Chapter 20
After achieving victory against the Showdown, I played a few more games in Solo Queue.
I wasn’t paying any attention to the broadcast except for throwing out a comment or two here and there during the game.
…I did sneak a peek at the chat sometimes, but I made sure not to show it on the surface.
About four hours had passed since I turned on the broadcast.
[Live]
[Current Viewers – 8623]
With nothing to do while matchmaking, I checked the viewer count and felt something was off.
When I started the broadcast, there were about 6400 viewers, and the last time I checked, it was around 6700.
Now, the viewer count had surpassed 8600.
Even if the shocking fact that the Unknown Yone Master was a woman was revealed,
it was nearly impossible for this time slot to have over 8000 viewers.
This kind of thing could only happen to renowned streamers and BJs.
Confused by the situation, I opened a browser window outside the broadcast screen.
What caught my eye immediately was a post related to me plastered on the main page.
Everywhere I looked, it was all about me, and each time I read a post linked to me, I felt a strange tingling sensation somewhere in my body.
I wondered if other community sites were in the same state.
Swallowing hard, I opened another community site and felt that something was off.
‘What the heck…’
I just couldn’t understand.
Why were there 8600 people watching my broadcast?
Was my broadcast energy that good?
No, it was just a couple of mumblings over the past two hours.
Was I dominating League of Legends?
That’s true, but there were plenty of other talented streamers and BJs out there.
Just because I was doing well, there was no reason for so many viewers to flock here.
Was it because I was a female Challenger?
Even then, there had been other female Challengers before me.
In fact, there was the first and only female Challenger with decent looks.
Of course, that had drawn attention back then, but the flames of interest had extinguished quite quickly.
As I tried to think of various reasons to make sense of my current situation, my head started to spin.
To clear my chaotic mind, I scrolled through the community posts.
I came across all sorts of bizarre comments about me.
Saying my voice was authoritative and sexy.
Comment threads longing for the queen’s condescending tone whenever I scolded.
People saying they loved the gap moe of me speaking formally most of the time but switching to informal when angry.
It was all such strange stuff, but there were also plenty of normal comments saying I was skilled with Yone.
‘Is my voice that good?’
Since turning female, I hadn’t once thought about my voice.
To be honest, even before turning female, I hadn’t paid much attention to it.
As I pondered this notion about my voice, a match was found.
After clicking the accept button, I brought Yone’s portrait right up.
Then, during the ban phase, I banned the champion I hated the most, Zoe.
Having just started broadcasting, I was pretty thirsty, so I stood up to grab a drink.
“I’m going to get a drink.”
I vaguely mentioned my reason for leaving before stepping out.
I went down to the first floor, opened the fridge, and pulled out a cold barley tea.
Having secured the barley tea, I returned to my room on the second floor and felt something was off.
“…Yone got banned, huh?”
While I was getting the barley tea, the opponent had banned Yone.
Well, it wasn’t entirely surprising.
Yone had been boosted thanks to the OP item, Goredrinker.
So, it wasn’t strange that Yone got banned either.
[Of all times to ban Yone]
[Can Barcode play other champions?]
[Is Barcode going to dodge like other one-trick masters?]
I glanced at the incoming chat messages.
Most of them were about how I would dodge since Yone had been banned.
But guess what? I had no intention of dodging at all.
I scrolled down and selected ‘that’ champion from the middle of the champion list.
-Death is like the wind. Always by my side.
[Yasuo?]
[Barcode’s Yasuo first pick… This is intriguing.]
[Is the Wandering Swordsman watching?]
[Yasuo ntr lol]
[But is Yasuo any good?]
The viewer reaction to my Yasuo first pick was hot.
Which made sense; no matter how skilled I was with Yone, people would get bored seeing the same thing over and over.
Just as viewers were beginning to tire of Yone, the Unknown Yone Master picked Yasuo?
It was only natural that the reaction was so heated.
Setting up Yasuo’s runes, I quietly said,
“I may not be as good as the Wandering Swordsman, but I can handle him.”
[The sister who knows how to handle brothers…]
[Heh…]
[Has she finally gone crazy?]
[A sister who knows how to handle brothers, laughs]
[But she actually handles them well.]
[Info) Barcode’s Yasuo first game]
[The allied first pick Yasuo? How can they endure this?]
Like the viewers said, it was indeed my first game with Yasuo.
At least on this account, that was true.
‘Since I’ve played a lot in the past.’
Besides this account known as the Unknown Yone Master,
I had played Yasuo on other accounts and actually handled him rather well.
The last time I took a break from targeting others, I used Yasuo to rank up the Nayun account to Grandmaster.
And presently, Yasuo was one of the champions that could maximize the effects of the OP item, Goredrinker.
Of course, Yasuo was significantly harder to play than Yone.
But ultimately, both Yone and Yasuo shared similar skill mechanisms.
And I was a master who could handle Yone to the fullest.
Picking Yasuo, the opposing mid-laner chose Katarina.
Considering the match-up between Katarina and Yasuo, there was no reason for her to pick Katarina after I had picked Yasuo.
At the very least, Yasuo didn’t have a losing matchup against Katarina.
In fact, it was more advantageous for Yasuo, so it certainly wasn’t a disadvantage.
Both sides made their picks, and before long, the game began.
*
Carnet was one of the most famous Katarina masters.
Among the masters, he had the highest recognition and was also the one who established Katarina’s item build.
However, with the addition of numerous new items, it became necessary for Katarina to redefine her item build as well.
Throughout the day, Carnet researched the new item build for Katarina and eventually came to one conclusion.
