Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 230 Climbing (Additional 3330 Chapters)

The snow had stopped, but last night's blizzard had left nearly half a meter of snow on the ground.

This made it very difficult for the two of them to walk.

And that wasn't the only problem, zombies were buried underneath the snow but had not died. Walking on the snow's surface, they could step on a zombie's body at any moment, waking it up as it suddenly burst out from beneath the snow, delivering a nasty surprise.

Fortunately, after eating bear meat, Li Teng was in great shape, and the scattered zombies awakened by their steps didn't pose much of a threat to him and Liu Hui.

Later, in the woods by the mountain path, Li Teng found two suitable sticks. By poking around in the snow with them, they could wake up those zombies hiding underneath in advance.

The battles became much smoother after that.

Two hours later, they encountered a new problem.

Director Yuan was determined to crush Li Teng, the showoff, by any means necessary.

Their path from here to location B was now entirely within the mountains.

It was essentially a single path like Mount Hua's.

Straight ahead, according to the map, there should be a narrow mountain pass, a natural fissure between hundreds of meters high boulders wide enough for only one person to pass through at a time.

Now, it was completely blocked by the blizzard.

Blocked solid, as if it was one with the storm.

"Fuck me!"

After realizing the situation was hopeless with sheer cliffs and snowy precipices on either side, Li Teng, who had always been calm and never cursed in the script, finally couldn't help but swear aloud.

There's no way to continue the game!

They say that heaven never seals off all the exits, but this director had certainly cut off their path.

Failure to reach location B on time meant a penalty of 1000 points, and the outcome would be encased in wax.

Now, there wasn't even a path to give, how were they supposed to get across? Surely they weren't expected to fly?

According to the schedule, it was impossible for them to have reached this point before the blizzard; they had not delayed at all. Without a passage, was this meant to create an unsolvable problem?

How did such an unsolvable problem pass inspection?

After cursing, Li Teng dejectedly sat on a snow-covered rock, bowed his head, and fell silent.

Liu Hui walked over, took the map from Li Teng's hands, and studied it carefully for a long while.

"How about we try this place?" Liu Hui nudged Li Teng and brought the map in front of him to show him.

"What's there? Go fight zombies?" Li Teng was a bit puzzled.

The map indicated that there was a small number of zombies in that area, not too far from their current location, about two hundred meters away.

A small number meant somewhere between a dozen and twenty, previously scouted out by the encampment's reconnaissance soldiers and marked to allow the camp's personnel to avoid them as much as possible.

"Let's give it a try, we've got nothing to lose at this point," Liu Hui insisted.

Although Li Teng didn't know what Liu Hui was suggesting they try, in their current situation, he didn't have a better option. So he went with Liu Hui toward the area with a small number of zombies.

The area was relatively high, and due to the wind, it wasn't completely covered by snow. On a wind-sheltered plateau, there was a tent set up with a few zombies wandering outside and some others in a state of frozen stupor yet to be roused.

"Indeed," Liu Hui seemed to have confirmed something.

After careful observation, Li Teng finally understood why Liu Hui had come.

Several zombies were dressed in mountaineering attire, wrapped in ropes, and even carried tools such as mountaineering hammers in their hands.

"Try not to damage the tools and ropes in their hands; we can use those to climb over this part of the cliff," Liu Hui shared her plan with Li Teng.

"I've been through a lot of training, but I've never done climbing training," Li Teng spread his hands, admitting he was still a novice in this area.

Just as the Grim Reaper once said, humans can spend their lives training to the limit in certain areas, but they can never be proficient in everything.

"So there's something you can't do too? Don't worry, I can teach you," Liu Hui said with a proud look on her face.

"All right," Li Teng had no other choice for the moment.

The two of them fought cautiously and carefully wiped out all the zombies, both active and inert, in the area and then began to collect the mountaineering tools from their bodies.

Liu Hui found a pleasant surprise inside a tent—a luggage bag containing a complete set of mountaineering equipment.

This was probably the reason Film and Television City had not classified the script as impossible to complete.

Next to the main passageway blocked by the blizzard, there was mountaineering gear; if you couldn't walk past, you could climb over it!

Li Teng seemed to hear the sinister laughter of the plump Director Yuan echoing in his ears.

After helping Li Teng don the mountaineering suit, Liu Hui began to explain the basics of climbing, including ascending a snow wall, and then found a rock face about ten meters high to demonstrate.

With Li Teng's physical fitness and strength, he learned quickly. Following Liu Hui's instruction, in no time, he was able to climb up the ten-meter rock face with ease, along with Liu Hui.

Liu Hui originally planned to have Li Teng train for a longer period, but Li Teng felt that time was of the essence. It was imperative to get on the road after sufficient practice, or the journey ahead would be even more difficult.

Liu Hui reluctantly halted the training and began looking for a suitable climbing path at the base of the mountain.

Eventually, she chose a route that appeared relatively gentle and easier to ascend.

From this point, the first half would be a few hundred meters of rock exposed to the open air, followed by a snow-covered ice wall. By crossing over that, they should be able to bypass the blockage ahead and get back to the correct path towards Point B.

The two ate some tough frozen bear meat and gnawed on some snow to regain some strength, then prepared to start the day's climb.

"You must remember clearly all the key points I've told you; there can be no mistakes. Your life is in my hands, and mine in yours. If either of us is careless, both will perish, understand?" Liu Hui emphasized to Li Teng for the last time before climbing.

"I know, I value my life greatly," Li Teng nodded.

"Good," Liu Hui picked up the mountaineering hammer and started her climb toward the top of the several-hundred-meter-high rock face.

Li Teng stood below the cliff looking up; it was so tall that he couldn't see the top from the bottom, inducing a dizzying sensation.

One could imagine what the consequences of falling during the climb would be.

He repeated in his mind the key points Liu Hui had taught him and each step he needed to take.

Soon, Liu Hui stopped at a height of about ten meters, secured a rock wedge, and suspended herself on the rock face, then turned back and waved at Li Teng.

Li Teng took a deep breath and, swinging the mountaineering hammer, began to climb up toward her.

He was embarking on his first real rock climb in his life.
