Chapter 7: (5/9)
"What's so funny?"
"Jaane, this is a battle tournament. Winning and losing is normal. About being undefeated, did you forget what Arthur had said on my first duel with him? There will and always be someone else stronger. Mister shit head is stronger than me, at least for now. It would be uncanny if I can defeat him. Yea?"
"I suppose so. But you have defeated several Student Master Mages who are stronger than you."
"Ah about that, it was because they looked down on me and refused to go all out. Aber activated his [Mana Infusion] symbolizing that he took me seriously. I highly respected him for that."
"Thank you for looking after me. Mister Hardy didn't mention anything about his arranged marriage when he was giving me a tour around Flumen city."
"Huh? Oh, that. Yeah, no problem. We are friends, aren't we? Sit still." Kain used his right thumb to wipe away some leftover food stuck on Jaane's left cheek.
"Hoh… than… thank you." Jaane blushed as she thanked Kain.
"Not a problem." Kain was smiling while he looked directly into Jaane's eyes.
Jaane saw Sofia was walking back to her seat and she quickly moved away then looked in different directions acting like she wasn't talking to Kain.
In a table not far away. Six men were eating and drinking together. One of them asked, "Now that we have confirmation from those four warriors. Arthur Castillon is the son of High Priest Faringray, should we proceed as planned?"
"We have to proceed. Our customers wouldn’t be happy if we back out after accepting their mission." Another man answered.
"What if his mother found out?"
"It's not like we are going to kill him. Worst case scenario, we will be imprisoned for several years."
"You are right. Or we can just leave Bifjorkian Theocracy and move to another nation where the High Priest can't do anything to us." Other men nodded in agreement.
After the dinner was over, Arthur paid the bill in full amount. Arthur was about to leave the tip money but Kain stopped him and said, "Weakling, the Skeletons don't need your tip money. They work for free, remember?"
"Right. But what about the hostess?"
"What about her? All she did was walk us to the table and explain to us about the Skeletons."
"But-"
"Is the hostess prettier than Adela?"
Adela was talking to Rosa as she heard Kain asked Arthur about if the hostess was prettier than her. Adela stopped walking and then pretended to check for something inside her robe while giving Rosa the hand signal to tell her kept on walking. Adela raised her ears waiting for Arthur to answer.
"No, of course not. Adela is the prettiest girl I have ever seen." Arthur quickly answered without hesitation.
Adela was very happy with Arthur’s answer, she caught up to Rosa and continued talking to her about girls’ stuff.
"There you go. What's the point of tipping her then? Let's go." Kain dragged Arthur away as he said that.
After they left the restaurant, the group of six men who were talking about Arthur earlier secretly followed. After about half an hour of walking, Kain told the group, "Ah crap, I forgot something at the restaurant. Go ahead. I will see you guys back at the hotel."
"Do you want me to go with you?" Sofia asked.
"No, I will be right back." Kain answered while running toward the direction back to Running Skeleton restaurant.
The students of Nosh and Vincenzo looked at each other in confusion because they didn't know what Kain could have forgotten at the restaurant. They shrug their shoulders and then continue walking back to the hotel.
Kain found a dark alley nearby and ran in there. After confirming no one is around, Kain took the Storage Ring hidden inside his boot and dropped it on the floor. The Storage Ring became a storage chest. Kain opened the storage chest, took a bag full of coins, one of the Magical Blood Dagger, and hid the dagger inside his robe while keeping the coin bag hanging out of his pants. After that, Kain ran back toward the group of six men and 'accidentally' pumped into them. He fell on the ground while a bag full of coins fell out. Several gold coins could be seen from the bag. Kain quickly grabbed the bag and put it back inside his robe then yelled at one of the men, "Hey fool, watch it! Do you know who I am?"
The man was about to yell back but another man stopped him. Kain sneered at them and said, "Your friend did the right thing by stopping you. You do not want to mess with me." Kain walked away from them but then he softly whispered, "Ah crap, gotta pee first." Kain ran inside a nearby dark alley and attempted to take a piss.
"Why did you stop me? That boy was unreasonable."
"I saw him at the battle tournament today. He was the Conjurer Mage that took out two Mages of Flumen in the semi-final."
"That’s right. I remember now. Hey, so what?"
"He was killed and revived. As you know, Mages who were killed and revived could not cast magic for a month."
"So?"
"Didn't you see the bag full of coins? I saw several gold coins but what if he had the whole bag full of gold coins?"
"Do you mean...?"
"Yes. We're gonna kill him, hide his body, steal the bag of coins, and leave this country. No one will ever know it's us."
"What about Arthur Castillon?"
"Twelve gold coins versus a full bag of gold coins. Do your math."
"Right."
"He ran into a dark alley to take a piss, it's perfect timing for us. No one is nearby right now, understand?" Five other men nodded to show that they had understood.
The group of six men quietly sneak behind Kain when he was 'taking a leak'. Each of them took out two hidden knives they have carried and fiercely stabbed Kain on the back. Kain faded away because it was his [Shadow Clone].
