Chapter 23: chapter 23
Shouta watched as Izuku bounced with a chocolate shake in hand. Smiling behind his capture scarf, he continued to keep an eye on the boy. They were looking through stores to find things that the boy could use to decorate his room. Izuku kept saying the clothes he had were enough, but Shouta insisted that they buy at least a few more shirts and pants (that weren't cargo pants because have you seen the amount of cargo pants that boy owns? It's insane).
They were currently heading to a store Izuku said he had wanted to visit, when the kid stalled in his bouncing. The kid's eyes were locked on the fountain in the middle of the mall below them. Following the teen's gaze, Shouta saw a pudgy, green haired woman talking to a slightly taller, gaunt brunette woman.
Shouta scrutinized the green-haired woman and noticed how similar she looked to Izuku before the kid dyed his hair. Snapping out of his daze quickly, the man walked up to Izuku and gently helped him release his white-knuckled grip on the railing.
The kid looked up at him then back down at his assumed mother. Whipping around the kid closed his eyes and started to slow his breaths back to a normal pace. Shouta stood next to Izuku and continuously rubbed circles in his back.
"Can we go to the next store now? I'll be fine as long as we don't actually come across her." Izuku looked up at Shouta.
Shouta contemplated it for a minute before agreeing and proceeding to lead Izuku to the next store. He sent off a text to Tsukauchi with the woman's general location as they walked to the next store.
Izuku pushed thoughts of Inko to the back burner of his mind and looked around the store. There were a lot of pre-quirk era band shirts hanging on the racks. He distantly heard yelling from further down the mall, but ignored it in favor of looking for another ACDC shirt he could cut the sleeves off of and some sweatpants maybe.
"No more cargo pants, he says. You should get sweatpants, he says." Izuku says under his breath as he goes through the different colors of sweatpants. And then his eyes land on shorts not too far off from where he is. As he walks closer, he realizes they're cargo shorts . Shorts. Not pants. Ha! Beat that Shouta!
Walking back to Shouta, Izuku holds up the shorts for the man to see and smiles innocently.
"I said no more cargo pants kid." Shouta sighs.
"But they're not pants. See? They're shorts." Izuku quips.
"Fine, put them in the basket." Shouta says after a long minute of Izuku doing his best puppy dog eyes. Izuku places his shirts and cargo shorts in the basket offered to him and skips away.
"Problem Child." Izuku hears Shouta mutter as he skips away. Izuku giggles into his hand and continues looking around the store.
"Maybe I should get more combat boots. Leggings sound nice too!" Izuku says, nodding to himself as he navigates his way through the store, Shouta following not too far behind.
Tsukauchi looks at the woman through the glass. Shouta had messaged him with Inko Midoriya's location, so Tsukauchi had promptly sent out a couple police officers to arrest her. More like bring her in for questioning, but he hopes he'll be able to get the woman sentenced to prison, so he refers to her as being arrested.
Tsukauchi walks into the interrogation room 5 minutes after silently watching how the woman acts, and sits down at the table. He doesn't introduce himself yet, and instead keeps an eye on the woman as he pulls out files from Izuku's questioning earlier that day.
"Inko Midoriya, correct?" Tsukauchi asks.
"Yes, I am her. What am I being held for, may I ask?" Ms. Midoriya questions.
"I'm Detective Tsukacuhi Naomasa and I would like to ask you some questions about your son." Tsukauchi states, purposely leaving out what his quirk is.
"I don't have a son." Tsukauchi's eye twitches at her blatant lie.
"Ma'am, please tell the truth. Your son is Izuku Midoriya, correct?" Tsukauchi asks.
"Like I said, I don't have a son." She insists, trying to fix her hair out of her eyes when the quirk suppressant cuffs dig into her skin.
"I may have forgotten to inform you of my quirk. See, my quirk is Lie Detector, so I know if a person is lying or not, so once again, I ask you. Is Izuku Midoriya your son?" Tsukuachi says, holding back a smug smile at the way her eyes widen.
"Tch. Fine, yeah the worthless shit is my son." She sneers.
"Please refrain from using such language for the duration of the questioning." Tsukauchi says. He doesn't say interrogation because legally, it's not one.
"Whatever." She scoffs, rolling her eyes.
"Right. When was the last time you've seen your son?" Tsukauchi asks.
"I don't know, like a month ago, maybe?" She says, trying to lift her hands to her hair once again.
"Ma'am, need I remind you of my quirk?" Tsukauchi says, looking at the woman.
"Fine it was like a year ago." She said, rolling her eyes. Tsukauchi wanted to keep a tally of all the times she had rolled her eyes so far, but he held back.
"And you never thought to file a missing person's report?" Tsukauchi asks, looking at her with disgust disguised as disbelief.
"No. He's a worthless Deku. I thought he had finally gotten himself killed." She says. Tsukauchi hates how the woman talks about her son's possible death like it's the weather.
"Have you ever used your quirk on him? Accidental or otherwise?" Tsukauchi asks, keeping his face carefully blank. He watches as the woman's eyes narrow at him in suspicion.
Oh so she's caught on to things already. Tsukauchi thinks, not showing his surprise on his face.
"No! Why would I ever do that to my poor baby? I love him so much!" She pleads, fake tears rolling down her cheeks and her voice going higher in pitch. He hates how his quirk registers her ending statement as a lie.
"Ma'am. Please stop lying." Tsukauchi warns letting a small amount of the disgust he feels towards the woman lace his tone.
It works because her posture relaxes and she stares straight at him as she says, "Yeah I used it on that little twerp. Caused him a great deal of pain too. It's what he gets for ruining my life and my body."
"Have you ever tried to kill him? Using your quirk or otherwise." Tsukauchi clarifies.
"Yeah, who wouldn't? He's useless and a waste of space. He should die already." Venom laces her words and Tsukauchi stands up, clearing his throat.
"On accounts of child abuse, neglect, illegal quirk usage, illegal quirk usage on a minor, and attempted murder, Inko Midoriya you are under arrest." Tsukauchi says, letting the officers come in and take the woman away. She screams at them to get their hands off of her, but neither listen as they drag away the woman who shouldn't be called a mother. This whole station has a soft spot for their vigilante after all.
Izuku watches as Shouta talks into his phone and turns to the teen every now and then. He's watching a hero documentary with Hizashi at the moment while Shouta works on grading assignments for his class. Then Shouta turns to him.
"Inko's been arrested. Her trial is in 2 months Kiddo." Izuku stares at Shouta in shock.
"Can I get my stuff from the apartment?" Izuku asks, his brain not fully comprehending the situation.
"Sure Kiddo." Shouta says. Two calloused, but soft hands ruffle his hair. He'll work through these emotions when he's in his room alone.
