Chapter 78: We've Come to Buy, Not Steal
Maria and Lilah didn't rush down to the town, they instead just waltz down over as if they were taking a walk in their own backyard.
When they passed through the broken down gates, the two noticed that the walls to the right of them had thoroughly collapsed into rubble. It was a pretty thick wall but it had thoroughly collapsed due to Ash's attack.
Maria couldn't understand this concept. She had read plenty of information on the forums regarding the game's structures and buildings so she knew that the only way to topple down a structure like a wall was to use weapons known as Siege Weapons.
They weren't available yet in the game but the craftsman could still see the recipe to build the contraption in the NPC instructor's skill shop. The price was quite astronomical before the Currency Exchange System was implemented but those recipes were now in reach. The player craftsmen only needed to level up their skills and learn the recipe before they were able to use the recipe.
Of course, there were only a few types of recipes currently available in the skill shop but the weapons themselves weren't going to be very useful since currently, there weren't any player-managed cities, towns, or villages.
With the existence of Siege Weapons which served as the only method to destroy a structure like a wall or building, Maria was quite astounded that an NPC's skill was able to function just like a Siege Weapon.
Maria tried sending a [Calamity Cleave] at the walls over on their left, but the skill didn't even graze the wall one bit. It only struck it and that was that.
"Hmmm... maybe it's only limited to NPCs? Nonetheless, this is a nice bit of info~"
"Master, shall we get going?" Lilah quipped up from the side.
"Mhm."
Maria and Lilah proceeded into the town and took a look around. Many of the buildings weren't damaged, but quite a few were thoroughly leveled to the ground. She could see that many of the residents were either hiding inside their homes or just taking shelter outside in some corner.
There were no injured or killed among the ordinary citizens, but Maria did find the bodies of a few vampire soldiers on the way towards the Lord's Manor.
She didn't need to ask directions this time because the manor was quite large and it was on an elevated piece of land so it was quite noticeable. What was also noticeable was that the manor was currently smoke and on fire.
"Ahh, what a pity, tsk, tsk... I hope Ash didn't destroy the place too much. I want too tak—I mean, buy some of their stuff, after all~" Maria said.
"..."
Over by the side, Lilah had her focused on her Master. If lasers could come out of her eyes, there would already be a hole on the back of Maria's head by now.
"Lilah, you're boring a hole on my head~"
"...Ugh..."
By the time the two arrived at the Lord's Manor, the fighting had settled down. The bodies of a few soldiers were strewn around the front lawn of the estate and signs of battle were everywhere. Large craters, holes, upturned earth, and broken down debris were everywhere.
It was literally like someone had dropped a few bombs or rained down mortars here. The only place that wasn't all too damaged was the Lord's Manor. Other than the partly destroyed roof over at the right side of the manor, everything else was in good shape.
Even the fragile glass and the majestic door which was slightly ajar were still well in place. Maria nodded in satisfaction before she skipped over to the manor's door. She slammed wide open both doors and quickly announced her presence, "Ahahaha~ Come and greet your Queen!"
Just inside the manor, Maria saw Ash looking back at her with something—no, someone, in his hands. His fist had just stopped in mid-swing and it looked like he was beating the person in his hands in the face before she had suddenly barged in.
The other 3 vampires were also in mid-attack before they suddenly stopped after she had barged in. Even though they had stopped their attacks, it didn't change the fact that their spells were already conjured and currently flying towards the few Vampire Knights that were their targets.
Maria then saw the attacks land and the knights being blown back or tossed up into the air. Ash quickly tossed the person in his grasp away and lightly bowed to Maria in greeting.
"My Lady, you are here."
"Uhhh, yeah! Uhm... is this a bad time?"
"No, My Lady, any time is never a bad time for you. It's just that, we still haven't finished up here, my apologies."
"Oh...Well, just stop now. Look at them. They're almost dead!"
Ash nodded and gestured at the other 3 vampires. The 3 quickly dashed away from their spot and lined up in front of Maria and knelt before her.
"We have accomplished our mission, Your Highness!"
