Chapter 308: The Casino
The Yongli Grand Hotel.
The hotel wasn't large, with only six stories, and it looked unremarkable from the outside. But anyone who had spent some time in Lingjin City knew that this place, masquerading as a hotel, was actually the largest casino in the city. After so many years of operation, it could very well be called an open secret. Yet, despite everything, the casino remained unscathed, standing tall in the bustling district of South City.
After getting out of the car, Yang Hu reported, "Boss, I've already investigated. That old pervert is named Yan Haolin, and he's currently inside the Yongli Grand Hotel."
"I've contacted Ji Ping to bring his men and raid this casino."
Chen Yang nodded.
By this time, twilight was settling in. On the landscaped strips flanking the hotel's main entrance, many opulently dressed men sat on the ground, each clutching a mobile phone, their purpose unknown.
Seeing Chen Yang's gaze fall upon these men, Yang Hu explained, "These are all people who have lost money in the casino. Some are contacting lending platforms, others their families and friends, but their goal is the same—to raise money in the hopes of turning their luck around."
"And those who can't raise the money can only spend the night lying here," Yang Hu said, sighing and shaking his head. "Among these people, only a small portion are gambling addicts. The rest are either self-employed individuals or company CEOs. Some got hooked gradually, while others came here with the last of their funds because their companies were failing, seeking the chance to get rich overnight."
After listening, Chen Yang sighed. He felt a sense of lament, but not an ounce of sympathy.
To be honest, these people didn't deserve any sympathy at all. They're adults, after all. How could they not know that something like gambling is untouchable? No matter how badly they lose, they only have themselves to blame. It's just their families who suffer, forced to bear the consequences of one individual's irrationality and irresponsibility.
Chen Yang averted his gaze and walked into the Yongli Grand Hotel.
Compared to the plain exterior, the inside was a sight to behold—golden and brilliant, with ornately carved beams and painted rafters everywhere, all screaming of an opulence and luxury built on money.
In the main hall on the second floor, thousands of square meters were packed with a sea of people, and all kinds of gambling games were available. Some people shouted with excitement after winning a fortune, but far more rose from the tables with their heads bowed, crestfallen and dispirited. Some of the more frantic ones rushed directly to the loan window right next to the chip exchange counter.
Here, as long as you had collateral, you could easily borrow whatever you needed, whether it was a hundred million or a billion. But the daily interest rate of three percent was terrifying. If you borrowed a hundred million, the daily interest would be three million, amounting to ninety million a month. If you were lucky enough to win it back, that was one thing. But if you couldn't, you would be trapped for life.
In fact, anytime the house was the dealer, the odds were nearly always against the player—you would lose nine times out of ten. Ultimately, a player is just a player; you can only win a little if the house is willing to let you. Luck, after all, is far too ethereal a thing. Besides, even the best luck couldn't outplay high-tech tricks.
While Chen Yang was surveying the scene, Yang Hu exchanged a million in chips and chuckled, "Boss, instead of us looking for him, why don't we have him come to us? Besides, this is easy money. We might even be able to build a few more charity hospitals with it."
Chen Yang glanced at him. "You're that confident?"
"With you here, the Fourteenth Order Ten Thousand Phenomena Senluo, won't we win until they're stripping down to their underwear?" Yang Hu winked, laying the flattery on thick.
Chen Yang smiled but paid him no more mind, walking over to a table playing Sic Bo, where players bet on high or low. He didn't rush to place a bet, instead watching quietly for a while. He could clearly hear that just before the dealer lifted the dice cup each time, the five dice inside would jump slightly.
It was clearly being manipulated. This meant the dealer could change the outcome of the dice based on how the bets were distributed on the table. For example, if two-thirds of the bets in a round were on 'High', he would naturally make the result 'Low'. Occasionally, he would roll a specific triple, sweeping the board clean in a "win-all" to further stimulate the gamblers. Of course, he would also let everyone win a little now and then. Bleeding the gamblers slowly was the only way to keep them hooked until they eventually lost everything, down to their underwear.
Having figured this out, Chen Yang tossed a chip worth five hundred thousand onto the "Low" space.
Five hundred thousand was no small sum. Instantly, many people nearby, along with the bespectacled dealer, cast probing glances his way. Chen Yang responded with a smile.
Then, the dice rattled. Just like before, after the cup landed, the dice inside vibrated slightly. Chen Yang's smile remained, but he lightly stomped his foot on the ground. A pulse of energy shot out, traveled into the dice cup, and caused the dice inside to flip back to their previous numbers.
"Open!"
The dealer lifted the cup. One, one, two, two, three.
Low.
Hmm?
The dealer's expression visibly changed. Although he quickly masked it, Chen Yang saw it clearly. This proved his suspicion was correct.
"Hey, man, what great luck! You made half a million right off the bat!"
"Tsk, tsk, I'm envious of your luck."
"..."
The others at the table were only betting a few thousand at a time. Seeing Chen Yang win half a million at once, they were envious but quick to congratulate him.
Chen Yang smiled. "Indeed, it was good luck."
He then placed all one million of his chips on 'Low' again.
Gamblers are superstitious, so many of them began to follow Chen Yang's lead and bet on 'Low'. According to the normal procedure, this round was sure to be 'High'. But under Chen Yang's interference, the result was, naturally, 'Low' again. The subsequent round went the same way.
"Brother, come, come, please take this seat! We'll just stand behind you and follow your bets," a middle-aged man sitting at the table said, getting up and pulling Chen Yang toward his spot.
"Exactly, exactly! Whatever you bet, we'll follow!"
"Bro, you must be possessed by the God of Luck!"
"I've made over twenty thousand in just these three rounds."
"Keep it going, keep it going!"
"..."
The crowd was ecstatic, all but ready to deify Chen Yang. Not standing on ceremony, Chen Yang sat down. Then, after feigning contemplation for a moment, he pushed five million in chips onto 'High'. The others all followed suit.
The dealer glanced at the security camera on the ceiling, a cold smirk touching his lips. He knew something was wrong. His glance at the camera had been to report the situation to his superiors.
Soon, the dice were revealed.
High!
His five million instantly became ten million. The people around him, who had followed his bet, also won handsomely, all of them grinning from ear to ear. Chen Yang made no effort to hide what he was doing or play the long game. He just kept winning.
In less than ten minutes, Chen Yang had won a hundred million.
The dealer, for his part, was drenched in sweat, glancing repeatedly at the camera above.
In fact, in the surveillance room upstairs, a group of people had already begun their analysis.
"See that? Every time our guy finishes manipulating the dice, this fellow's right hand taps lightly on the table, and immediately after, the dice in the cup change!"
"He's a master!!" a man beside him exclaimed.
"Indeed, a master," said a man in his fifties. He was dressed in a black formal suit and was toying with two steel balls in his hand. A cold glint flashed in his deeply sunken eyes as he spoke ominously, "But daring to mess around on my, Yan the Third's, turf? Isn't that just asking for death?"
"Summon our men. We're going down."
"Yes, Boss!!"
