Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 167: Battlefield Spoils

"Everyone, get moving! Transport all corpses not yet affected by the Soul Summoning Skill into the range of the Undead Calamity Array. Also, pick up everything on the ground that can be carried away. Leave nothing behind."

Gu Xi took only a glance at the Skeleton Mage Boss before focusing his attention on the battlefield outside.

Clearing the battlefield is something that needs to be done quickly. After all, other nodes are still under attack, and Gu Xi is unsure when new enemies might arrive at his position.

The newly summoned undead, whether Skeletons or Zombies, seemed ready to do the work without complaint. They were much more coordinated in cleaning up than in battle.

Before long, a large number of intact corpses were dragged into the Undead Calamity Ritual Array.

As Gu Xi had speculated, these bodies, once thrown into the array, were immediately influenced and began transformation based on their conditions.

The ones with more intact flesh turned into Zombies on the spot.

Those with less complete flesh became Skeletons.

The unlucky ones, without even a whole body, had varying outcomes.

With a high enough level or a relatively intact soul, they could transform into Ghosts.

If neither was available, they would only turn into Bone Weapons to arm the newly risen undead.

Of course, due to their incomplete nature, some flesh was left behind when corpses became new undead.

But this flesh quickly turned into black liquid, fully absorbed by the Undead Calamity Array, leaving no trace behind.

This made it much easier for players guarding these nodes—they didn't need to clean up the battlefield, only tally the loot.

Gu Xi, however, was not as fortunate.

He placed the battlefield outside the node he guarded.

While this was safer, the result was that after each battle, he had to send people to clean up the battlefield, sometimes missing good finds left behind.

This forced Gu Xi to personally inspect the battlefield for anything overlooked.

Such actions indeed led Gu Xi to discover some valuable items.

He found two pieces of Baboon Hide of varying quality. One, from a mid-level Commander-type Boss, was well-preserved, of green quality, and served as proof of Gu Xi's defeat of the Otherworldly Ghost Boss.

The other was torn to shreds, with only a baboon's head left when Gu Xi got it. Of course, it was gray and could be used to study the special properties of the baboon hide.

Moreover, since one Boss was transformed into a Skeleton Mage Boss, its original equipment wasn't left intact.

The other Otherworldly Ghost Boss, however, left behind two undamaged pieces of equipment, as Luna hurried back to assist Gu Xi without handling the battlefield.

Compounded with the fact that Gu Xi's Soul Summoning had no effect here, two undamaged pieces of equipment remained.

One was a worn-out hood, resembling those used by standard mages.

But the item's attributes had no connection to mages, instead being favored by Commander-type bosses.

[Blood Brain Hood (Green, Helmet)]

[Defense: 1]

[Equipment Requirement: Intelligence 1]

[Special: Leader—when equipped by a Boss, Hero, or Leader, the number of troops commanded is doubled.]

[Description: This hood looks shabby but enhances your leadership aura.]

Holding the [Blood Brain Hood], Gu Xi pondered seriously—if Di Mi were to replace his Bohemian-style hat with this ragged one, Di Mi would likely be furious.

As for others.

In the end, Gu Xi called upon the Skeleton Boss of Combat Squad 1 and handed him the [Blood Brain Hood].

After all, the Long Spear Skeleton Soldiers were the most capable unit on the battlefield.

Now, Combat Squad 1 could expand its ranks a little.

The other piece of equipment was relatively better for Gu Xi.

It was a somewhat damaged half-human-high basket, containing food that was clearly expired and even somewhat rotten.

But for Gu Xi, this was considered a good item.

[Rotting Endless Food Basket (Green): Provides 100 units of rotten food daily, consumable by undead, temporarily increasing an undead attribute by 1 upon consumption.]

[Description: Gorge yourself—all spirits should at least die full!]

This item was intended for undead consumption, and although the exact amount of 100 units of rotten food was unclear, it was certain that Gu Xi's undead soldiers would love it.

Moreover, on the battlefield, escalating an attribute by 1 was equivalent to an additional life resource, which for Gu Xi, meant a higher chance of victory.

This was decidedly better than obtaining some potions.

"This is a good item. Take it to the city gate."

Gu Xi pointed at the [Rotting Endless Food Basket] and called two Skeletons to move it.

Finally, he joined other Skeletons on the battlefield to search for remaining items.

Initially, Gu Xi thought he would once again find a heap of gray trash or useless white items.

But Gu Xi had no expectation that amongst the trash, he indeed uncovered a valuable object.

It was a small clump of grass that resembled waterweeds.

Initially, Gu Xi paid no heed to this item until he saw it in his hand and realized it was a blue item.

Whether it was due to good luck or some other reason was unclear.

[Killing Water Grass (Blue): Can be placed in the city moat to grow Killing Water Grass. Any enemy entering will be detained in the moat for 30 seconds.]

At first, Gu Xi wondered why water grass, which only detained enemies in the moat, was called Killing Water Grass.

He quickly understood.

The moat's traits need to be included.

According to the architectural design plan Gu Xi obtained, his mote inflicted 3 health damage per second to enemies entering it.

This meant that in 30 seconds, 90 health points would vanish.

Enemies with weaker life force might not even pass the moat, let alone launch an assault.

This was indeed a good thing. It would come in handy once the moat was constructed.

With this thought, Gu Xi casually pocketed the [Killing Water Grass].

He continued examining other items, hopeful that his luck might surge again, possibly yielding one or two more good finds.

However, even upon completing the battlefield cleanup, Gu Xi didn't find any suitable items. He merely organized the gray trash and white materials, packing them to be sent to the city gate for further processing.
