Chapter 36: Enemies on a Narrow Path
The second round of lottery drawing began.
This time, it was Li Teng, Gao Fei, and two other men drawing lots to determine the sequence of disembarking from the bus.
Whether it was the first stop, or the second, third, or fourth.
After the men's order of disembarking was determined, the women would choose at which stop to get off.
Since the sequence the men would leave was not disclosed, the women's choice was essentially random as well.
Whoever ended up with the ghost was likely doomed.
The men drew lots according to their rank; those of the same rank would roll dice to determine their order, so the sequence was easy to fix.
Li Teng drew the lot to disembark at the first stop.
If the Ghost Sign was with one of the other three men, he would be safe.
But if the Ghost Sign was among the four women and that particular woman chose to disembark at the same stop, he would have no choice but to leave with the ghost and then run into it in the narrow confines of the station.
A fight between a person and a ghost was a guaranteed death.
After the men completed the second round of drawing lots, it was the women's turn to choose their disembarking stop.
If the Ghost Sign was in the hands of a woman, they would all be safe.
But if the Ghost Sign was among the men, an ill-advised choice by the women would very likely result in disembarking with the ghost.
The consequences were predictable.
"Who exactly is the ghost? I'm so scared." The office lady looked at the four men seated, trying to discern something from their faces.
"It's me, get off with me," Glasses Man snickered.
"Get lost!" the office lady rolled her eyes.
The women's order of precedence was the fierce old lady, Sunglasses Woman, the office lady, and the young girl.
After the director announced it, the fierce old lady had the highest priority and would choose first.
Because of her rank, she also had the longest time to choose.
She could make her decision within six minutes.
During this time, she could question everyone to make her choice.
Of course, others could also choose to ignore her.
The stop chosen by the fierce old lady would be off-limits to the other women; they could only pick from the remaining three.
This process was different from the men's; the fierce old lady had to clearly announce in public her choice of the stop at which she would disembark.
The expressions of everyone present were somewhat anxious; this final round of choices was crucial.
It was a matter of life and death for each one of them.
In any case, out of the eight people, one was definitely going to die before the scene would be considered shot.
If you turned out to be the one accompanying the ghost, that would be a serious problem.
The fierce old lady didn't make her choice immediately.
Instead, she made a decision that shocked everyone.
She took her bamboo stick out of its holder and slapped it onto the table with a 'snap!,' pushing it to the middle and fully revealing the characters written on it.
There were three characters.
"You act ghost."
A gasp went up from the others.
They really hadn't expected the fierce old lady to be aggressive enough to voluntarily expose her own identity!
"Alright, no need for various exaggerated performances now. You three are safe," the fierce old lady said to Sunglasses Woman, the office lady, and the young girl.
Sunglasses Woman and her two companions patted their chests and finally relaxed.
"Not necessarily," said Glasses Man with a few snickers. "Perhaps after the ghost gets off, it won't kill its companion at the stop but use superpowers to rush to the front of the bus and wait for you at the next stop, killing two birds with one stone."
It had to be said, he had a certain level of brains to have considered such a possibility.
"Get lost!" the Sunglasses Woman and her two companions responded to Glasses Man with a single word.
"Cough... I was just trying to be helpful..." Glasses Man protested with an aggrieved expression.
"You four, please show me your Ghost Signs so I can decide who to get off the bus with," the fierce old lady turned her gaze to the four men.
The four men were all somewhat startled, and after a moment, Pretty Boy was the first to recover. He hurriedly took out his two bamboo Ghost Signs and placed them on the table.
His two Ghost Signs read 'you play Photographer' and 'get off at the fourth station'.
"Hmm, good! I've ruled out the fourth station; what about you three?" the fierce old lady said, looking at Glasses Man, Gao Fei, and Li Teng.
Gao Fei and Glasses Man looked at each other, unsure of what kind of medicine the fierce old lady was selling.
"Why not just speak plainly?" the fierce old lady spoke again.
"The three of you ladies are truly safe, I won't kill any of you, and I won't be bored enough to kill two people just to travel one stop," the fierce old lady assured the three women.
"Thank you," the three women expressed their thanks to the fierce old lady one after another.
"Three of you are also safe," the fierce old lady then said to the four men.
"I came this time for just one person."
"To be precise, to kill this person!"
As she spoke, the fierce old lady turned her gaze to Li Teng, her eyes revealing a sinister and venomous look.
The Sunglasses Woman glanced at the fierce old lady, then at Li Teng, her face showing a sudden realization.
Li Teng sighed.
Just how narrow can this path of enmity be!
After the last shooting, the Sunglasses Woman had reminded Li Teng to advance quickly, to increase his level and accumulate enough points to survive better.
Guo Zhipeng's mother, using her privileges, found her way here! Guo's mother arrived half a year before Guo Zhipeng, reached a higher level, and came to seek vengeance for her son.
Li Teng vaguely remembered that Guo Zhipeng's mother ran a gambling den in the real world and was ruthless and cruel.
Guo's mother used her three chances to pick roles to draw the only ghost among the eight people!
Now, all she needed to do was figure out which station Li Teng would get off at, get off with Li Teng, and then she could use her ghost identity to exchange for a ghost's superpower with points and easily KO Li Teng!
This play was different from the last one.
In the last play, when Guo Zhipeng crashed the car into Li Teng, Guo Zhipeng, holding the steering wheel, didn't have a 'get out of death free' card.
Li Teng cleverly used the High Stool to find a fortunate chance to counter-kill.
But in this play, ghosts can't be killed.
Any hope of a counter-kill was completely dashed.
Fighting ghosts, an ordinary Extra without a single point, against an Actor two levels higher with a wealth of points, there was absolutely no possibility of turning the tables!
How can one's luck be this bad?
"Hahaha... That's hilarious! This is really happening? It's like man proposes, but God disposes, what goes around comes around!" Glasses Man laughed heartily after understanding everything.
During the first scene, he followed the wrong person, choosing to side with Guo Zhipeng, resulting in Guo Zhipeng's demise.
Now in this crew, Li Teng was the most popular, and everyone followed his lead, fooled and manipulated by him.
Glasses Man, meanwhile, was ostracized by these people in all sorts of ways.
He hadn't expected his fortunes to turn, with Guo Zhipeng's mother arriving on the scene!
This thigh was even thicker than Guo Zhipeng's!
"What about your sign?" Guo's mother asked Glasses Man.
"Uh-huh! Here are my signs!" hurriedly, Glasses Man took out his two bamboo Ghost Signs from the case and placed them on the table.
His two signs read 'you play a supporting role' and 'get off at the second station'.
"Alright, I've ruled out another one; I won't choose the second or fourth stations anymore. Now only the first and third stations are left," Guo's mother looked at Gao Fei.
As long as Gao Fei revealed his sign, and once they knew at which station Gao Fei would get off, Guo's mother could deduce at which station Li Teng would disembark.
