Chapter 199: 197, The welfare home was stunned, donated that much?
"If it's about the goods, they need to be legitimate products from the market. Let me explain – it's not that we..."
"No need to explain!" Luofeng interrupted. "After all, it's for the children's safety. But these things I'm bringing are all branded items from the market, not unlicensed products! As for toys and books? I imagine safety isn't an issue for those, right? Regarding medication, I haven't sent any; that stuff can be quite a hassle."
"Right! It seems Mr. Luo has done his homework in advance, so I won't say more." The female worker smiled in satisfaction. This is what genuine donation looks like! Not like some of those rich second-generation kids who don't understand a thing and just buy whatever to donate. And then they turn around and accuse our welfare institute of being arrogant? These are all poor children, and they're still picky about this and that? Please. This is about the safety of many children. We can't just accept and let them eat whatever someone brings, can we? There are regulations, after all.
"Mm-hmm, the items I've brought this time should all pass inspection! Of course, there's also baby formula and diapers. You have young children there, don't you?" Luofeng said with a smile.
"Yes, we do. And baby formula is expensive; it's something we're really short on. Thank you, Mr. Luo! On their behalf, I thank you!"
"You're welcome." Luofeng chuckled. "I've already entered Xi Pu and should arrive in about fifteen more minutes. There's quite a lot of stuff, so you'll need to be prepared on your end. It's all worth around 400,000!"
"Wha—?" The female worker was dumbfounded. "Is... is this for real?"
"The baby formula is the most expensive part. The other food, drinks, books, and toys come to about 180,000!" Luofeng said with a laugh.
"Thank you, Mr. Luo. We'll be waiting for you. We truly appreciate your kindness!"
"It's nothing. See you in a bit!"
Luofeng hung up after speaking.
Bai Lu, meanwhile, sat quietly in the backseat, listening to Luofeng's conversation. Bai Lu deeply admired Luofeng. From the way he confidently chatted with the supermarket staff to his smooth communication with the people from the welfare institute, she really envied a young man who could speak so well. That was something she herself couldn't do.
「Soon, they arrived at the Rainbow Welfare Institute.」
A girl named Su Yuanyuan was waiting at the entrance, constantly peering down the road. She had already informed several staff members of the welfare institute to prepare for the unloading. Su Yuanyuan paced back and forth, feeling a distinct sense of anxiety as she waited.
But it was only a few minutes before an Audi car appeared, followed by a large truck, and then another Jinbei Van.
Only when she saw the three vehicles did Su Yuanyuan realize this was real and not some prank. After all, such incidents weren't unheard of.
You might find that strange, right? But stranger things have happened. It's not just welfare institutes; even police stations get prank calls. Whether it's pursued or not is another matter. If it is pursued, you could be looking at detention.
"Are you Su Yuanyuan?" Luofeng parked at the entrance of the welfare institute. After getting out, he looked at the girl, whom he'd rate about a seventy in terms of appearance.
To an ordinary person, she was definitely wife material. She could even marry into a family worth several million without much difficulty. Don't underestimate a 70-point appearance. You might go your whole life without ever seeing a real-life goddess who scores over 90.
"Hello, I am Su Yuanyuan. Are you Mr. Luo?"
"Yes, I'm Luofeng!"
"Hello, Mr. Luo! Welcome!"
After exchanging greetings, Luofeng, without further ado, directed the vehicles to park in the welfare institute's open-air parking lot. Luofeng and Bai Lu, naturally, didn't just stand by idly. Even though their help wasn't strictly necessary, Bai Lu still rolled up her sleeves and pitched in.
Once the boxes were unloaded from the vehicles, they needed to be sorted and stored. Several staff members from the welfare institute, along with some of the older children, pitched in to help. It took nearly an hour to get everything organized.
Luofeng was sweating profusely. He wasn't used to manual labor—the only times he usually exerted himself like this were in bed with a woman or at the gym. Still, seeing the children's happy faces made him feel his efforts were truly meaningful.
"Big Brother, wipe your sweat!"
Luofeng quickly took the tissue handed to him by a seven or eight-year-old child. The child seemed quite shy and a little awkward.
"Thank you!" Luofeng said with a gentle smile.
"You're welcome, Big Brother. You've worked hard," the little boy, who had also been helping with the unloading, said sensibly.
Luofeng glanced at Bai Lu. She too was drenched in sweat, her usual fragile, withdrawn demeanor having vanished. She was drinking water handed to her by a little girl. When she returned the water to the little girl, her face was wreathed in a happy smile.
"Student Egret! Let's head inside," Luofeng called out to her.
「It was a little past one in the afternoon.」
Luofeng and Bai Lu experienced lunch at the welfare institute, accompanied by Su Yuanyuan.
"Mr. Luo, Miss Bai, the food at our welfare institute is a bit plain. Please excuse us," Su Yuanyuan said.
Lunch at the children's welfare institute was actually quite decent. There was stir-fried green peppers with meat, boiled cabbage, and stir-fried pumpkin. Although there wasn't much meat in the pepper dish, the meal was still well-balanced nutritionally.
"If the children don't mind it, who are we to complain?" Luofeng said with a smile.
Bai Lu didn't say anything, just ate quietly. She seemed quite hungry and ate a fair amount.
"Excuse me, may I have some more rice?" Bai Lu asked softly.
Su Yuanyuan was startled for a moment, then replied, "Of course. This way, please. I'll take you."
After the two left, a little boy holding a quarter of an apple ran over. He placed it on Luofeng's table and quickly scampered away, then stood a short distance away, watching Luofeng with an expectant look.
Luofeng looked at the little boy and, under his expectant gaze, took a bite. "Thank you, little friend!"
The little boy smiled and left.
Less than ten seconds later, another little boy came over. He placed a toy car beside Luofeng, looking very reluctant as he departed.
Luofeng picked up the toy car and rolled it on the table a few times. Then he stood up, caught up with the child, and returned the toy car. "Thank you, little friend," Luofeng said, crouching in front of him and patting his shoulder. "Here's your car back. I hope you have a happy Mid-Autumn Festival."
The little boy hesitated for a moment before saying, "Big Brother, we had a lot of fun today! I really like the Mid-Autumn Festival!"
"Good, being happy is what matters!" Luofeng said with a smile.
Bai Lu and Su Yuanyuan had returned by then and quietly witnessed this exchange.
"Big Brother, next time... the Mid-Autumn Festival after next... will you come again?" the little boy asked, looking up at Luofeng cautiously. He had truly enjoyed the day, with its mooncakes, apples, and the new toy cars and books.
Luofeng nodded. "Of course, I'll come next year and the year after that. But little buddy, what's your name?"
