Chapter 42 Have a Full Meal Before Hitting the Road
"Brother, are you okay?" Gao Fei stepped forward and punched Li Teng in the chest.
"Not really, the time is almost up, I came to say goodbye to you guys." Li Teng pursed his lips and his complexion was deathly pale as he seemed to be repressing his inner emotions.
"It's nothing serious, we all have to face this day sooner or later." Gao Fei comforted Li Teng.
Li Teng didn't say anything further and walked over to the coffee machine, got himself a cup of free coffee, then sat down at the table at his seat.
There was another high stool there, probably not the one he had moved earlier.
But that didn't matter anymore.
"Little brother, what's your name? I never got to ask." The girl initiated a conversation with Li Teng.
The female office worker and the Sunglasses Woman also looked at Li Teng with a very sympathetic gaze.
"Li Teng, Mu Zi Li, the Teng from Shen Teng." Li Teng responded to the girl.
"Your sense of humor is indeed somewhat like Shen Teng's," said the female office worker with a smile.
"Really? I never consider myself funny." Li Teng shook his head.
"Big brother Li, is the coffee really that good? Did you used to like drinking coffee a lot?" The girl continued to ask Li Teng, apparently curious about him.
"No, I never drank coffee before. The only reason I'm drinking so much now is that it's free. I came here without eating anything, and I'm still hungry! The coffee at least staves off the hunger a bit," Li Teng explained to the girl.
"You came here without eating anything? You must be so hungry! Why don't you use some points to exchange for some food?" the girl asked on.
"I wish I could exchange for some food, but my account balance is zero points, and since I'm not a newbie anymore, I can't even get credit. How can I buy food without points? The three plates of snacks provided for free by the crew were also eaten by that Glasses Man, and now I'm still hungry. Looks like I'm really going to become a Hungry Ghost." Li Teng sighed heavily.
Glasses Man was chatting with Pretty Boy, but one ear caught what Li Teng had just said, and it really got under his skin.
This guy's about to die, and he's still trying to put the blame on him, saying he ate the three plates of snacks.
How can someone be so shameless?
Forget it, be the bigger person, don't stoop to argue with a dead man.
Having made peace with the situation, Glasses Man continued to chat up Pretty Boy with a sycophantic tone.
Over here Gao Fei, after hearing what Li Teng had said, quickly got up and ran to a nearby restaurant to buy six steamed buns for Li Teng. He was also strapped for cash, his meals in Film and Television City limited to steamed buns.
Now, him mustering up two points to buy Li Teng six steamed buns was quite generous.
Of course, he also threw in six strands of shredded radish.
"It's been a long time since I ate meat," Li Teng lamented as he looked at the six steamed buns.
Though he had also eaten six steamed buns when he arrived, steamed buns really didn't fill him up. The six steamed buns disappeared into his stomach as if a bottle of water had been poured into the desert, his starved stomach had long since digested those six steamed buns.
A person can't eat just steamed buns when starving, can they?
A person who is about to leave, can't they eat something good?
Gao Fei was about to get up again to see if the restaurant had any cheap meat dishes, but Li Teng stopped him with a hand.
"Don't! Brother, I was just speaking off the cuff. Don't waste points on me, and besides, I know you can't afford meat. The steamed buns are fine, as long as I'm not a Hungry Ghost before I go."
Accompanied by the shredded radish, it didn't take long for Li Teng to wolf down all six steamed buns.
Patting his stomach, Li Teng felt finally not so hungry anymore.
"Haven't had your fill? Eat up before hitting the road!"
No one noticed that Sunglasses Woman had left a moment ago, and now she was back, holding a plastic bag which she tossed to Li Teng after returning to the coffee table.
Upon opening the plastic bag, a delicious aroma wafted out.
Inside was actually a whole roast chicken!
"This roast chicken... must have cost a few points, right? I'm about to leave, investing in me now is pointless," Li Teng reminded Sunglasses Woman.
"It's for you, just eat it," Sunglasses Woman replied indifferently to Li Teng.
Although they had only met briefly twice, Li Teng's wisdom and carefree personality had made a deep impression on her. A roast chicken cost eight points, and Sunglasses Woman giving her points away for Li Teng to have the chicken wasn't because she had feelings for him, but rather she simply admired him and thought it would be a pity for him to just die off like that.
"What's your name?" Li Teng asked Sunglasses Woman.
"You don't need to know, it's pointless even if you did," Sunglasses Woman didn't want to answer the question.
"This roast chicken is something you offered me voluntarily! It's not like I tricked it out of you! After I've eaten it, don't come after me," Li Teng declared to Sunglasses Woman.
"Yes, eat up!" Sunglasses Woman replied to Li Teng, slightly annoyed.
"Then I won't stand on ceremony," Li Teng immediately picked up the roast chicken and started to devour it hungrily.
Seeing Gao Fei and the young girl ogling the chicken, Li Teng hesitated for a moment then tore off two chicken legs and gave one to each of them.
Both were too embarrassed to accept and handed them back to Li Teng.
A condemned man's final meal of meat, courtesy of Sunglasses Woman, how could they have the heart to eat it?
Seeing their politeness, Li Teng didn't insist, and soon he had polished off the entire chicken to the bone.
"Meat sure is delicious!" Li Teng belched contentedly, patting his stomach.
Trapped on the top of the stone pillar for so many days, this was the first time he had eaten his fill, and it even included meat!
It felt incredibly satisfying.
"Why hasn't Old Witch come back yet?" the female office worker looked toward the street corner, somewhat puzzled.
"Right, the scene's done and she's still out there. Why is it taking so long?" Sunglasses Woman was also curious.
Pretty Boy seemed to realize something was off too. He got up and walked around the street corner, then came back looking confused.
Then everyone turned to look at Li Teng.
"Why are you looking at me? I'm not really sure either," Li Teng shook his head, then he picked up his coffee cup, ready to get some free coffee.
"Li Teng!" The female director walked out from the coffee shop and called out his name.
"Director, I'm here," Li Teng quickly sat back down.
Everyone else stopped talking and turned their attention to the director.
This was the first time these Actors had heard the director call an Extra by name since they started acting.
"For the next performance, tone it down a bit, don't be too violent. Even if you have grievances against some Actors, there's no need to smash their heads with a High Stool until they're almost flattened like pancakes on the ground! Doing that wastes a significant amount of the production team's resources, manpower, and time to collect and revive her," the female director reprimanded Li Teng.
"Well... I couldn't help it, I was afraid she might accidentally come back to life, she's a ghost, after all!" Li Teng spread his hands helplessly.
"Cut the act! Don't you have any idea who's the ghost?"
