Chapter 231 Too Cunning

"What?" Mi Tao stared at Zhu Bufan with disbelief.

For a moment, he thought he had heard wrong, and it took him quite a while to calm his agitated heart before he finally spoke to Zhu Bufan:

"But what? Bufan, just say it, as long as it's something Uncle Mi can do, I will definitely make it happen for you."

"Don't worry, I wouldn't ask you to do something that's too difficult," Zhu Bufan said.

Mi Tao didn't respond, fully aware that Zhu Bufan was no good character.

"The matter is simple, I currently have no feelings for your precious daughter, and you have to make me develop feelings for her before I agree to save her. As for the engagement, I'll attend." Zhu Bufan snapped his fingers and then spoke indifferently.

After hearing this, Mi Tao silently cursed Zhu Bufan as shameless. If it weren't for the fact that only you can save my daughter, would I send her into this pit of fire? Making it sound like you're at a great disadvantage—damn it, I'm the one who's truly at a disadvantage here.

Of course, these curses were in his mind, while on the surface he forced a smile and said, "Fine, fine, I will definitely make you fall in love with my daughter."

Originally, Mi Tao intended to say 'seduce', but then thought better of it. This would have to be done discreetly; as long as he could get Zhu Bufan to consummate the marriage with his daughter, things would be easier.

"Alright, I'm a bit tired today, so I won't see you out," Zhu Bufan said, gesturing with his hand.

The implication was clear—it was time to see the guest off.

"Alright, Bufan, you rest up. Tomorrow I'll send someone to pick you up," Mi Tao said.

"Pick me up for what!" Zhu Bufan said impatiently.

"The engagement, it's better sooner than later, so it will be tomorrow," Mi Tao replied with a smile and then left the presidential suite.

After Mi Tao left, not long afterward, Mi Cai walked in.

"Did you agree?" Mi Cai asked directly upon entering.

Zhu Bufan felt a twinge in his heart, that old fox actually lied to him. Didn't he say Mi Cai didn't know about this?

"You answer me," Mi Cai demanded, frowning, as she got no response from Zhu Bufan.

"Um! I agreed," Zhu Bufan nodded.

"How could you agree, how can you..." Mi Cai trembled, staring into Zhu Bufan's eyes, her gaze spinning with unclear thoughts.

Zhu Bufan was somewhat puzzled; this woman's reaction was a bit too intense, wasn't it?

"Zhu Bufan, did you really agree to a fake engagement with me? Do you know how formidable the people who want to harm me are? Even Uncle Anu got injured by them. Are you... really sure about this?" Concern and a trace of pain flashed in Mi Cai's brow.

Zhu Bufan's eyebrows furrowed. What was going on? Why did he feel like he had been played by that old fox Mi Tao, and heavily at that?

"Can you tell me exactly what's going on?" Zhu Bufan asked, looking at Mi Cai.

"Didn't my father tell you?" Mi Cai looked at Zhu Bufan, somewhat puzzled.

"Uh-huh!" Zhu Bufan nodded.

"Alright then!" Mi Cai said, "My father told me that last time we went together to destroy the Demonized Base, which enraged the Demonized Organization, and they want revenge. I don't know if you've been targeted, but people from the Demonized Organization came to my house. That day, a man cloaked in a black robe came to our place and battled with Uncle Anu. If it weren't for my father arriving in time, I probably would have been captured. Yet, even so, Uncle Anu was badly injured."

Upon hearing this, Zhu Bufan's brows were tightly knotted. The man in the black robe had indeed not left Tianhai City.

"Afterwards, Dad told me that the man in the black robe came for me. He said to have a fake marriage with you and then have you act as my bodyguard. I thought you would refuse, but it turned out you..." Mi Cai continued speaking.

Her beautiful eyes gazed at Zhu Bufan, a blush of shyness spreading across her face. Ever since that incident at Iron Coffin Mountain, she found herself harboring inexplicable feelings for Zhu Bufan.

She wasn't sure if it was affection or something else, but she always wanted to see Zhu Bufan, even a brief glimpse from afar was enough.

Only after consulting several books on romance did she realize she had lovesickness; she had fallen in love with this man without knowing it.

Zhu Bufan felt a surge of frustration inside. That old rascal Mi Tao, how unscrupulous of him, he'd clearly asked him to go after his daughter, yet he told his daughter that they were having a fake marriage and that he was to act as her bodyguard. Was this supposed to be a play turned real?

He really wanted to punch that old rascal hard.

"Oh... I see!" Zhu Bufan replied.

"Yes!" Mi Cai nodded.

"I understand. You go back first! We're getting engaged tomorrow, so I need to get ready," Zhu Bufan said.

...

Inside a black sedan.

"Smart kid, trying to outwit me, you're still too green." Mi Tao wore a triumphant smile.

But then he seemed to remember something, and the smile on his face instantly turned serious.

"Man in black, I hope you don't come tomorrow; otherwise, I, Mi Tao, will kill you." A fierce killing intent burst from Mi Tao's eyes.

Back then, it was because of this man in black that Mi Tao's wife, also Mi Cai's mother, was captured and taken away, her fate unknown to this day. Mi Tao had been poisoned for many years after trying to rescue Mi Cai's mother.

The hatred between Mi Tao and the man in black had reached an irreconcilable level.

After Mi Cai left, Zhu Bufan stepped out of his room and went to the room where Zhou Xin and Wen Yiyang were staying.

As he entered, before Zhu Bufan could speak, Wen Yiyang blurted out:

"Junior brother, you rock! This is the first time I've seen a real member of the Anping Organization! Quick, junior brother, tell us, how do you know this person, what exactly is your relationship with him? Was it him who sent you to our Dragon Valley, and is your entry into the Anping Organization this year already predetermined? Are you one of them?"

Wen Yiyang bombarded Zhu Bufan with a rapid succession of questions.

Zhu Bufan rolled his eyes, thinking you're my senior brother, yet you didn't intervene when people entered your junior brother's room? Clearly afraid of authority.

No sooner had the person left, than your questions came shooting out like bullets. Are you being fair to me, your junior brother?

Seeing that Zhu Bufan was ignoring him, Wen Yiyang became anxious:

"Junior brother, say something! Have you forgotten about your senior brother after climbing up to some high-ranking person? That's too disloyal! To think I've always shown you so much love, you really make this senior brother's heart go cold," Wen Yiyang said with a disapproving face.

Zhu Bufan was utterly speechless.

"Alright, Wen Yiyang, stop it," Zhou Xin said, seeing the annoyance on Zhu Bufan's face, he finally interrupted Wen Yiyang.

Although Zhou Xin scolded him, Wen Yiyang still looked at Zhu Bufan with a wronged and resentful expression, leaving Zhu Bufan even more speechless.

"Junior brother, the Boxer asked me to pass on a message, telling you to make sure to follow that person's requests. Has something happened?" Zhou Xin asked.