Katarina, who had relied solely on AP assassin builds, now needed to invest in AD items.
With the on-hit effect being applied to Katarina’s key skills E and ultimate, it was no longer fitting for her to rely on AP.
Thus, Carnet devised a bizarre item build that included the Ruined King – Kraken Slayer,
and the destructive power of this odd build turned out to be even greater and more overwhelming than expected.
Having tasted the power of the new item build, Carnet could sense that
this patch would be the season where AD Katarina ran rampant, making a name for herself.
…Or so he thought.
[You’ve been defeated by the enemy!]
That was until he encountered the Yasuo with outstanding mechanical prowess.
*
The opponent Katarina was a well-known name, Carnet.
He was known as the father of Katarina, and as such, he perfectly handled Katarina.
But the difference in skill level wasn’t enough to ignore the difference in matchups.
If my skill was 10, Carnet’s skill was about 9.
The matchup was already not favorable, and given he was below my skill level, it was only natural for me to demolish him in the laning phase.
[You’ve slain the enemy!]
This made for five solo kills.
Having completed two cores in the laning phase, getting solo kills was much easier than eating cake.
The situation was so in my favor and decidedly unfavorable for Carnet’s Katarina.
“Ruined King?”
In the meantime, I couldn’t help but express my doubts upon spotting the item that the Katarina had built as her first core item.
Typically, Katarina, being an AP assassin, would usually build AP items.
Yet here was Carnet, known as the father of Katarina, who opted for the AD item Ruined King as his first core.
[Katarina is getting Ruined King lol]
[Isn’t this trolling?]
[But he’s up against Carnet here.]
[Maybe he picked Ruined King because E and Ultimate have on-hit effects.]
[AD Katarina has crossed the line.]
opinions began to divide in the chat regarding Carnet’s choice of building Ruined King as his first core item.
A brawl broke out in the chat, where people were fighting amongst themselves about it, and I felt a surge of irritation.
It wasn’t a broadcast I wanted to enjoy, but I really didn’t like the idea of other people arguing about someone who had nothing to do with me.
If they were fighting about me instead, it wouldn’t have bothered me as much.
“If you keep arguing, I’m going to end the broadcast.”
When I warned in a subdued voice, those who had opened the brawl in the chat stopped.
Only then did I feel a slight relief, but the irritation didn’t completely dissipate.
So I made sure to chase down the enemies at every opportunity and kill them without mercy.
Especially that Katarina, who was the source of this mess, was my main target.
Every time she came into lane, I followed behind the minions to kill her.
If she passed through the jungle, I ambushed in bushes along her path to kill her.
Eventually, after a lot of killing, the time soon came when Katarina reached 10 deaths.
[This is a bit much.]
[Kill me already!]
[What on earth did Katarina do?]
[Unforgivable… unforgivable… unforgivable…]
[What sort of resentment to make you kill her like that?]
[Heh… It’s a reward if I get killed by Barcode’s sister…’]
As the game neared its end, the mood in the chat was the complete opposite of before.
All the comments that were praising and criticizing Carnet’s Katarina had vanished, replaced only by comments expressing sympathy for her.
In the meantime, as I banned a viewer who seemed to have lost their senses, I spoke with a tone laced with laughter.
“You got banned by me, so that’s a reward. Anyone else want a reward?”
[Whoa.]
[Heh… I also want a reward…] – (Message Deleted)
[Look, they just got cut off before they could even see the chat lol.]
[What was that reaction speed?]
[Something just happened there.]
[Something was there, and then it wasn’t.]
With each message requesting a ‘reward,’ I dropped them too.
Even while paying attention to the broadcast, the game had turned into complete chaos.
There were no more surprises, and the game ended with my Yasuo hard carrying us to victory.
‘I’m exhausted…’
Playing while broadcasting had tired me out mentally rather than physically.
If I did it thoughtlessly, I could continue broadcasting for longer,
but more than the broadcast, I needed a break to soothe my worn-out mind.
“I’m going to end today’s broadcast here.”

[?]
[All of a sudden?]
[Don’t go!!]
[Sister… don’t abandon me… Sister… don’t abandon me… Sister… don’t abandon me…]
[?]
[Where are you going!!!]
[I have to play at least five more games!]
Ignoring the reactions in the chat, I immediately hit the broadcast end button.
Since the Wandering Swordsman had said they would stream for a few hours exactly, I wasn’t bound to stay on for long.
Even if it mattered, if I said I was tired and ended the broadcast, that was enough.
“A lot of friend requests came in…”
I usually got friend requests on this account often, but the fact that I was live streaming had drawn in way more friend requests than usual.
I really disliked anything obstructing my view, so I rejected each friend request individually.
After I had sorted through the friend requests for a while,
I spotted a username I was familiar with.
[The Lonely Gourmet has sent a friend request.] – [Accept]
“…Curry?”
It was a friend request from the account of Curry.
Should I accept it or not? I pondered but ultimately decided to accept the friend request.
The empty friend list now included the online status of The Lonely Gourmet.
I opened the messenger and sent a message to The Lonely Gourmet.
IlilIililI: What’s going on?
The Lonely Gourmet: Oh, I’m the streamer known as Curry. I found today’s broadcast by Barcode impressive.
IlilIililI: I know. You’re famous, Curry.
The Lonely Gourmet: Since you know, I’m honored. I was just wondering if it would be alright if…
What on earth could he be wanting to take so long to type?
Being patient, I waited for Curry’s next message.
The Lonely Gourmet: …Could we perhaps do a collab stream together?
