Chapter 874: Actually Got Injured

Zhu Bufan treated the Fierce Bear as nothing more than a punching bag. Watching the Fierce Bear sit down, Zhu Bufan sneered inwardly, drew his sword, and viciously stabbed towards the soft ribs under the bear's armpit!

"Roar!"

The Fierce Bear let out a painful roar, its huge body shockingly bounced up, rolled in mid-air, and landed directly above Zhu Bufan, reaching for him with its claws, baring its teeth.

"Hmph, you think you can crush me?" Zhu Bufan snorted coldly, rolling on the spot - what you'd call a "lazy donkey roll." It was an ungainly move, but extremely effective.

Though it was an ungraceful maneuver, Zhu Bufan flipped up elegantly and looked at the Fierce Bear with an expectant and fierce glint in his eyes.

Sensing Zhu Bufan's unusual gaze, the Fierce Bear was momentarily startled, not understanding the reason.

'Boom'~~

The Fierce Bear fell, kicking up a layer of snow dust, accompanied by a dull thud.

"Ao ao ao..."

But immediately afterward, the Fierce Bear let out a pitiable howl. Under Zhu Bufan's close scrutiny, a strand of crimson spread out from beneath the bear in the snow, quickly staining a large patch of the snow red.

Zhu Bufan stepped back just in time.

The Fierce Bear got up, its chest impaled by an Iron Sword with the hilt barely visible - this was Zhu Bufan's Iron Sword.

It turned out that while Zhu Bufan was performing the lazy donkey roll, he had covertly set the Iron Sword upright, plunging it into the solid ice as if predicting the Fierce Bear would strike from mid-air.

"Although this strike was fierce, the Fierce Bear's hide is thick and its flesh dense; this sword absolutely won't be the death of it!" Zhu Bufan thought to himself.

The power of a Wild Beast's death throes is truly terrifying, and even though the Fierce Bear was far from that point, it was truly enraged at this moment.

"Roar!"

With a hiss, the Fierce Bear clapped its paws together and pulled out the long sword. During this process, Zhu Bufan watched, his heart pounding with fear.

After the sword was removed, hate-filled eyes turned toward Zhu Bufan. The red gleam in its eyes quickly faded, but its white fur underwent a transformation as if red dye had been injected into it. The roots of the Fierce Bear's snowy-white fur each bore about three layers of red.

"Is this... could this be the Fierce Bear's secondary frenzy?" Zhu Bufan wondered to himself while also stepping back cautiously.

After the change in its fur, the bear's paws followed suit. Deep within the thick palms were slender, sharp-looking claws, each gleaming with cold light - they hardly seemed like parts of an animal, more like the handiwork of skilled craftsmen.

Watching the Fierce Bear's second transformation, Zhu Bufan could no longer stay calm; he could clearly feel that the bear was now in a true frenzy, different from before, with not a speck of intelligence left, only irritation and bloodlust in its mind.

Originally, when Zhu Bufan did the lazy donkey roll, he stabbed the Iron Sword into the ice. The Fierce Bear, completely unprepared, was injured by the blade, which pierced nearly halfway into its body due to its own collision.

Huff huff...

With a furious roar, the Fierce Bear created a strong Gale, forcing Zhu Bufan away by a zhang (about 3.3 meters or 10 feet).

"Roar~~"

As Zhu Bufan stared agape, the Fierce Bear pulled out the Iron Sword and casually rubbed it in its palm, turning the common piece into several segments that fell to the ground.

With the removal of the Iron Sword, blood spurted violently from the wound on the Fierce Bear's body, shooting as far as two meters away, startling Zhu Bufan.

Of course, it was only momentary. If the blood continued to spurt like this, even if the Fierce Bear was ten times stronger, it couldn't afford such a loss!

The Fierce Bear moved its black nose, sniffing the rich scent of blood hanging in the air. With a roar, it locked its gaze onto Zhu Bufan.

Feeling the deadly stare of the Fierce Bear, Zhu Bufan felt as if his heart had been fiercely struck by a hammer; his entire body tensed, and his hair stood on end.

Danger!

An intense sense of crisis filled all of Zhu Bufan's senses. It was such a profound and real feeling that made Zhu Bufan react immediately, rapidly shifting to the side.

Because of this intense sense of danger, Zhu Bufan's potential was fully released, his move so quick that a blurry afterimage was left behind.

Almost the moment Zhu Bufan moved, four streaks of Cold Ice descended from the sky with an extremely sharp whistling sound, splitting the afterimage Zhu Bufan left behind in two, and continuing their momentum towards the ground.

Boom...

The ice shards scattered, lashing out in all directions. Zhu Bufan, being closest, was inevitably hit, the shards with their incredible Penetration Power forced him to dodge while protecting his vulnerable parts such as his eyes.

When the ice and dust dispersed, Zhu Bufan's clothing was riddled like acid had been poured on it, no better than a beggar's rags.

"Not good!"

Zhu Bufan had just steadied himself, and before his gaze could return, a gale swept past his ears. Zhu Bufan felt a numbing sensation at the back of his head, and the piercing sound of the wind made the skin there ache faintly.

Zhu Bufan internally cursed, realizing it was too late to dodge, and could only turn his head away abruptly.

Uh... Pu...

