Chapter 12: A broken heart.
Back to present.
The tears Chelsy had been desperately holding, started streaming down her cheeks like a river. Her legs felt wobbly as jelly, and they felt as if they would give way, and she would come crashing down.
She looked at Ken desperately seeking for him to tell her it was all a lie. She called out Ken's name in a low and shaky voice. It sounded like a whisper, ''Ken, please tell me this is not true. Please tell me everything Myra said was all a lie.''
The room was as quiet as a graveyard. It was so quiet that if a pin was dropped, one could hear its sound. The cloping and thudding sound of Ken's footsteps could be heard walking towards Chelsy. He bent down and spoke into her ears. ''I am sorry Chelsy, but every good thing must come to an end.''
Then he turned and walked away from her. Chelsy felt a chill run down her spine. She felt as if she had been placed in a burning furnace and there was no way for her to escape. She could feel a ringing noise in her head. All she could do was cry. When Ken turned and saw this, there was a foreign feeling within him that he could not explain.
''I don't love Chelsy, I have never loved her. She was only part of the game. But why do I feel so much pain in my heart when I see her crying like this?''
His face became sullen for a split second, and he quickly snapped out of it. Chelsy cleared her throat and spoke in the middle of sobs.
''Ken, please can you answer these few questions? Did you ever love me? All the time we spent and everything we did together meant nothing to you?''
Ken looked at her with a little sadness in his eyes and said, ''Chelsy, the past is in the past. It was just a game. The person I will be spending my life with is Helena. She is three months pregnant with my baby and our wedding is set for the tenth of next month. I am sorry, but this has to come to an end.''
When Chelsy heard this, her world came crashing. This must definitely be the worst form of pain Chelsy has ever felt. Her heart was bleeding, and her emotions were shattered.
Chelsy dropped to her knees and started crying profusely while holding her chest. ''Ken, how could you do this to me?'' As she spoke, tears kept flowing down her cheeks like a river.
Everyone in the room except for Ken's mother, didn't seem bothered. They kept watching, with slight smiles on their faces as Chelsy drowned herself in pain.
"Can you take this crazy woman out of here?" Helena shouted. Two bodyguards picked Chelsy up by her elbows and dragged her out of the house.
As Chelsy stood in front of Ken's villa crying, Myra walked up to her, sipping from her champagne flute, she said, ''Chelsy Powers, next time, you will learn not to mess with the capitalists. Just some information I think you should know.'' She walked closer to Chelsy and whispered into her ear, "You not being able to attend the Whitemore Foundation exchange program, was my little gift to Philippa." She gave an evil cackle and walked back into the villa.
Chelsy, who was already numb with the pain in her heart, just turned and started walking out of Northern Ridges' neighborhood.
Back at Ken's villa, Emily Robert, who had witnessed everything, walked up to Ken with a furious look and gave him a resounding slap to the face. ''Kenneth, how could you and your sister be so wicked? How could you do such a thing to that poor girl? I am so ashamed of you both. I hope you won't regret this someday.'' She spoke and left the living room.
Emilia's words actually got to Ken. He rushed out of the house to go find Chelsy.
It was the middle of spring, and it had started raining heavily. Ken got into his car and started searching for Chelsy, but he couldn't find her. He took out his phone and tried calling her, but no one answered. ''Damn it Chelsy. Please pick up your damn phone.''
As he kept trying and there was no response, he gave up and returned home.
When he got into the living room, Helena walked up to him and said angrily, ''Ken, what was the meaning of that show you played out here earlier on? Did you actually go out to look for that girl? Let me remind you, I am carrying our baby. Don't even think about calling off this wedding. You know the consequences.''
Ken, who was soaking wet, just looked at Helena and went into his room without uttering a single word.
Myra, who had witnessed the encounter between Ken and Helena, furrowed her brows. She took out her phone and dialed a number. When the call got connected, she said, ''Dawson, make sure you publish that story tonight. Make sure there are no mistakes. You know what the consequences will be if you mess up.'' She spoke and ended the call.
Chelsy, who had been walking aimlessly, didn't know where she was going to. It was raining cats and dogs, but she couldn't feel it because her mind was somewhere else. She had been walking for almost three hours and was exhausted. Her body could not handle the physical and emotional stress. She slumped down with a thud and passed out.
When she opened her eyes, it was already morning. She found herself sleeping on a small bed in a remote house. For a split second, she thought she had been kidnapped again. Then suddenly, an old lady walked into the room, carrying a wooden cup on a little plastic tray. With a smile on her face, she said, ''You are finally awake. Hope you are feeling much better now.''
Chelsy, who was startled at first, relaxed when she saw the warm smile on the old lady's face. "Who are you, and where am I?"
The old lady walked towards the tiny bed and placed the tray on an old coffee table by the bedside. She sat on the bed and said, "You can call me grandma Flora and you are in Derby."
Derby was a small remote village in the western part of Wolverton. ''My grandson and I were on our way back from the neighboring town, and found you lying down in the rain by the roadside. So we brought you here to our home. What is your name, dear child?''
Chelsy looked at her with teary eyes and said, ''My name is Chelsy Powers. Thank you for helping me, grandma Flora.'' The old lady smiled and said, ''have this warm tonic made of herbs and honey. It will help you with the cold and fever, okay?'' Chelsy thanked her and took the cup from her.
Meanwhile, the internet was buzzing with pictures of Samuel carrying Chelsy out of club Q. Samuel's face was blurred, but Chelsy's face was quite visible. The caption read, 'Chelsy Powers, who sleeps around with different men, crashed the engagement dinner of Ken Roberts and Helena Richards.'
Rachel returned from the gym and decided to go through her phone. Her jaws dropped, and her eyes widened when she saw the information posted on social media about her best friend. "What the hell?" She shouted. ''Oh my goodness! Chelsy. I hope you are okay.''
She dialed Chelsy's phone, and it rang for a while before Chelsy answered in a low voice. "Hello Rach." Rachel could not help but ask in a panicked voice ''Chels, are you okay? Where are you?''
Chelsy, who had no idea what was posted on the internet, said in a voice which sounded like a whisper. ''Rach, I am in Derby. Can you please come get me?''
Rachel, who was stunned, asked with a confused look on her face. ''What are you doing in Derby? And when did you get there?'' Chelsy, who was feeling weak from her fever, said in a low voice, ''It is a long story Rach. I will tell you everything when you get here.''
Rachel gave a heavy sigh and said, ''Wait for me, okay? And don't go anywhere. I'll be there as soon as I can.'' She ended the call and rushed into the bathroom for a quick shower.
What will Chelsy do when she gets to know about the slander posted about her on the internet?
