Veteran Streamer in a Reversed World

Chapter 12 - Mistake

[Interview Record/002]
-Please tell us your affiliation during the war.
-Affiliation…
-It’s enough if you can just tell us which area you were active in.
-It’s difficult to say because I didn’t stay in one particular area. You know what guerrillas do, right?
-I understand. Then could you tell us how you became a fighter for the ‘Black Wolf Group’?
-Well, it was two years ago from now. Our house was in an area occupied by the rebels.
-Were you forcibly conscripted?
-I volunteered, but it was essentially forced. My family was held hostage, and they killed anyone who refused.
-There were rumors that the Black Wolf Group made child soldiers take drugs, is that true?
-Yes.
-Have you ever experienced going into combat while under the influence?
-No. I passed the drugs allocated to me to other guys.
-Why is that?
-When you do drugs, you feel like you’re flying. You don’t even feel the fear of death.
-It was for the purpose of enhancing combat ability. Then why didn’t you take the drugs you were given?
-When you take drugs, your head doesn’t work properly. You just pull the trigger when you see a person, and you don’t even know if you’re hurt when you’re shot. For long-term survival, it was much better not to do drugs.
-Where were you during Operation Impala?
-There was a civilian who passed important information to government forces, so we were ambushing their residence. I broke down the door, went in, and shot dead a man who was resisting.
-Civilian murder.
-How can you refuse when the higher-ups order it? Besides, that man was holding an AK. If I hadn’t shot then, I would have become a beehive. Well, I’m in jail now as karma for that.
-I see. Please continue.
-After firing one more shot at the man’s corpse and while I was tying up the remaining family members, it happened. Suddenly, I heard a strange noise from outside. I looked out the window and saw something black passing overhead.
-It was a helicopter.
-That was a helicopter?
-You didn’t know?
-Of course not. It’s fortunate if you can even see properly when something dark is flying in the middle of the night without moonlight.
-I heard it was a modified aircraft for special operations, seems like its camouflage performance was quite good.
-Anyway, after alerting my comrades nearby that something had flown by, I went out to the street. There was a technical parked on the roadside. My comrades were following right behind me, leading the tied-up civilians.
-Is that where you encountered Solomon’s devil?
-Yes. After arriving in front of the technical, I realized I didn’t have the car keys. I turned around to ask my comrade for the keys. Then, except for the civilians, all my comrades were lying on the ground. They were dead with their heads blown off.
-So what did you do?
-What could I do? I ran to my dead comrade, grabbed the car keys, and started the engine right away. I left the tied-up civilians behind and fled. But I didn’t get far before crashing into a wall.
-Please explain the situation when you surrendered.
-As I was sitting stupidly on the road after escaping from the burning technical, they approached. They were wearing black uniforms and covering their faces with scary-looking masks. I thought I was going to die for sure and prepared to fight, but before I could do anything, the opponent planted their fist in my face.
-Is that the end?
-Yes. I was knocked out by one punch. When I woke up, I was already in a holding cell.
-Do you remember the appearance of the person who threw the punch?
-It was a man, and his hair was white. Ah, and his eyes were red.
-That man.
-If my memory is correct, it must be him.

“Hmm, there are more types of games than I thought?”

When I accessed the store to choose an FPS game as requested by the viewers, an unfamiliar list of games filled the monitor screen.
I had simply thought of first-person shooting games and opened the store, but in reality, the detailed classifications and genres were more diverse than expected.
There were games with a more casual feel, games that exuded a horrifying atmosphere, and games that seemed to pursue realism.
“Hmm… What would be good to play from here…”
My head became complicated as the choices suddenly increased.
-Of course, you should go for MILSIM, right?
-A war veteran playing milsim?
-How about RAID?
-Isn’t there a game with SWAT?
-That’s a bit boring though
-?
-?
-Disrespecting the fundamental game…

