Hell's Kitchen was trembling as the shockwave from the explosion shattered windows and doors across nearby buildings.

Even from a hundred meters away, Jason could feel the scorching heat washing over him. Standing on the roadside, he took in the spectacular sight, grinning as he shouted to the sky, "Surprise, motherfucker!"

[Ding! Mission [Karma] completed, reward: 500 evil points, progress: 1515/3000]

[Ding! 21 mafia members killed, reward: 2100 villain points, progress: 3615/3000]

[Ding! Congratulations, host has reached level 4 and earned 10 attribute points. Current progress: 615/4000]

Morgan rolled down the window, calling out, "Jason, don't forget you still owe me for the goods."

Jason pulled a Glock 20 from his waist and said, "Don't worry. I'll get the payment—and clean up the mess while I'm at it."

The remaining mafia members totaled 24, including Vladimir. With 21 already down, that meant three had slipped through.

Jason sprinted toward the warehouse door, gun in hand. One mafia thug, who'd been searching Paul and went to patrol after, stood there, dazed by the explosion. He had just gone to take a leak, and the place blew up in his absence.

Bang!

Jason fired twice, hitting the thug through the heart, then closed in and fired once more into the back of his head.

[Ding! 1 mafia member killed, gain 100 villain points, progress: 715/4000]

Jason observed the warehouse, now a blazing inferno. Rushing in headlong would be like stepping into an oven.

As sirens wailed in the distance, Jason heard coughing from within the warehouse. He quickly took cover. Soon, two battered men staggered out, supporting each other. One of them carried a blue shoulder bag.

Jason stepped out from hiding, shooting both men in the legs.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Aaah!" They screamed as they collapsed.

Jason reloaded his gun, staying alert as he approached the men. He didn't recognize the man with the bag, but the other one…

"I'd love to show all the gangs in New York what's become of the Russian mafia boss." He sneered.

Vladimir, bloodshot eyes blazing with rage, glared at him, "Jason! You devil! I'll be waiting for you in hell—"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Jason shot them both before Vladimir could finish. He always remembered the warning: villains die because they talk too much. Jason was ruthless and never wasted time with banter.

[Ding! 1 mafia member killed, gain 100 villain points, progress: 815/4000]

[Ding! Vladimir (plot character) killed, gain 500 villain points, progress: 1315/4000]

[Ding! Mission [Strike First] completed, reward: 500 villain points, progress: 1815/4000]

He opened the shoulder bag to find stacks of cash. After a quick count, he estimated about $400,000 to $500,000—more than enough to pay Morgan.

Jason made three trips to throw the bodies back into the flames, then took the cash-filled bag to the Mercedes-Benz. He handed Morgan $300,000 and kept the remaining $170,000 for Paul's family.

Although Jason was a villain, he honored his word. Even though Paul was gone, he intended to keep his promise.

"Need a ride?" Morgan asked, grinning as he counted the cash.

Jason responded, "Take me to South City."

Morgan chuckled, "So that's where your safe house is."

Jason shot him a glare, "Think I'd be stupid enough to reveal my safe house to you? You'd sell it to Kingpin in a heartbeat."

Morgan shrugged, laughing, "Can't blame a guy for trying. Smart to be cautious in our line of work."

As they drove through South City, Jason watched police cars and fire trucks zoom by. The recent chaos had all of Manhattan's law enforcement mobilized, from the apartment bombing to the warehouse explosion, shaking up the entire city.

Jason got out in an alley and made his way to Paul's apartment. With the cash ready, he climbed to the fifth floor and knocked on the door.

Lisa, Paul's wife, had been on edge ever since Paul left, unable to sleep. Hearing the knock, she sat up, hoping it was him. But as she looked through the peephole, there was no one there—only a black shoulder bag on the ground.

_

Jason returned to his South City safe house and crashed on the sofa, exhausted. He didn't wake until noon, and after freshening up, he sat down to review his system stats.

Reaching level 4 had granted him 10 new attribute points. Jason raised his Agility and Intelligence to 40, and used the rest to boost Strength.

He was almost ready for [Firearms Mastery 6], now just short of 100 points and about $1 million. Jason pondered his next bank heist as he munched on a piece of bread.

Noticing his reputation had almost hit 100 points, he anticipated the media frenzy surrounding the explosion would push him over the edge, enabling him to recruit his first henchman.

He checked CNN's site, smiling as he saw his name dominating the headlines.

This time, an aerial shot of the warehouse explosion adorned the homepage, showing a dramatic contrast of dark buildings encircling a blazing inferno. Clicking on the article, he read:

'An explosion erupted last night at a gang warehouse in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan.'

'25 gang members died, dozens of residents were injured, and nearby buildings were damaged.'

'The NYPD confirmed that the deceased were members of the Russian mafia, including their leader Vladimir, a suspect in the recent apartment bombing and mall shooting. Reports indicate that Vladimir was shot, adding to the mystery.'

'The FBI has joined the investigation, forming a joint team with the NYPD to resolve the case.'

Every news site had coverage of the incident, each rehashing similar details, but Jason enjoyed reading it all. Now he understood why criminals sometimes returned to their crime scenes; admiring his handiwork felt exhilarating.

Then, a freshly posted article dampened his mood.

'The latest update: a joint investigation team has confirmed that the explosion was a premeditated attack, and Jason Walter, a missing suspect, is the prime suspect behind it.'

Jason's photo appeared alongside the article.

"What the hell!" He muttered, frowning.
