Chapter 975: Caught in an Illusion

The paleness wasn't just confined to Shu's lips; his entire visage was equally pallid. Veins emerged from his forehead, jarring and akin to greenish earthworms. Despite being unaware of what had happened to him, the faint remnants of his will kept Shu in his current posture, ensuring he did not make a sound.

In his mind, those black eyes grew clearer and more defined, as if they were real eyes. There was an unlimited allure from the darkness within the black eyes that continuously tempted Shu to abandon resistance and fall into the abyss.

The roaring echoed, akin to the cries of countless beasts, emanating from the black eyes. The soul-stirring sound shook Shu's mental state. If not for the slight metallic taste in his mouth reminding him that everything before him was but an illusion, he might have been led into the darkness by those sounds.

The change in Shu happened in a flash, so brief that it occurred during his conversation with El. Before El had a chance to verify the truth of Shu's words, these transformations had already taken place.

El clearly saw Shu's complexion shift from its original flush to pallor, the veins on his forehead bulging awkwardly, and his bitten hand continually dripping blood. Yet Shu seemed oblivious to his hand bleeding as if he had lost sensation.

Witnessing Shu's dazed gaze, El, not having encountered such a situation before, understood that Shu's state was definitely unfavorable. Thus, he extended his hand and lightly pressed it against Shu's back. Although the action was gentle, El immediately sensed Shu's abnormally low body temperature and trembling body.

What was going on? A significant question arose in El's mind. They had stealthily made their way to this point without encountering anything, yet Shu had such a drastic change. What had transpired? Could it be due to another person? El's thoughts raced, but without seeing that young man, he was unsure of what had happened to Shu. But if El indeed locked eyes with the young man, would he be able to maintain his awareness?

Feeling Shu's increasing tremors, El feared Shu might suddenly lose control over his body. Thus, without caring if his presence would be revealed, he hastily transmitted the Wind Force within him into Shu's body. Both being Wind Element Superpower Users and with Zhu Bufan's imparted secrets, soothing Shu with energy of the same origin was naturally no issue.

The cool Wind Force entered Shu's body and was immediately assimilated by Shu's energy. El also began to mobilize his energy alongside Shu's Wind Force within him. As when El's Wind Force entered Shu, El sensed Shu's Wind Force almost coming to a halt, stagnant as if frozen like water.

With the energy within activated, Shu's body naturally started to follow suit, mobilizing his Wind Force. The circulating Wind Force restored some feeling to Shu, and it was this revived feeling that drew Shu back from the brink of losing consciousness.

Taking a deep breath, Shu didn't even glance at El; he lacked the time to do so now. If he didn't seize the moment to destroy the illusion generated in his mind, the one to be destroyed would be himself. Ignoring the bleeding hand and trembling body, Shu continuously operated the Wind Force within, using his power to dispel discomfort.

The sounds vanished from his ears, the chill down his spine dissipated, and the black eyes in his mind remained, though the sounds from them were fading. Those eyes seemed to resist, unwilling to be eradicated so quickly. Yet, under Shu's revived consciousness assault, the eyes only held out for a moment before being thoroughly shattered.

Having broken the illusions in his mind, Shu ran the Wind Force a few loops, stabilizing his previously disturbed spirit, regulating his breath, and chaotic Wind Force before slowly opening his eyes.

"What a close call," were Shu's first words upon opening his eyes. Then he looked at El beside him and said, "Thank you. If not for you, I wouldn't have made it back."

"What happened?" El was unsure what had transpired, but seeing Shu's pallid complexion regain some color, he knew Shu was temporarily alright.

"I was caught in an illusion." Shu pondered a while before speaking. His words shocked him greatly. Who exactly was that young man? With just a glance, he was trapped in an illusion; if they met face-to-face, what kind of situation would ensue? Shu couldn't bring himself to imagine it.

Thinking of the dangerous situation just now, Shu involuntarily shivered.

"Illusion? What illusion?" El still hadn't wrapped his head around what had happened to Shu. While he knew of illusions, they were the stuff of legends; he had yet to encounter anyone with such a power.

"Hard to explain at the moment. Now's not the time for discussion; Zhu Bufan is in peril. We can't wait any longer." Shu tore off a strip of cloth and hastily bandaged his bleeding hand, then again leaned forward to assess the situation. But this time, he was incredibly alert to avoid falling for the young man's illusions.

El also wanted to lean out and assess the situation, but when he tried, Shu pushed him back. "Be careful of the opponent's tricks." Given what had transpired, Shu didn't want his partner to find himself in the same predicament; losing combat strength before the confrontation was not ideal.

However, the young man did not look over, his gaze quietly resting on Zhu Bufan and the three others in battle. Yet Shu was certain the young man had discovered their presence, though why he hadn't exposed them remained unknown.

Withdrawing, Shu noticed El's furious expression. He couldn't spare apologies; instead, he whispered to El, "We need to prepare to charge out. I will help Zhu Bufan hold off those three, and you seize the moment to take Yi Yun away. Once you're gone, Zhu Bufan and I will retreat, and we'll regroup at the outer dwelling. Remember, no matter what happens, don't come back to aid us. Just take Yi Yun." Shu began to lay out their next moves.

El wanted to argue, but Shu did not give him a chance. After issuing instructions, Shu burst into blue light and dashed from their hiding place towards Zhu Bufan's battlefield. El was left standing, momentarily bewildered. But now wasn't the time to argue with Shu; getting Yi Yun safely away and then finding an opportunity to discuss was priority. Contemplating, El cautiously poked his head out to assess the situation before taking action. Given Shu's earlier predicament, El was incredibly vigilant in observing.

Just as Shu described, in an obscure corner stood a young man, but his focus was entirely on Zhu Bufan's battle group, not paying attention to El's side. However, the more the young man refrained from looking, the more El felt he was deliberately avoiding it because at times he spotted a slight smile curling at the young man's lips.

What was happening? A question arose in El's mind, but his gaze soon chased Shu.

El's gaze followed Shu's figure as he plunged into Zhu Bufan's battleground. Shu entered like a giant blue bird, accompanied by a fierce whirlwind, breaking the battle's balance. This would be the decisive moment, but it remained uncertain which side victory would favor.

El calculated the timing, knowing his moment to charge would arise when both sides found a momentary balance again—then would be his optimal chance for rescue, hence he patiently awaited.
