Unappreciated Treasure

Chapter 2: Philipa’s Anger.

Chelsy snatched her hand from Philippa's grip, and said,

"Philippa, I don't care what you think or say about me. Just leave me the hell alone."

She turned around and left with Rachel.

Philippa had an evil smile on her face.

"Chelsy, I will make sure you regret ever coming to this university."

Philippa is very bossy, and uses her status as the only daughter of the Vice Chancellor of Wolverton University to trample on others.

Since she is considered the belle of the university, different boys are swooning over her, and most girls will do virtually anything to be in her good books.

She calls herself the queen bee and expects everyone to be at her beck and call.

One may be wondering why Philippa hates Chelsy so much and will do virtually anything to ensure she goes down.

'Flashback'

Flashback to their first year at university.

Chelsy got to school two weeks after classes had started, and she knew virtually no one on campus.

In her very first class, the lecturer introduced her as the winner of the Franka Gilmore Award, which gave her the scholarship to study at the University of Wolverton.

Wolverton University was meant for the rich and elite. Everyone in class knew that in order to have the Franka Gilmore award, you must be among the smartest.

The students started murmuring among themselves.

Chelsy's face turned red with embarrassment because she was a little shy and had never been the type of person who enjoyed any form of attention focused on her.

The lecturer cleared his throat and said,

'Erm'

"Okay class. That is enough introductions for today. Who was able to come up with an answer to the question I asked last week?"

There was silence in class.

Philippa raised her hand and answered.

The lecturer told her the context in which she answered the question was slightly correct, but she missed the main point.

Suddenly, a boy from the back seat shouted,

"Hey yo."

"Since we have little Miss smart here, why doesn't she answer?"

The lecturer turned to Chelsy.

"Miss Powers, can you try?"

Chelsy's face grew pale, and she started sweating on her palms.

'Oh God, what if I can't answer the question and end up looking like a clown?'

She thought.

Chelsy, with a timid voice, asked the lecturer.

"Sir, what was the question?"

The lecturer repeated the question, and Chelsy answered in the best way she could.

There was total silence and the lecturer responded with a smile.

"Wow, Miss Powers. That was an amazing answer. You answered better than I would have expected. Good job, and keep up."

Philippa furrowed her brows and looked at Chelsy so scornfully.

After that class, Philippa, Emma and Kate met Chelsy at the school canteen.

Philippa looked at Chelsy with eyes spitting out fire.

Listen to me, you this little newbie. I don't care which hole you crawled our from. But make sure you don't step on my toes in this school or else I will make sure you regret it."

They spoke and left.

Chelsy stood there looking lost in thought.

Suddenly, someone tapped her on the shoulder.

When she turned around to see who had tapped her, it was Rachel.

She smiled and introduced herself.

"Hello. My name is Rachel Hannigan. Are you okay?"

Chelsy nodded shyly.

"Hello Rachel. My name is Chelsy Powers."

Rachel smiled back and asked,

"Can I please be your friend"

This was the first person who had been friendly towards Chelsy since she arrived school."

Chelsy nodded with a smile.

"I would love that."

They both smiled at each other, and started hanging out together.

To make matters worse, the school hunk, who was the captain of the school basketball team, Samuel Molando, was interested in Chelsy and wanted her to be his girlfriend.

Chelsy was never interested in him.

Unbeknownst to Chelsy, Samuel was Philippa's crush. When Philippa found out, she and her minions walked up to Chelsy and warned her to stay away from him.

Chelsy told Philippa she was not interested in Samuel, and that Philippa could have him if she wanted.

The next day, Samuel approached Chelsy and asked if they could go to the basketball games together?

She said no and that he should stay away from her. Besides, she didn't want to have issues with Philippa.

Rachel and Chelsy decided to go to the basketball games together.

As the match ended and Wolverton university won, Samuel stood at the center of the basketball court, took off his jersey and wore a white T-shirt with the imprint,

"Chelsy please be my girlfriend?"

Philippa, who was dancing with other cheerleaders, saw this and became even more angry.

Her angry face was as red as a cooked shrimp.

From that day, she swore to be Chelsy's mortal enemy.

Back to present.

After Rachel and Chelsy left the canteen, they separated, and Chelsy stood by the bus stop thinking of how she would go back home later and get another headache with her brother's wife, Melinda.

Melinda is the epitome of wickedness. She and Philippa would make great siblings.

While Chelsy was lost in thought, her phone started ringing. She looked at the caller ID, and it was Melinda calling.

'Oufff'

" She pinched the bridge of her nose, closed her eyes and answered the call.

"Hello Melinda."

Melinda's piercing voice came through the phone.

"Where are you and why are you not at home already?"

Chelsy was a little startled as she could feel her ear drums crying for help.

She let out a heavy sigh and responded.

"I just finished my last class of the day, and I am on my way to work."

Chelsy had a part-time job as a carer at the Cedar house assisted living.

Melinda said in a rude tone.

"You had better cancel those stupid work plans and hurry back home. I have a spa date with my friends, and you need to babysit Fiona."

Fiona was Chelsy's niece, and she loved her with every ounce of fiber in her.

She asked Melinda what happened to the nanny, and she responded in a cold tone.

"Do I have to explain myself to you? You had better make sure you are here in the next thirty minutes."

With a loud humph, Melinda hung up the phone.

Chelsy looked at the dark screen on her phone and was speechless.

'Tsk'

She pressed her lips together, and forced back the tears that were threatening to fall from her eyes.

'Ahem'

She cleared her throat and dialed her manager's number.

The call got connected after two rings.

"Hello Chelsy."

A soft voice came from the other end.

"Hello Claire."

Chelsy answered in a low tone, trying to conceal her pain.

"Why do you sound so down? Are you okay?"

She asked.

Chelsy held the helm of her shirt and asked nervously.

"Claire, can I please call in today for work? There is an emergency at home and my presence is needed. So I won't be able to make it to work today."

Claire who had noticed the sadness in Chelsy's voice, said softly.

"Come on dear child, it's okay to attend to the emergency. I will ask someone to cover for you.So worry not."

'Whew"

Chelsy felt a gush of wind blow through her body, and she was relieved.

"Thank you very much Claire. I will do a full shift tomorrow to cover my being absent today.

Claire said okay and the call ended.

Chelsy got home and the first thing Melinda did was hand Fiona to her.

She spoke in a rude manner.

"Ensure Fiona is well-fed and change her diapers on time."

She eyed Chelsy from head to toe and left without uttering another word.

Chelsy looked at Fiona who was smiling at her and it melted her heart.

She gave Fiona a big hug and said smiling.

"Hey little nugget, I missed you all day. Let's go get your favorite doll and have some fun at the ball pit."

Little Fiona giggled and placed her little head between Chelsy's neck and shoulder, and they both went into her nursery to play.
