Versatile Mage : Reborn As Mo Fan

Chapter 152: Chapter 151: Tensions Rise

The West Guard Arena was situated on the southern side, facing the ocean. It seemed to be an artificially constructed platform, suspended outward from the mountain, forming a vast diamond-shaped stage. When there were no competitions, it could even be used as a helicopter landing pad. As the group entered the arena, they saw a black helicopter flying away, heading towards the Sea Battle City.

The platform was larger than they had imagined, big enough that it could probably serve as a runway for certain aircraft.

The arena was diamond-shaped, with three corners exposed to the high altitude, around seven or eight hundred meters above the ground. There were no railings, just an invisible barrier. The arena wasn't thick, looking more like a thin slab. It was supported by stone structures extending out from the mountain beneath it.

This wide yet thin battlefield would easily be destroyed by the power of magic if the surface material wasn't sturdy enough. However, the fact that they arranged the arena here suggested that it could withstand the intensity of combat.

Noticing their gaze, one of the female Sakura Academy students, who had been verbally defeated by Jiang Shaoxu earlier, spoke up, explaining that the ground of the arena could handle any magic. However, Jiang Shaoxu quickly shut her down, retorting, "We're not here to break rocks."

"Take your time and decide," said Fujikata Nobuko, the Sakura Academy instructor, once they reached the arena.

Ai Jiangtu gathered his group and was about to discuss who would participate, but seeing that Mo Fan, Guan Yu, and Jiang Shaoxu were already prepared, he simply said, "We've made our decision. These three will take part in the duel."

Of course, the three were Mo Fan, Guan Yu, and Jiang Shaoxu, as they had already clashed with some of the Sakura Academy students.

"We agreed earlier at the banquet—five of your people should face five of ours in individual duels. Can't you count?" the blond-haired Okamoto Sou interrupted.

Before Ai Jiangtu could respond, Mo Fan retorted, "As Jiang Shaoxu said earlier, if we win three matches, that's all that matters. Do you think we'll need two more?"

Mo Fan's confidence was evident, much like how Chiyou had acted arrogantly when they first arrived.

A senior member of the Sakura Academy, clearly displeased, frowned and asked angrily, "So, you're only sending three people?"

"Can you count?" Mo Fan mocked with a smile.

The elder ground his teeth, furious. If he were younger, he might have jumped into the arena himself!

The atmosphere between the two sides became immediately tense, but it was up to the students to settle things in the end. The adults could only glare at each other angrily.

Chiharu sat behind the other nine students, likely serving as the leader of the national team. Further back were Meiken, the Sakura Academy authorities, and Fujikata Nobuko, along with other instructors and leaders of the Western Guard. Near them sat some local dignitaries, though they were less significant.

These national duels were not open to the public, so only a few witnesses were allowed. Cameras and recording devices were also prohibited to prevent other countries from gaining an early understanding of the national team's tactics. Of course, it was impossible to hide everything, but there would still be some surprises for the Venice competition.

Unfortunately, there's always a way for certain "dogs" to snoop around.

Guan Yu was the first to enter the arena, facing an opponent who had a similar hairstyle to Zhao Manyan.

Both of them were wind mages, making the duel relatively uninteresting. Guan Yu struggled, nearly losing to the national team member.

Guan Yu was eventually helped down by Jiang Yu, while Nanrong Ni checked his injuries.

"Several bones are broken. You need to stay still," Nanrong Ni diagnosed with a wave of her hand over Guan Yu.

"That bad?" Jiang Yu asked, surprised.

"Humph, I almost hit his weak spot. That guy's definitely worse off than me!" Guan Yu insisted stubbornly.

"The final clash was exciting. I thought you were about to lose, but then you bravely charged through the wind trap," Zu Jiming commented.

"I'll go next. You weakling, struggling so hard against a national team member. Embarrassing," Mo Fan sneered, mocking Guan Yu's effort.

Although Guan Yu was annoyed, he couldn't deny that the battle had been tough.

Mo Fan walked over to the Sakura side and immediately locked eyes with Chiyou. "No need to look around. Come on, it's you. This morning, your elders saved you from a proper lesson. This time, on the battlefield, you're not getting away!"

Chiyou frowned. She had been putting up with this disrespectful brat for far too long!

Even the important figures on the Sakura side were taken aback, not expecting Mo Fan to choose her.

However, Meiken interjected, "Mo Fan, you should choose someone else."

Mo Fan ignored him, focusing solely on Chiyou. "It's gotta be her. I just can't stand that arrogant look on her face. What's the point of learning magic if I can't beat her into submission?"

Though Mo Fan knew Chiyou wasn't an ordinary student, he didn't care. He was determined to bring her down.

Chiyou, realizing she couldn't back out, stood up and said, "Teacher, since he insists on picking me, I'll accept. But if I'm the one fighting, they should choose another participant from their side."

Confident in her strength, Chiyou believed Mo Fan was no match for her. However, to be fair, she suggested that the Grand Summer National Team choose an additional member to make up for her participation.

Mo Fan wasn't fazed by her confidence. He had no interest in her reasoning—he was just eager to settle things the simplest way possible.

Chiyou confidently stepped onto the platform, clearly enjoying the situation. She saw this as Mo Fan digging his own grave, and she wasn't about to miss the chance to put him in his place.

As Chiyou entered the arena, the Sakura side began to chatter. In their eyes, Mo Fan was clearly going to be the one humiliated. Chiyou's power was far beyond what any regular national team member could handle.

"You're the most ridiculous and foolish person I've ever seen," Chiyou said, smiling as she faced Mo Fan on the platform. Her superior smile made it clear she saw Mo Fan as nothing more than an amusing joke.

"Listen, brat. If I'm calling you out, it means I can take you down!" Mo Fan taunted her in return.

"Pathetic fool," Chiyou laughed even harder. The more arrogant Mo Fan became, the more delighted she was. Her laughter was so strong that she could barely stand straight.