"...The Queen part was only a joke...Never mind. Good work everyone. Now, where's the baron? I want to buy some stuff from him!"
Ash quickly walked over with the person he had just tossed away earlier and motioned for the 3 vampires once again.
It was like they had some sort of telepathic power and immediately understood what Ash wanted for them to do. They quickly dashed into one of the rooms and each one brought out a table, a chair, and a luxurious couch.
The table and chair were quickly placed in front of Maria and when she was just about to step forward and sit down, the luxurious couch which was brought over by Metil Jahn, the third strongest of the vampires Maria had recruited, was suddenly placed behind her.
Metil looked at her expectantly and bowed while gesturing towards the couch. Maria grinned at him and quickly sat down.
"Hmhm~ this is nice~"
The other two, Theo Lenard and Yura Holden, after placing the table and chair down, quickly went to stand at the side along with Metil. They had their back turned on the manor's guards who were all beaten up on the side, but their killing intent was stilling bearing down on them.
Ash placed the beaten up vampire in his grasp and roughly placed him down on the chair facing Maria.
"Ash, that's no way to treat the master of the town. Be a little more gentle~"
"Yes, my Lady..."
Maria turned her attention towards the vampire in front of her and asked, "I assume you're Baron Glemen?"
"..."
The vampire didn't respond to her and she frowned. Seeing her frown, Ash immediately glared down at the baron and smacked him up the back of his head, nearly sending him flying off of his chair.
The slap had successfully awakened the unconscious vampire and he looked around all startled.
"What? What happened?! Guards, intruders, there are—gah!"
"Quiet down, imbecile. Our Queen is in front of you," Ash menacingly said.
The baron quickly took notice of his attacker who had brutalized him and quickly recalled the trauma. He began shivering but the surprise at finding his previous Master's brother, Ash Garm, was still alive had overtaken his fear.
"L-Lord Garm...h-h-how are you—"
"Are you deliberately ignoring my Master?!" Ash yelled when he noticed the blatant disregard the baron had for Maria.
He once again raised his fist and was about to smash Russo Glemen, but Maria quickly stopped him by clearing her throat.
"Ahem..."
Ash stopped and quickly glared down at Russo Glemen who was already bracing himself for Ash's fist.
After waiting for a while and seeing that he wasn't hit yet, the vampire slowly lowered his arms and finally turned towards the elegant young lady who was sitting in front of him. By just clearing her throat she had quickly subdued Ash, a Vampire Duke who was just below a Vampire Lord, from taking any further actions against him.
Russo remembered the Duke's previous words and recalled that he had stated that the girl in front of him was his Master.
"M-may I ask, who are you, my fair Lady?" Russo greeted with a strained smile. He had to be careful and pick his words wisely since there was a deathly glare bearing down on him from behind.
"Hm, now that I have your attention, we can finally get down to business!"
"B-business?"
"Yes, business! We came here today to buy things from you!"
Russo immediately turned speechless from the young lady's words. She had just waltzed in here with her subordinates and had them break through the town's gates and walls, smash apart his town's guards, nearly obliterated his personal Vampire Knights, and beat him into a pulp, and yet...she was actually saying that they came here to buy? With her power, she could just directly steal everything away from him.
He felt disgruntled at the thought of being robbed, but it wasn't like he could do anything. Maria quickly read the meaning behind the expression on the vampire baron's face and quickly said, "Hey, what are you thinking?"
"Uh?"
"I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that we're here to steal from you!"
"..."
"Hmph! I knew it!"
Maria immediately felt offended and Ash was about to do something again.
"I-I'm sorry! I-I didn't have that intention!"
"Well, whatever...I'll let it slide this time. We did come here to buy and not to steal."
"W-what would you like to buy?"
"Everything!"
"E-everything?"
"Yes, everything! I want everything in your barony, all the materials, food, territory, people—everything!"
"Uuhh...H-how will you pay for all of that?"
"Me pay? Ah, you're mistaken there, it's not me paying, it's you guys who'll be paying~"
"Huh?"
"You'll be paying with your lives~"
"What?!"
