Chapter 1020: Awaiting Death's Arrival

After the muffled sound reached a certain rhythm, it remained steady without speeding up, but this rhythm was precisely at everyone's critical threshold, just bordering on discomfort but not enough to pose a life-threatening risk due to rapid heartbeats. Sorres had already spat out several mouthfuls of blood because of this sound, his face entirely devoid of color, his body limp on the ground. However, he did not die, with his breath weakly suspended, eyes filled with despair.

Jue still stood, but his body was slightly bent now, his chest covered extensively in red. The blue light that had flashed on him was no longer there, and the wind force within him had completely dispersed. Now, even a child could easily kill him.

Mr. Rui still stood straight, but his face was utterly pale, his clothes relatively clean, yet his slightly trembling hands betrayed him; even Mr. Rui couldn't resist under the influence of this sound.

This sound continued persistently, as if it would never disappear.

With a thud, the entire world seemed to shake, the ground they stood upon trembled violently, and the sea kicked up massive waves. Yet Yan Luo, who had always shown no change in expression, displayed a trace of panic at the instant the sound reached them, and her face turned deathly pale afterward.

"Not good." She exclaimed softly. Just as her words fell, another muffled sound reached them.

The ground trembled again, waves surged more violently, and the clear sky turned stormy, as if an unseen hand was stirring the clouds above.

Thud, thud, thud, the sounds kept coming from all directions, shaking this world violently. Meanwhile, Yan Luo's face grew increasingly grim. She quickly formed seal techniques, attempting to stabilize this virtual realm. However, her efforts were in vain, the sound grew louder and more frequent, and she even coughed up a mouthful of blood in response to the sound.

Her delicate face turned ghostly pale, and the shaking of the virtual realm intensified. Yi Tian felt as if he had been shoved into a giant ball, being violently shaken by an external force.

Before Yan Luo could make another move, a sudden tearing sound came from the sky above, followed by a giant rift that opened up, revealing nothing but darkness within.

"Not good, this place is about to collapse." Yi Tian, having lived in the virtual realm, was aware that this was a sign of its collapse. However, he couldn't understand why, since the owner of the realm was standing unscathed before him; the realm shouldn't collapse unless someone was sabotaging it from outside.

To destroy a virtual realm... thinking of this, Yi Tian's face turned ashen. Creating a virtual realm already required monstrous powers, and someone capable of destroying one must be an unimaginable monster.

"Run. Quickly." Yi Tian shouted in desperation. He knew what chaotic state would follow the collapse of the virtual realm, and if they didn't leave now, it would soon be too late.

"We can't leave." Yan Luo suddenly spoke, a fierce look on her face. After the initial panic, she had realized what was happening. Someone must be attempting to open the seal here; otherwise, it wouldn't affect this virtual realm's core. Moreover, the thing that's opening the seal was not ordinary.

Hands moving continually, Yan Luo cast one mysterious and complex hand seal after another, something she had to do. If this virtual realm collapsed, the world outside would collapse as well. Her hands moved swiftly, like fluttering butterflies, but even so, she couldn't repair the virtual realm fast enough. She knew her efforts were in vain, yet she had no choice.

Beside her, Yi Tian couldn't understand why Yan Luo was being so irrational at such a critical time. He dashed in front of her and shouted, "Run quickly. This place is about to collapse; let us out." Without the permission of the realm's owner, no one could escape. Just when he was about to leave, this disaster unfolded. Yi Tian didn't want to be buried with the others; he still had important matters to attend to.

Yan Luo blatantly ignored Yi Tian's cries, focusing solely on forming hand seals, persistently trying to control the virtual realm's collapse.

Seeing Yan Luo's indifference, Yi Tian growled angrily, punching his right fist towards her. He had no choice but to resort to such extreme measures, knowing he was no match for Yan Luo.

"Courting death." Yan Luo's eyes widened, a flash of blue light burst out, sending Yi Tian crashing far away. Yet her hands didn't pause for a second, unable to afford any mistake. A single slip, and she would lose contact with the virtual realm completely, having no choice but to abandon it.

The blow had Yi Tian spitting a mouthful of blood, slamming onto the ground. He lacked the strength to rise again; Yan Luo's seemingly light attack was shockingly forceful, and she had incapacitated Yi Tian to stop him from disturbing her.

The world continued to tremble, the sky's rifts multiplying, and the sea's roaring waves continuously surged toward where Yi Tian and the others stood. Yan Luo lost control over this world, and although she maintained minimal connection, she could no longer command it.

A low hum sounded, followed by a grotesque, eerie laughter, as if someone was whispering in their ears. Everyone in the virtual realm heard a voice, an enchanting voice. It spoke simple words.

"Give up. You're all too tired, take a good rest now."

This bewitching melodious voice made Old Tian and others drowsy. On hearing the voice, Yan Luo's face changed again, and she swiftly roared, "Get out." Her voice spread outwards, instantly dispelling the enchanting sound. Old Tian and the four others snapped out of their drowsy half-asleep state.

The eerie laughter resounded again, an unbearable noise like nails on a chalkboard. Yan Luo's face was extremely grim, unexpectedly finding the virtual realm in disarray even before the seal broke.

Now even Yan Luo herself had no means to rectify the situation. Sighing, she couldn't fathom such an error at this moment, as if even the heavens aided that entity. She lacked the strength to open a path from the virtual realm to the real world. Completely out of control now, Yan Luo found herself trapped within.

This must be the most ridiculous joke, trapped in her own house with the key in her hand. A bitter smile emerged on Yan Luo's face, an ugly smile conveying all the bitterness in her heart.

Yi Tian, lying on the ground, hopelessly watched the sky disintegrate above him. Who would have thought he'd die in such a bizarre place? Truly begrudging to die before knowing Bai Lian's fate, or before completing his tasks. Eyes wide open, he watched the sky's rifts grow larger and more numerous. This virtual realm was entirely finished.

Though Old Tian and the four didn't understand what was happening, the scale was evidence enough—this place was doomed. They watched in despair as this world crumbled bit by bit, knowing they'd never leave the ruined city to see the outer world. Heard it was wondrous outside, but they'd have to see it next lifetime.

Tears trickled down the corners of their eyes as they reluctantly closed them. Their destinies predetermined, bound eternally to guard the ruined city. Now that it was destroyed, they had no reason to stay.

Despair welled up in the hearts of all six, while Mol and the two Flame Leopards slumbered on, unaware of the impending death they awaited.

The eerie laughter continued to echo, seemingly celebrating the world's demise.

Yan Luo finally closed her eyes, unwilling to watch the world combust and the seals removed. She felt a disgrace to her entrusted duties, yet there was little she could do, clueless about what caused this. Seeking control was futile, but surely, after so much time, it was time to finish.
