Chapter 41:
“The Black Sun Cult? The pests are here. ”
Olivia sighed.
She knew how terrifying a real cult was. Her own was not one of them!
“Yes, we clashed with them. They attacked first. Curtis was burned by the flames. I used my weapon to interfere with them and barely escaped.”
Bernard’s eyes were slightly red.
“This is the second stage of the Pyrolyte spirituality, the ability of the Burning Sons. They can control a strange flame that burns slowly and continuously until it burns everything…”
Lin’s face was cold as she spoke of what she had seen and heard. “It is useless to use ordinary medicine and water. It can only be removed with the power of ritual and spirituality!”
“If that’s the case, I can try.”
Olivia had been systematically taught in the Barren Wood Cult. As far as the study of ritual was concerned, she was much more profound than Lin.
“That’s not the main problem now. Those black dogs have already extended their claws here. I won’t allow it. This is the city of our Lord!”
Lin gritted his teeth.
“Don’t be rash, Lin. We need more information … But if there’s only a second stage Burning Son and no powerhouse we could try.”
Olivia comforted her.
Most Beyonders, until they reached a certain stage, still had vital points on their bodies that could be killed by firearms and other weapons.
And this was their home!
“This place is already far away from the Black Sun Cult. The High Priest won’t pay too much attention.”
Aaron thought for a moment and left the shop. He wanted to investigate on his own.
After all, it had not been easy to establish the cult. If it was destroyed, it would depend on luck to find a suitable candidate.
“They won’t find me anyway. I’m the best monitor.”
Aaron walked in a direction based on the information he had just heard.
…
On the other side of town.
Mas took out an expired can, pried open the seal and fished out the meat inside. He took a bite and tossed it aside with disdain.
Smack!
The metal can fell to the floor. A little girl who looked like a scavenger’s eyes lit up. She scrambled to grab the can and retreated into the crowd.
In front of Mas was a base of survivors. There were about 30 people, including some old people and children.
Mas looked over and a woman quickly pulled the girl into her arms.
The little girl didn’t care about anything else and started digging out the meat with her hands. After taking a bite, she sent another piece into her mother’s mouth.
“Not bad …”
Mas did not pursue the matter. Instead, he thought to himself with satisfaction, “They will be a good source of fuel. Perhaps after another sublimation ritual, I will be able to become an important figure, second only to the High Priest.
He stood up and looked at the frightened crowd with a warm smile on his face. “Do not be afraid. We, the Black Sun Cult, are not an evil organisation. On the contrary, we have brought salvation… and extraordinary power!”
Looking at the few men who were obviously tempted, Mas said proudly, “Did you see the flames just now? If you join us, you can have that power too! ”
His expression became serious as he loudly proclaimed: “My Lord [Black Sun] is the Lord of Darkness, the Immortal Sun, the only salvation in this world!”
“Only by adhering to the path of darkness can we get closer to him!”
“And I will lead you through the gates of darkness!”
After a series of sermons, Mas left the shelter satisfied. Two Black Sun members followed hastily behind him.
“My Lord’s speech is almost as good as the High Priest’s.”
The red-haired Rem praised, “I really want to see what those firewood will look like when they burn… My lord, if you gain their spirituality, you might be able to become an Immortal, or even try to complete your task…”
“The consumables for the eclipse ritual are too terrifying.” Mas reprimanded, “Besides … I know what you are thinking. Using meditation and breathing techniques to stimulate spirituality is too slow. You want to gain spirituality as soon as possible and get ahead of the Unburners?”
Mas looked at the two frightened men and sneered inwardly. He had seen through them completely.
In the Black Sun Cult, even the core ‘Unburnt ones’ could be used as firewood.
But at the level of the Burning Sons, it was much better.
Last time, even the high priest’s eclipse ritual did not touch a single Burning Son. Apart from the fact that they were unsuitable, it was also because they were the backbone of the cult, the middle class.
And the Black Sun Cult had no shortage of secret techniques for plundering the spirituality of lower-level Beyonders.
This made the Unburners feel very insecure, and they tried every means to get ahead.
Strangely enough, even with such harsh rules, the Unburners rarely betrayed their own kind.
“Rem, that team just claimed to belong to a Light of Salvation force. We need to investigate!”
Mas thought for a moment and gave a mission, “Also… Don’t forget what the High Priest told us. Track down this Lin. We need to capture her and sacrifice her!”
“Isn’t she just a girl?” Rem muttered, “Even if she’s very powerful…”
“Not only that, the high priest even suspects that she’s the one favoured by the great enemy of our Lord. If we can sacrifice her to our Lord, perhaps he will bless us!
A hint of ruthlessness flashed in Mas’ eyes. If possible, he wanted to sacrifice her himself. Then perhaps there would be no need for firewood. The Black Sun would immediately raise his rank!
“Our Lord’s … great enemy?” Rem’s voice trembled, “What kind of evil god is that?”
“The moon is her incarnation, and blood is her domain… I can’t say her full honourable name, so I can only use ‘Mother Tree of Flesh and Blood’… Remember, every believer in the moon is our mortal enemy!”
Mas’ attitude was unprecedentedly serious.
…
Aaron was next to Mas and heard everything, “It’s really just an expansion team, but I didn’t expect there to be a mission to capture Lin.”
He shook his head and looked at the cultists, “Unfortunately … Eyke isn’t here. Wait, that boy might have been implicated and sacrificed after the last time.”
“And these people, even if I save them and cleanse them of corruption, they might still worship the Black Sun. Simply put, they are deeply poisoned and cannot be saved!”
Aaron felt that Lin’s prayer was correct to a certain extent.
He was indeed the symbol of rationality and free will!
For those Beyonders who had not yet lost their sense of self, his grace was salvation, the radiance of rationality.
But for those believers who had completely surrendered their faith to a terrifying existence, they had long since surrendered their free will. Their minds had been subtly altered under the influence of the Church, and there was basically no possibility of salvation.