As I sat alone in front of the monitor lost in thought, viewers began to suggest opinions one by one.
Unfamiliar game names kept coming up in the chat window, and some viewers started debating among themselves.
-Why make a war veteran play RAID
-CQB is the fundamental game
-Is a game where special police catch criminals the same as a war game with shells exploding and tanks moving around?
-For real lol
-Info) Most battles during the 5th Middle East War were urban warfare
-RAID isn’t urban warfare, it’s building clearing, you idiots;;

“Hey, don’t fight! I’m thinking right now!”
I stepped in to defuse the situation before the chat atmosphere worsened.
-We weren’t fighting^^
-^^
-Nothing… happened…!

Fortunately, the viewers’ mood quickly lightened, and the situation didn’t worsen further.
“Anyway…”
Taking advantage of the moment when reactions calmed down, I thought about a solution to the problem I was currently facing.
I heard there’s a viewer voting system supported by the streaming platform, how about using that?
“Is this it?”
Once an idea comes up, you should act on it right away.
After fiddling with the broadcast settings for a while, I found the voting function.
“Okay, then shall we select game candidates?”
As soon as I spoke with the voting settings window displayed on the broadcast screen, passionate viewer reactions immediately appeared.
-Let’s go with milsim
-Please do RAID just once
-RAID go go
-I think milsim would be good

“Hmm, it seems the candidates are roughly divided into two.”
To get basic information, I searched the store for the two games most frequently mentioned by viewers.

First, ‘RAID’ was a game where you become a special police unit and respond to various crime scenes to subdue criminals.
There are various modes, but the common feature was high difficulty and priority on non-lethal takedowns.
On the other hand, ‘MILSIM’, true to its name, dealt with large-scale wars and was close to a war simulator.
It was a game loved by hardcore users for its hit detection by body part and realistic depiction of firearm power.
“I’ll conduct a vote with these two as candidates for now. Number 1 is RAID, number 2 is MILSIM.”
-Let’s go~
-But RAID is really too much
-MILSIM is really boring if there’s no engagement
-Just vote already lol

After roughly setting it up and making the vote public, the number of participants started to rise rapidly.
I didn’t know passion for their favorite games would be this intense.
While the viewers were voting, I moved back from the desk for a moment and did some stretching.
My neck and back were starting to feel stiff from sitting in the same position for so long.
“Oof…”
After lightly loosening up my body, I moistened my throat with water from the cup on the desk.
I feel this every time, but internet broadcasting really strains a person’s voice.
Having to constantly say something to keep the audio going was quite tiring both mentally and physically.
It’s also because my main content is storytelling, so I have to talk more.
Anyway, it seemed like I should keep some throat candy after the broadcast ends.
They say a broadcaster’s voice is their life.
After taking a short break like that, I pulled the chair back in front of the monitor and sat down.
“Well then, shall we check the results?”
-Thump thump thump thump
-Thump thump
-MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!MILSIM!
-RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!
-Stop spamming so much;;
-I believe in MILSIM
-Please do RAID just once

Amidst the tension in the chat window, my mouse cursor hovered over the button to check the vote results.
Honestly, I don’t think it matters which one gets chosen, but since tension makes the broadcast more interesting, I stalled a bit.
-Hurry hurry
-Thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump thump
-RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!RAID!
-The chat is going crazy
-I’m getting dizzy… Check quickly…

Smiling lightly at the viewers showing such passionate reactions, I clicked the mouse.
“Hehehe… Alright, here we go! The first game I’ll be broadcasting is…!”
-Voting ended-
-Winner: MILSIM

It was an overwhelming victory for MILSIM, which was candidate number 2.
“MILSIM! Let’s dive right in!”
-Ah dammit
-Damn
-This is it lol
-How dare a game with no fundamentals try to compete

I giggled looking at the chat window where joy and sorrow were divided in an instant, and clicked the game installation button.
Until this moment, I had no idea what was about to happen.
Really.