Zhu Bufan felt a constriction in his chest, followed by a surge of force that entered his body without pause. It was as if he were on a roller coaster, flung into the air, spewing out mouthfuls of blood that shockingly contained pieces of purple-red viscera.

After expelling the stagnant blood, Zhu Bufan felt his mind clear slightly, but the ensuing agony quickly overwhelmed his consciousness. Fortunately, his body had been tempered by the arduous practice of the Hanhai Tide Skill, granting him extraordinary endurance. After a muffled groan, he managed to resist the pain and focus his nearly dissipated consciousness to channel the Cold Ice Technique.

He certainly wasn't foolish enough to think that, after that strike, the Fierce Bear would just stand there watching him instead of continuing its attack.

Had it been earlier, before the Fierce Bear entered its frenzied state, it may have paused to gloat over Zhu Bufan's misfortune. But now, the only thought in the Fierce Bear's mind was to tear the person before it to shreds.

Zhu Bufan's prediction proved correct as a swift shadow, fast as the wind, hurtled toward Zhu Bufan's abdomen.

Zhu Bufan knew his body couldn't sustain another hit from the Fierce Bear. With a low roar, he disregarded his injuries and his Cold Ice Internal Energy surged out. Several Qi Vortexes formed in his acupoints, slipping away from the Fierce Bear's claw strikes like water.

"Cough, cough!" Zhu Bufan felt an unbearable itch in his throat and couldn't resist coughing violently. However, this cough aggravated his wounds, and his abdomen churned. The pain he had just quelled flared up again, and he felt an emptiness inside. He tried to circulate his Inner Qi, but as soon as he gathered it, a stabbing pain ensued. His focus faltered, and the gathered Inner Qi returned to his Dantian.

Watching the bellowing Fierce Bear charge at him once again, Zhu Bufan bitterly smiled in his heart. This wild beast wouldn't even allow him a moment's breath!

As he retreated, Zhu Bufan tightly gripped an object in his hand. Whether he could survive today hinged on this one move.

Holding his breath and concentrating his spirit, he became highly alert, and for a moment, everything in Zhu Bufan's senses vanished, leaving only the Fierce Bear's gaping maw. In Zhu Bufan's eyes, that maw seemed to grow larger and larger...

Whoosh...

When less than half the distance was left between them, Zhu Bufan let out a low growl and hurled something from his hand. It moved so fast that only a shadow flashed by before the object made its way into the Fierce Bear's mouth, and a muffled shattering sound could be faintly heard.

Seeing the throw succeed brought a trace of joy to Zhu Bufan's pale face.

Even though the Fierce Bear was in a berserk state, it could not ignore the foreign object in its mouth. Instinctively, it paused, sensing a strange fragrance spreading in its mouth.

It's said that bears love sweets, and indeed, the frenzied state brought out this trait in the Fierce Bear as it savored the taste, its jaw continuously moving up and down as if enjoying a delicious treat.

Seeing the Fierce Bear's sudden halt, Zhu Bufan cried out in relief.

Taking advantage of the lull, he flew backward, putting significant distance between himself and the Fierce Bear.

"Quickly, quickly..." Zhu Bufan prayed in his heart as he retreated.

The object Zhu Bufan had thrown was the Confusion Powder he had concocted based on the Poison Scripture. Just one diluted drop had once made two mutant dogs collapse, and now he had thrown an entire bottle, containing hundreds of drops. Zhu Bufan himself could not be certain it would take effect on the Fierce Bear.

Moreover, even if it did have an effect, it had to be quick. His body, and the speed he was able to muster, would only last a few breaths before the Fierce Bear caught up, filling Zhu Bufan's heart with urgency.

Zhu Bufan watched the Fierce Bear intently, observing its changes.

"Ah, the eyes! The eyes are fading!"

Zhu Bufan suddenly noticed the blood-red in the Fierce Bear's eyes slightly receding, no longer as frightening as before.

The ferocity in its eyes also dissipated a great deal, replaced by a hint of infatuation.

"It's working? That was quick!" Zhu Bufan couldn't help but secretly rejoice, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

He had been gambling all along, first on the effect of the Confusion Powder, and second, on his ability to throw it accurately into the Fierce Bear's mouth.

From a distance of two or three zhang (1 zhang = 3.3 meters/approx. 10 feet), Zhu Bufan was completely confident in his aim. The only uncertainty was the timing of the Fierce Bear's mouth opening and closing, which had no pattern whatsoever.

It was a gamble, pure and simple!

The stake was Zhu Bufan's very life.

Fortunately, Zhu Bufan had won half the bet by getting the whole bottle of Confusion Powder into the Fierce Bear's mouth.

Next, he was betting on the effect of the Confusion Powder and its effectiveness on the Fierce Bear.

After a moment's pause, the Fierce Bear finally moved, turning its head and staring blankly at Zhu Bufan.

Its gaze transitioned from ferocity to anger, and then the Red Light surged, leaving the Fierce Bear gazing vacantly at Zhu Bufan.

Similarly, Zhu Bufan watched the Fierce Bear without blinking, and upon seeing the increasingly bewildered look in its eyes, his heart jolted, and he thought to himself, "It worked!"

Indeed, just as Zhu Bufan thought this, the Fierce Bear collapsed like a drunk, even letting out loud snores.
