Chapter 809: Jump Down Quickly
Gazing at the electromagnetic storm in front of them that could easily tear apart the air, everyone felt a tingling in their scalps, and Emperor Yan immediately hopped back inside the Destroyer of Emperor Yan; Emperor Yan's current strength was simply insufficient to deal with the electromagnetic storm.
The electromagnetic storm was also one of the few weapons that could effectively harm Emperor Yan, after all. At this moment, Emperor Yan was a fusion of a Soul Fragment and the Sword Spirit of Sword Qi, and while the electromagnetic storm might not harm the soul, it could damage the latter two.
As the words of the little fox fell, everyone also noticed a exceptionally large space crack not far from the Heavenly Pillar, and vaguely, they could see a glimmer of light seeping through the space crack, which was different from the deep darkness of other cracks.
"That crack, that's the closest one to the Tenth Layer. Of course, it's very difficult to get through because the electromagnetic storm is too dense," said the little fox, blinking its eyes as a reminder. "Of course, before you guys go through, I suggest dragging that black Demon out again and lifting the Talisman from me, because I've kept my promise to bring you here, you know."
"En, don't worry. I'll have Emperor Yan lift the Talisman," Zhu Bufan nodded, then closed up Emperor Yan, but after a while, his expression became very strange as if he wanted to laugh but was struggling to hold it back, looking absurdly comical.
"Cough... Ling Bai, this is a message from Emperor Yan," Zhu Bufan said with a light cough: "Actually, what she injected into your body before wasn't any Talisman, it was just to scare you. The only purpose of this flame mark is for Emperor Yan to be able to detect your location within a certain range. It will disappear automatically in about ten days or half a month."
Upon hearing Zhu Bufan's words, the little fox suddenly became stunned, and seeing its reaction, Zhu Bufan felt quite apologetic. Ever since entering the Demon Tower, through these days, Zhu Bufan no longer assumed that Demon Beasts were solely malevolent beings—like humans, they also have thoughts and intelligence; they just wanted to live well and, in contrast, humans often invaded their territory for medicinal herbs and minerals.
"That damned black Demon!" Finally, snapping out of it, the little fox suddenly jumped three feet high, clearly frightened by the shocking revelation. The little fox considered itself smart, but now it was taken aback by Emperor Yan's somewhat exaggerated Detecting Mark. All along the way, it had been worried about Zhu Bufan and the others getting hurt, intentionally choosing the safest path to travel. How could the little fox not be angry?
"Ling Bai," seeing the little fox hopping mad, Zhu Bufan crouched down with a bitter smile and said, "Ling Bai, this is my personal wish, I don't know if you could stay and go with us to the Tenth Layer, to leave this Demon Tower?"
"Why?" Hearing Zhu Bufan's words, the little fox looked on guard, having just been played so hard by the people in front of them, it was naturally extremely cautious, afraid of being tricked again.
"It's because of that girl Emperor Yan." After another bitter smile, Zhu Bufan continued: "Although Emperor Yan often bickers with you, I can tell that Emperor Yan treats you like a playmate. These last few days, she hardly ever went back inside the Destroyer of Emperor Yan, instead she came out to play. I rarely see her so joyful, because in the past she often played alone for long periods, so I hope you'll stay with us," Zhu Bufan admitted, feeling his request was somewhat excessive.
Sure enough, after listening to Zhu Bufan's words, the little fox glared at Zhu Bufan in anger and said, "What a joke, I'm not your toy. Why should I please that black Demon? Go to hell!" Having said that, the little fox dashed into the Prohibition and immediately vanished from sight.
Seeing the little fox leave, Zhu Bufan could only sigh. Although he knew he was asking for too much, Zhu Bufan genuinely hoped the little fox would stay; it was rare to see Emperor Yan as cheerful as these past few days.
After letting go of the matter with the little fox, everyone began to consider more important and practical issues, namely how to get through the electromagnetic storm and reach the space crack that led to the Tenth Layer. Although everyone was currently in a safe area at the edge of the Prohibition, advancing would inevitably result in being swept up by the powerful electromagnetic storm.
"Let me try first," Wang Hui said thoughtfully after a moment, then gathered all of his Primordial Qi. Among the three of them, Wang Hui's Cultivation was the highest. We saw that Wang Hui, upon releasing his Primordial Qi with all his might, enveloped himself in a thin orange-red membrane.
Taking just one step forward, Wang Hui could feel his Primordial Qi Barrier being intensely torn at; the Primordial Qi Barrier wrapped around him immediately began to weaken continuously. The further he moved forward, the more severe the situation, and Wang Hui's Primordial Qi was being rapidly depleted.
