The list seemed endless. Something clicked in his mind. He meticulously scanned the items on the list. "Please be here, please be here," he muttered under his breath.
His eyes widened, and he almost passed out when he saw what he was looking for.
All assets
"If this is what I think it is, I can start investing in something right off the bat!" he exclaimed, his breath starting to slow down as he tapped the item. Another message box appeared.
All assets will be converted into this world's currency, do you want to continue?
He nearly jumped with excitement as his assumption was confirmed. He immediately tapped "Okay" and watched closely as the system started its process.
Starting assets transfer, please wait...
The screen displayed a progress bar that inched forward slowly. Leo's mind raced with possibilities. If all his assets from his previous life were converted into this world's currency, he would have a significant advantage. He could invest in better equipment, secure a safe and comfortable living for himself and Amanda and even start building a network of contacts and allies.
As the transfer continued, Leo's thoughts drifted to his past life. He remembered the countless hours he spent working, saving, and investing. All the sacrifices he made in the hopes of securing a better future. The irony was not lost on him—those very sacrifices were now about to give him a head start in a completely different world.
The progress bar almost reached its end, and Leo found himself pacing the small room, the wooden floor creaking beneath his feet. The anticipation was almost unbearable.
Assets transfer completed!
Leo quickly tapped "Okay."
Total assets value is 100 million pesos.
"Oh," he muttered, a bit surprised. Even as Eman, he never knew exactly how much money he had. "As long as they are profitable," he always told himself. He then tapped "Convert and receive assets value".
1,000,000,000 gold coins received.
"One billion gold coins, huh?" The number was staggering. He had gone from a humble farmhand to a man of unimaginable wealth in seconds. But wealth, as much as it could build, could also destroy.
He returned to the table, his mind racing. As soon as he sat down, he realized the enormity of the amount. "No, no, no," he whispered, shaking his head. He checked the window again, heart pounding as the zeroes seemed to stretch on endlessly.
By the time he reached the ninth digit, his mind whirled, the enormity of it all crashing down. "Nine!" he exclaimed, jumping to his feet. His chair clattered to the floor from his sudden movement.
"No way! So one peso is a thousand silver coins?!" He remembered a conversation with Amanda. He had told her he would buy them land in the capital one day. Amanda had laughed sweetly, her laughter a melodic sound that seemed to dance in the air. She had placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Thank you, Leo," she had said, her voice filled with warmth. "That's so sweet of you. But the cheapest house in the capital is at least a thousand gold coins. And a gold coin is about a thousand silver coins."
He picked up his chair and sat back down, resting his head against the backrest, his arms dropping limply to his sides. The thought of surprising Amanda filled him with warmth, but the weight of responsibility bore down just as quickly. A billion gold coins could reshape their lives—but it could also upend the delicate balance they’d worked so hard to build.
Then he remembered that he could use gold coins for the Share the Pain perk.
He stood up, heart pounding, and selected Amanda from the target list. He dragged the slider to 100 years and tapped "Activate using gold coins." Another message box appeared.
You are about to use 10,000,000 gold coins to raise the success rate to 100%. Do you want to continue?
He tapped "Yes".
Syncing 100 years for about 60 seconds. Please secure your location before proceeding.
Leo fixed his chair, the wooden floor creaking beneath his feet. His hands trembled, a quiet dread building in his chest. Syncing 100 years of Amanda’s life wasn’t just an act of love—it was an act of trust. What if, in sharing her pain, he uncovered something too dark to bear? Could their bond survive that?
The air around him seemed to thicken with anticipation. The room was quiet except for the faint hum of the morning, a gentle reminder of the life he shared with Amanda.
Through the open window, Leo saw her moving through the fields, her hands deftly tending to the crops. The sun kissed her skin, her movements graceful but tired. She had always been the strong one, the caretaker. But now, with a billion gold coins and the power of the VIP system, Leo could finally be the one to protect her.
The rhythmic hum of insects, the rustle of leaves, and the distant calls of birds created a symphony of farm life that drifted through the open window. It was a melody that was both soothing and invigorating, a testament to the life they had built together. Leo stood by the window, his gaze fixed on Amanda.
His mind raced with thoughts of her sacrifices, her strength, and her unwavering support.
Each memory was a vivid tableau: Amanda working late into the night, her face illuminated by the soft glow of a lantern; her laughter, a melodic sound that seemed to dance in the air; her gentle touch as she bandaged his scraped knee, her soothing words easing his fears.
His heart swelled with determination and gratitude. This was his chance to repay her in a way that truly mattered. With a final deep breath, he reached out and tapped "Proceed". The screen flickered, and a timer appeared, its numbers counting down with relentless precision. Leo's heart pounded in his chest, each beat echoing the ticking seconds.
Suddenly, a wave of paralysis slammed into him, locking his muscles in place as if he were caught in a vice. His vision fractured, the world shattering into a thousand swirling images. Each fragment was a piece of Amanda’s past, spinning and whirling around him, too fast to grasp, too intense to comprehend. His heart pounded against his ribcage, a primal fear clawing at the edges of his mind.
