[TS] Obsessed Gamer: The Ultimate Return

Chapter 464

Kassadin is a champion that holds significant meaning in the history of Legends of League.

The original OP champion.

A champion that was a guaranteed ban in solo queue.

The promised Kassadin.

At the time of release, Kassadin was adorned with elements like targeting silence and an overwhelmingly long ultimate range compared to now, making him a so-called OP champion.

Of course, that’s all in the past, and the current Kassadin, while having potential, has such fundamental weaknesses that he’s not often picked, except when he gets huge buffs.

But what does it mean for such a pick to show up in a situation like this?

Basically, Kassadin is a scaling champion, so he’s weak in early laning.

Sure, there are times when the situation allows Kassadin to smile despite that weakness, but if the opponent is the notoriously strong Orianna in lane, that’s different.

Some might say Kassadin is a good counter to AP champions like Orianna, but when the jungle is also playing a weak early game champion like Rakan?

It was no different than begging to be killed while slicing the belly at SY.

It wasn’t for nothing that Baek Seong-an said they crossed the line.

[Kassadin]

Kassadin’s pick has been locked in.

It proves that pick wasn’t just to provoke us or a prank.

[“Huh……”]

[“Wow, they’re picking Kassadin.”]

That choice particularly made me think, because it didn’t have to be Kassadin.

Despite there being picks like Aurelion Sol that carry much lower risk and don’t lose value against Orianna, they still chose to go with Kassadin.

Is it arrogance or confidence?

Well, I guess we’ll find out after this game.

[“They sure think of Getback as a pushover. Please discipline him, bro.”]

[“……Jaem-min, this voice is being transmitted.”]

[“I know?”]

[“I didn’t say anything.”]

I earnestly hoped this conversation wouldn’t get transmitted as the ban/pick continued.

[Barus]

SY’s third pick was a bit more standard than the earlier ones.

There weren’t many options to counter the Senna-Tahm Kench lane in the current meta.

There were ways to take Tahm Kench away, but often, such bottom lane bans would backfire, making this a more conventional choice.

But why did it feel off?

It wasn’t a weird pick, but given the previous ones, it felt unexpected instead.

It was like normality within the absurdity.

Then it was our turn for the third pick.

[“Since there are many jungler bans, it might be better to secure a jungler. Yujin, what do you think? If we get more jungle bans later, we might have problems.”]

“No, I think I’ll go down south.”

[“Hmm, are you sure?”]

“Yes. I think it’s better to pick after reviewing the overall bans and picks.”

[“Then let’s do that. I’ll secure Tahm Kench. I think that’s better. Ji-hoon, do you want to take it?”]

“Yes.”

[Tahm Kench]

Thus, the first three picks of both teams ended.

It felt like we had seen some rare picks, even though it was just a ban/pick phase.

[“So, what should we ban?”]

Currently, SY has left to pick a Support and a Top.

It was possible that Kassadin could go to the top, but considering that would actually be a good thing for us, it was better not to think about it.

[“Since we’re going to be the last pick, I think it’d be better to ban from the support side.”]

“Let’s start with a ban from the support side.”

In the current meta, Senna-Tahm Kench is a toxic bot lane combo with practically no counters.

If there was one way to counter such a combo, it would probably be a strong damage support that can dominate early lane.

[“Okay. So, Ji-hoon, what do you think would be a good ban from the support side?”]

“I think champions like Ash or Caitlyn will work well since Barus is our ADC.”

[“Let’s go with that.”]

[Ash]

Our first ban is Ash.

And just like that, SY immediately decided on their next ban.

[Belveth]

What can I say about this…?

It’s so blatant that it’s hard to even think about it anymore.

[“As expected, here it comes.”]

“It’s fine. I wasn’t planning on using her anyway.”

[“Then it might be better to ban another Support, Ji-hoon. What else do you think would be good?”]

“I think we can just ban Caitlyn as it is.”

[“Okay.”]

[Caitlyn]

And SY’s last ban was determined.

This time too, it was a swift ban as if waiting for it.

