Chapter 186 He Left

Just then, the sound of police sirens approached from a distance.

"Looking at how young you guys are, yet you don't learn good behaviors, just wait to be shot."

Zhu Bufan didn't make a sound, his face unfazed, while Tang Qingcheng continued to desperately defend herself.

After a while, a police car stopped in the open space in front of the small shop. Then four male police officers got out of the car.

Village chief Zheng Liangyun hurriedly went up to meet them.

"It's been tough traveling all this way. Come have some water!" Zheng Liangyun handed over the four bottles of mineral water he was holding to the officers, and then began to speak.

"Thank you." One of the officers took the bottles, distributed the water to his colleagues, and they all opened the bottles and took a big gulp. The leading officer then asked Zheng Liangyun, "You're Chief Zheng, right?"

"Um, yes, I am." Zheng Liangyun replied.

"That's the case, Chief Zheng. We received your emergency call and came right away. Can you tell us the details?" The leading officer asked politely.

"In such hot weather, for you to come so promptly, I'm truly thankful," Zheng Liangyun said gratefully.

"No need for thanks, this is what we should do! Chief Zheng, please tell us about the specifics first," said the leading officer.

"Officer, those people are the murderers, you must arrest them right away, better yet execute them immediately." At this moment, Zhu Bufan, Tang Qingcheng, and a group of villagers walked towards the officers. One of the villagers immediately and indignantly spoke up to the leading officer.

"Officer, we're not the murderers, really not." Tang Qingcheng pleaded.

"They are, they are! Since their arrival in our village this incident has happened, if not them then who?" The villagers murmured restlessly.

"Fellow villagers, please don't rush, we will get to the bottom of this. If they truly are the murderers, we, the people's police, will not let them go; but if they are not, then the people's police will not wrong a good person either, so please be assured," the leading officer said sternly, frowning.

"Okay, enough murmuring. The officers will handle the case and will give us an explanation," Village chief Zheng Liangyun also shouted.

It must be said that as the village chief, Zheng Liangyun had quite the authority in the village; his shout immediately quieted the murmuring of the villagers by quite a bit.

"Chief Zheng, please explain to us what exactly happened." The leading officer glanced at Zhu Bufan and Tang Qingcheng before speaking to Zheng Liangyun.

"Zhu Bufan, why aren't you defending yourself?" Tang Qingcheng said with some displeasure.

Zhu Bufan smiled slightly: "I trust the officer will give us justice."

"That's the thing, officer. They came to our village two days ago, and I'm not quite sure what they were here for, but this incident happened upon their arrival. It's within reason for the villagers to think this way; however, I believe they shouldn't be the murderers..." Zheng Liangyun explained the whole event to the leading officer.

"Xiao Zhang, have the written records been completed?" the leading officer asked his colleague.

"Done, Captain Wu."

"Good. Chief Zheng, can you lead us to see the bodies of those children?" the leading officer said.

"Come with me!" replied Zheng Liangyun, preparing to lead the police officers to examine the children's bodies.

Zhu Bufan struggled internally, wondering whether to tell the leading officer the truth about the incident. In the end, Zhu Bufan still called out to the officer: "Officer Wu, please wait."

Wu Fan was stunned, pausing the step he had just taken, as Zhu Bufan walked over.

"Do you know me?" Wu Fan asked.

"I don't!" Zhu Bufan replied curtly.

"How do you know my surname is Wu?"

"Oh, just now your colleague called you Captain Wu, so!"

"Do you need something?" Wu Fan asked, his face illuminated with a dawning realization. However, a fleeting look of approval flashed in his eyes.

"Officer Wu, may I have a word with you in private?" Zhu Bufan said.

Zheng Liangyun's heart skipped a beat, worried that Zhu Bufan might bring up Iron Coffin Mountain as they stepped aside to talk. He hurriedly said to Wu Fan: "Officer Wu..."

Wu Fan raised his hand to stop Zheng Liangyun mid-sentence, then gestured to Zhu Bufan to proceed.

The two of them moved aside.

"Speak! What's the matter?"

"Do you know about demonized individuals?" Zhu Bufan began.

"What? Demonized individuals?" Wu Fan looked utterly shocked.

"From the look on your face, Officer Wu, I can tell you know about them. Indeed, the incidents that occurred in this village were the works of demonized individuals," Zhu Bufan said calmly.

"Do you have any evidence to prove it!" Wu Fan steadied himself before speaking.

"Because I fought with a demonized person last night! Officer Wu, it won't be long before higher-ranking officials arrive here. I advise you to leave quickly! You can't handle these demonized people."

"So you are Zhu Bufan!" Wu Fan smiled.

Zhu Bufan was startled: "Are you the one sent from above?"

"Correct!" Wu Fan nodded.

Only then did Zhu Bufan realize; he had previously failed to gauge the strength of the four officers.

"Alright, Zhu Bufan, we already know your situation. I'll come to find you later. I need to deal with the matter of those children first," Wu Fan said.

"Okay!"

Watching Wu Fan walk away with Zheng Liangyun, Zhu Bufan pondered thoughtfully, uncertain whether these four were from the Sky Dragon Team, Divine Dragon Group, or Anping Team.

The villagers, having seen the four officers walk away with village chief Zheng Liangyun without apprehending Zhu Bufan and Tang Qingcheng on the spot, were somewhat indignant. They pointed fingers and murmured among themselves before following, leaving behind two rather burly middle-aged men to keep watch over Zhu Bufan and Tang Qingcheng.

Throughout this process, the owner of the small store didn't utter a word. He expressed no blame nor affirmation towards Zhu Bufan and Tang Qingcheng, simply watching the scene unfold in silence.

His child was away at university, so none of the suffering children were his. However, he felt outraged on behalf of the villagers' children.

Although he believed Zhu Bufan and his companions wouldn't commit such acts, their group had one person missing, leading to some uncertainty and thus he neither spoke up for Zhu Bufan and Tang Qingcheng nor against them.

One of the burly middle-aged men who stayed behind was this store owner.

"Qingcheng, why don't you tell Uncle Yang where the other person from your group went?" the store owner leaned in and whispered to Tang Qingcheng.

"Uncle Yang, do you suspect us of doing this?" Instead of answering, Tang Qingcheng asked directly.

"Qingcheng, Uncle Yang believes that you wouldn't do such a thing. Although I've only known you for two days, I can tell you're a good girl who wouldn't do something so vile. But could you tell me where the person who came with you has gone?" Uncle Yang said.

"Thank you, Uncle Yang. Uncle Anu has returned," Tang Qingcheng said, but worried that Uncle Yang might suspect Anu of fleeing, she quickly added: "Please believe me, Uncle Yang, Uncle Anu couldn't have done this. He had important matters to attend to, that's why!"

Tang Qingcheng didn't quite know how to explain because she also wasn't aware of the actual reason behind Uncle Anu's departure, and although she harbored doubts, ultimately she didn't believe Anu capable of such deeds.
