Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 274: Lie Detection (3740 photos)

Li Teng desperately wanted to reach behind his head and dig out the biological bomb implanted in his brain.

But his body wouldn't move at all, completely out of his control.

This made him incredibly angry and desperate.

He suspected that the organization and Film and Television City were adversaries.

Although Li Teng had no fondness for Film and Television City either, everything the organization was currently doing to him immediately shifted his greatest hatred towards them.

He had suffered near one of Film and Television City's stone pillars for almost a month.

Now, just when he finally found a place to get food and drink, and where the pillars bore no disasters and one could barely survive, he ended up in the hands of these people.

The fact that a biological bomb had also been planted in his head, which could explode anytime he dared disobey their orders, made his situation worse than that of a slave.

Li Teng had no way out of all this at that moment.

He could only hope that the Death God APP installed in his Soul Space would help him crack the bomb's underlying encryption data and cut off the external remote control.

Only then would he have a chance to fight against their enslavement of him.

Otherwise, he would remain merely their tool.

...

Another day passed.

Li Teng finally regained control of his body.

There was good news.

The progress of the Death God APP in hacking the bomb's underlying encryption data had reached one percent.

Although slow, there still seemed a possibility of breaking it.

This made Li Teng no longer as hopeless as he had been before.

Once he could remove the bomb, he would ruthlessly overturn the organization, leaving no one behind.

No matter what faction they belonged to or what their purpose was.

The mere fact of what they had done to Li Teng had already touched his bottom line.

Unforgivable!

...

Eight people stood in a row in a rather large cabin.

In front of them were several individuals in uniforms.

And one in a white lab coat.

Li Teng looked straight ahead with a vacant and hollow gaze, as if his brain had lost all memories, turning him into a walking corpse.

The man in the lab coat used something resembling a flashlight, shining it into each person's pupils one by one, seemingly checking each person's reaction.

Li Teng continued his vacant gaze, letting his eyes instinctively react to the man in the lab coat's light.

"Alright, we can proceed to the next lie detection phase," said the man in the lab coat as he put away the flashlight and walked over to a nearby machine.

Two individuals in uniforms approached and led one of the actors to the machine where the man in the lab coat was now standing and then placed an electronic head mask on him.

The man in the lab coat began asking the actor questions.

Some of them were about Film and Television City.

He clearly didn't care about the answers to these questions; he was just testing the physiological responses of the person being questioned as they answered, which was hard to fake.

For instance, if these actors still had memories of Film and Television City, an inevitable anomaly would appear on some indicator of the polygraph when suddenly asked about it.

The first person passed smoothly, suggesting he truly had lost all his memories.

The second person also passed smoothly.

When the third person was asked about the Film and Television City, the lie detector suddenly started to squeal.

The person in uniform prepared to rush over, but the one in the white coat stopped him with a hand gesture.

The white coat then asked other questions again.

After a while, the lie detector squealed once more.

When the lie detector sounded for the third time, the white coat gestured for the person in uniform to go over.

The actor suddenly removed his electronic hood and sprang up, frantically running towards the door.

But just as he reached the door, his head exploded with a 'bang!'

Like a magnificent firework.

Then his body heavily fell to the floor by the door. His limbs twitched for a while before they stopped moving entirely.

Li Teng and the other seven stood there silently, their expressions blank and hollow, as if all this had nothing to do with them.

The fourth person, the fifth person, the sixth person…

All passed the test.

It was Li Teng's turn.

Li Teng had never been exposed to a lie detector before.

He could only try to empty himself, telling himself he was just a shell without memory or soul, not to have any emotional fluctuations.

Even though Li Teng tried very hard, when the white coat first brought up a question about the Film and Television City, the lie detector still squealed.

Li Teng didn't know the principle of the lie detector, but it was clear that no matter how relaxed he was or how much he controlled his emotional fluctuations, he could not deceive it.

At that moment, Li Teng felt as if he had already seen his head burst into fireworks.

He started considering who he should try to kill first in the moments before his head exploded to prevent a meaningless death.

"Host faced with a life-threatening danger, should the APP take control of the host's body to manage the host's body's vital signs output?" the Death God APP suddenly emitted an electronic sound.

"Agree," Li Teng swiftly confirmed, not expecting the Death God APP to have such a feature.

"From now on, the APP will control the output of vital signs of the host's body. The host can express the 'interrupt' command at any time by thought to discontinue the APP's control over the host's body's vital signs output," the electronic sound said again.

After allowing the Death God APP to control the output of his body signs, Li Teng now truly became a walking dead.

No matter what question the white coat asked afterward, the lie detector didn't sound again.

The white coat, not reassured, subjected Li Teng to a second test, which he also passed successfully.

"It seems there is a problem with the instrument," concluded the white coat, then placed Li Teng back in the lineup.

The eighth actor also passed the test successfully.

The white coat made a call, and after a while, a man in military uniform walked in.

"Welcome to the Rebels organization."

"Where there is oppression, there will be resistance," he declared.

"Wicked Film and Television City has been oppressing us, the poor actors," he continued.

"We absolutely cannot tolerate their atrocities," he added.

"Our goal is to destroy the Film and Television City! To rescue all the enslaved humans!" he announced.

Li Teng continued to empty himself… on one hand, we are not allowed to have any memories of the Film and Television City, memories are also erased, and now they are trying to instill in us that the Film and Television City is evil. Why bother?

If this Rebels organization truly wanted to rescue all the humans enslaved by the Film and Television City, there was absolutely no need to use such cruel methods on them. Wouldn't it be easier to recruit them using other means, such as liberty, food, women, and the like?

Thus, this was not a righteous Rebels organization but a malevolent organization carrying out their own wicked deeds under the guise of rescuing humanity.
