Chapter 13: Love stands a chance

Tony's mind raced with every passing second, each one that brought him closer to losing Sophie, and yet, he remained calm on the outside. The call from Victor had shattered everything he had been working for. He could feel the weight of the decision bearing down on him. His company, his empire, the contracts—everything was on the line. But none of it mattered without Sophie.

He paced his office, his mind working overtime, calculating his next move. He couldn't give in to Victor's demands. Not only would it mean betraying everything he had built, but it would also mean putting Sophie in greater danger. Victor would never let her go, not when he had her right where he wanted her.

Tony couldn't shake the image of Sophie's terrified face, her hands bound and eyes filled with confusion and fear. He had promised her that he would protect her, and now he would need to move mountains to do so.

Victor was a dangerous man, but Tony had his own resources. He had people he trusted, a network of loyal allies in his company, and the influence to make moves others couldn't. He couldn't give up the contract. The stakes were too high. But he couldn't let Sophie suffer, either.

He picked up his phone, dialing a number he hadn't in a long time. The voice on the other end was gruff, a little surprised but steady.

"Tony? What's going on?"

"I need your help," Tony said, his voice low but urgent. "Victor has taken Sophie. He's demanding that I drop the deal, the contract, or he'll kill her."

There was a long pause, followed by a heavy sigh. "You're in deeper than I thought. What's the plan?"

"I'm not dropping the contract," Tony said firmly. "I need you to find Sophie. Find out where he's keeping her."

"You're going to risk everything for her, huh?" the voice asked, a slight chuckle, but Tony could hear the seriousness beneath it. "I'll get it done. Don't do anything stupid."

Tony didn't have time for a long conversation. He hung up, his heart still racing. Sophie's life hung in the balance, and there was no time to waste.

---

Meanwhile, Sophie sat in a small, dimly lit room, the walls cold and unyielding. She had no idea where she was, no sense of time, just a feeling of fear and isolation that gripped her chest with every breath. Her hands were still bound, though the ropes weren't too tight—just enough to make her feel helpless. She had been here for what felt like hours, or maybe days. Her mind raced, thinking of Tony, wondering if he had received the call, wondering if he was coming for her.

But the longer she sat, the more the doubt crept in. What if he didn't come? What if he really chose the contract over her?

The door creaked open, and a shadow appeared in the doorway. Sophie's heart stopped, and she instinctively tried to pull away, even though there was no escape.

Victor's voice filled the room, cold and mocking. "So, Tony's not coming for you, huh? You think he'll save you? I'm afraid you're just another pawn in his game, Sophie. He'll choose power over you, just like all the rest."

Sophie's chest tightened as she fought to keep her composure. "You don't know him. He'll come for me."

Victor chuckled darkly. "We'll see about that."

---

Back in Tony's office, he stood by the window, his mind consumed with strategies, with the risk of what he was about to do. He couldn't give in to Victor's demands, but he couldn't let Sophie die, either. There had to be a way to save her and still secure the deal.

He turned toward his desk, pulling up a map of the city. He began to make calls, setting up a plan—fast, calculated, precise. He couldn't afford to waste any more time. Sophie's life depended on him.

As the hours passed, Tony's network worked tirelessly to track down every possible location Victor could have used. It was a game of cat and mouse, but Tony knew he couldn't afford to let it become a waiting game. He had to get to her first.

---

Sophie's hope flickered and dimmed as time dragged on. The sound of footsteps approaching pulled her from her thoughts. She looked up, startled, to find Victor standing there once again, a smug smile on his face.

"Still waiting for your knight in shining armor, huh?" Victor taunted, taking a step closer. "You should know by now that Tony doesn't care about you. He's already made his choice. And it's not you."

Sophie's heart sank, but she refused to let him see the effect his words had on her. "You're wrong," she said, her voice firm despite the fear building inside her. "He's coming for me."

Victor's smile faded as he leaned closer. "We'll see about that. He's either going to give me what I want, or he'll lose you forever."

The tension in the room was thick, and Sophie's thoughts raced. She had no idea how much time she had left, but she had to believe in Tony. She had to believe that he would come for her, that he would save her.

---

Back at the mansion, Tony's phone buzzed. A text message from his ally had come through.

"We've located her."

Tony's heart pounded as he read the message. They had found Sophie. Now, it was time to move—before it was too late.

As he grabbed his coat and prepared to leave, the final thought that crossed his mind was clear: He would not let Sophie down. Not this time.

But would he be too late?