Watching the orange figure plunge into the electromagnetic storm, Zhu Bufan and Huo Ling could only wait, seeing the figure moving further and further away, hope also kindled in their hearts.
However, very soon, the two of them discovered that Wang Hui had only advanced less than two hundred meters before immediately turning back. Upon his return, Wang Hui shook his head and said to Zhu Bufan and Huo Ling, "No good, I was already feeling overwhelmed after covering only a quarter of the distance. If it weren't for the Sealing Thunder Crystal, I'm afraid I would have been swept away by the electromagnetic storm."
After hearing what Wang Hui said, Zhu Bufan and Huo Ling both felt a chill in their hearts. Wang Hui was a cultivator of the Soul Refining Realm, a whole realm higher than either of them. But if even Wang Hui couldn't last a quarter of the distance, there was no talking about Zhu Bufan and Huo Ling. For a moment, the three of them fell silent again. It might be possible to cheat with prohibitions, but to cross this electromagnetic storm, they had to rely solely on their cultivation, without any possibility of trickery.
"What a bunch of idiots." Just then, a child's voice came along. Turning back, they saw the little fox that had supposedly left was now standing right behind everybody, looking at their troubled faces with nothing but mockery in its bright blue eyes.
"Ling Bai? Why did you come back?" Seeing the little fox return, Zhu Bufan immediately felt joy, but upon seeing the happy expressions of the three people, the little fox curled its lip and said, "I was actually leaving already, but seeing how stupid you guys looked, I couldn't help but come back to scold you."
"You three came together; don't you know to stand close to each other and forcefully push through the electromagnetic storm with a combined Primordial Qi Barrier? The three of you working together is much easier than one alone, especially since you all have so many top-quality Crystal Stones that can be converted into Primordial Qi. Passing through here should be incredibly simple!" After finishing, the little fox took on a look of shaking its head and lecturing, making Zhu Bufan think of Emperor Yan putting on an air of mature wisdom. No wonder the human and the fox got along so harmoniously; their personalities were quite similar.
"That's true." After listening to the little fox, Zhu Bufan scooped it up. While the little fox struggled, Zhu Bufan took out a Sealing Thunder Jade Necklace from the Storage Ring that he had prepared earlier and hung it around the little fox's neck. Then he said, "Now there are four of us. We should be able to get through faster and safer now, right?"
"Hey, what do you mean? I don't want to go mad with you, let me down!!" The little fox that Zhu Bufan held began to struggle fiercely, but Zhu Bufan simply ignored it. Knowing that the little fox had a personality similar to Emperor Yan, Zhu Bufan disregarded its little struggles. After all, the little fox was a two-tailed Demon Fox, equating to Second Rank cultivation. If it really wanted to free itself, once it released its cultivation, it would definitely be able to escape. But the fact that the little fox was just struggling without using its cultivation to free itself, meant that it was just unable to let go of its pride.
Doing as the little fox said, they stood closely together, and Zhu Bufan held the little fox in his arms, still feeling worried. From his storage, he took out a few more Sealing Thunder Crystals for Huo Ling and Wang Hui to hold onto.
"Let's go!"
Once ready, the three humans and one fox put up the Primordial Qi Barrier, stepped out of the edge of the prohibition and into the electromagnetic storm. Upon entering, Zhu Bufan felt his Primordial Qi being rapidly 'blown' away, and the barrier emitted a 'squeaking' noise as if it were being scraped by metal.
"Don't stop; charge there in one go. If we stop halfway, the consumption will be even faster!" said the little fox in Zhu Bufan's arms upon seeing his expression, its voice clearly reaching the three amidst the roaring wind. Without hesitation, the three people, fully supporting the Primordial Qi Barrier, dashed toward the crack beneath the Heavenly Pillar.
The kilometer or so of distance didn't take much time to cover at their rushing speed, but even in such a short span of time, the three's consumption of Primordial Qi was much more severe than after a great battle. Finally arriving at the edge of the rift, they all felt astoundment at the strong spatial fluctuations emanating from within.
"Don't just stand there, jump down!"
Stunned by the powerful spatial fluctuations, all three hesitated, which caused their Primordial Qi to dissipate even faster. Sensing the rapid loss of Primordial Qi, the little fox shouted loudly.
They were caught in a dilemma, and it was impossible to go back now. So after a moment's pause, they didn't hesitate and directly jumped down into the rift, which emanated a white light. In an instant, the three were enveloped by endless darkness.