[Lee Sin]

It was our turn to pick.

The Red team’s 5th pick is practically reserved for the top, so now it’s time to pull out a jungle pick.

[“Sister, what are you picking? Isn’t it jungle?”]

“Can you pick top first, please?”

Usually, junglers don’t get the 5th pick.

It’s generally common to give the Red team 5th pick for top, where matchups are crucial.

But this time, I want to bear the courage to be hated.

If I lose the game after picking Red 5th, it’s entirely my fault.

[“Hmm, then I’ll take K’Sante. That seems solid for a standard pick.”]

“Okay. Thanks.”

[K’Sante]

SY took a risk this game by picking Kassadin.

But ironically, we also countered that with a risky Red top pick.

Both SY and we know it.

It’s not easy to win against the opponent simply by playing normally.

Now it’s the opponent’s turn for 4th and 5th picks.

This time, we’ll learn all of SY’s intentions.

[Ornn]

[Shyvana]

SY’s composition has been revealed.

SY came with a typical engage composition by sacrificing the bottom lane.

They must have known that a dive comp is at a disadvantage against compositions of Orianna, Senna, and Tahm Kench.

[“What’s that? Is he really picking Shyvana support? He’s going too far today. Let’s teach them a lesson, Ji-hoon.”]

[“……Keep it down.”]

[“Okay.”]

Baek Seong-an said.

[“Doesn’t this mean we’re in a good spot?”]

Whether the ban/pick got tangled up or if there was another ploy, it seemed good for us nonetheless.

Now all that’s left is for our 5th pick.

[“Yujin, what are you going to do?”]

“Hmm.”

Actually, I’m pretending to think, but I already know what I’m doing.

I’ve known since the start of this game.

Especially since the opponent’s composition is so extreme, there’s a perfect pick to throw out.

“Give me Kayn.”

[“Yes.”]

Baek Seong-an said somewhat worriedly.

[“Are you sure?”]

“It looks like the perfect moment to pick him.”

[“I think so too, but… I’m not sure if we can hold if you don’t engage early.”]

“I believe in you.”

[“Well, if you say that…”]

“Bro, you’re not scared, are you? No way, right?”]

[“……Shut up, Jaem-min.”]

[Kayn]

And finally… the ban/pick phase has concluded.

+

[SY / OLZ]

Top: Ornn / K’Sante

Jungle: Rakan / Kayn

Mid: Kassadin / Orianna

ADC: Barus / Senna

Support: Shyvana / Tahm Kench

Overall, SY’s composition feels like a strong engage dive composition.

On the other hand, our team has several picks suited to counter such a dive comp, so the ban/pick phase didn’t seem bad for us.

There’s a saying.

Historically, if bizarre bans/picks are made, it’s either an overwhelmingly strong team or a weak one.

If someone were to ask whether SY leans more toward the former, it would definitely be the case, but even so, it’s hard to say if those bans/picks are good.

Still, we cannot afford to be complacent because we’re up against SY.

[“Alright, let’s do our best.”]

[“Fighting!”]

The game officially began.

*

“……”

At the moment I saw the jungle Kayn pick, Rainbow was reminded of an old memory for some reason.

-Prisoner: Just trust me, he’s really good.

-Rainbow: Sure, if you’re on my team, I’m in. lol

-Prisoner: I’m telling you it’s really good.

Back in the days when I played games with Prisoner a lot, he quite liked the pick of Kayn.

Indeed, for Prisoner, who had slight weaknesses on the physical side, the champion Kayn suited him quite well.

After all, due to the simplicity of the skill set, delicate control was barely meaningful.

Furthermore, with great scaling, once he grows, he showcases an insane level of team fight destruction that is Kayn.

Yet, even so, Rainbow never particularly liked playing Kayn alongside Prisoner.

The champion Kayn primarily feeds off the lifeblood of his teammates, and in that regard, he could be considered the worst among junglers.

But what could the appearance of Kayn at this timing mean?

“……This is interesting.”

[“What did you say?”]

“Nothing.”

The second set began.
