Trembling At A High Altitude

Chapter 192 Don't Run (2379 additional chapters)

The general manager went to visit the Taoist in the morning, but the Taoist had already left.

However, he left behind a note and several talismans.

The Taoist said that he had been tirelessly drawing these talismans over the past two days to help them.

These talismans had the effect of preventing ghostly entities from invading, and could be affixed to the external walls around the house to form an array to drive away ghosts.

Originally, it should have been enough to deal with the evil ghost.

But he had not expected that eight people would turn against each other, sacrificing their companion to the evil ghost, thereby enhancing the evil ghost's powers.

His cultivation was not deep, so, he had no assurance that these hastily made talismans could withstand the now enhanced evil ghost.

To avoid getting involved, he left these talismans behind and departed early.

He hoped that those still alive would look out for themselves.

Before the general manager arrived, he already had a plan in mind.

Now with these talismans, he was even more empowered.

He affixed the talismans to the Taoist temple's main gate and the surrounding walls when no one was looking, as instructed by the Taoist, forming a protective array for the temple.

Then he returned to the courtyard and joined the others.

The words he wrote in the palm of his hand and his whispers were to inform his secretary, driver, and others about the array, instructing them to run into the temple protected by the array with him.

During this process, someone would inevitably be left behind.

The last person left alone would certainly become the target of the evil ghost.

As they entered the temple protected by the array, it was as if they had double insurance.

Although the general manager did not explicitly state who would be left behind and sacrificed to the evil ghost,

if anyone thought about it for a moment, they would realize it was not themselves.

But the elderly and frail Uncle Li, who always lagged far behind others when climbing the steps up the mountain.

Under the allure of double insurance, they chose to side with the demon, following the general manager in collectively sacrificing Uncle Li to the evil ghost, thus preserving their own lives and successfully completing the script.

So came the scene before.

After the general manager issued the order for everyone to depart, everyone ran off together.

Only the bewildered Uncle Li was left behind, trying to catch up with the others' footsteps but unable to reach them, and got locked out of the temple's main gate, several steps below.

The panting crowd inside the temple walls peered out through the window above the stairs.

Poor Uncle Li, realizing the temple's doors were closed, looked utterly desperate.

But, he was still struggling, climbing up step by step.

"Should we open the door for him after he gets up here?" the female accountant asked the group.

Everyone remained silent.

"Those in favor of letting him in, please raise your hand," the general manager asked.

No one raised their hand.

"Heh heh," the general manager laughed.

These people were no different from him.

They lacked courage, only dared to follow the flow, and only he had put his inner thoughts into action.

That was why he could play the role of the general manager, while they could only play some insignificant parts.

"Here he comes!"

The driver, standing by the window, whispered.

The crowd gathered at the window, and they saw a female ghost suddenly appear on the steps in front of Uncle Li, blocking his way up.

Uncle Li turned and ran down the steps.

But then… the blood-covered female manager and salesman appeared.

They blocked Uncle Li's way back to the old house.

Three ghosts, trapping him in a pincer move.

...

Li Teng couldn't make it to the Taoist temple and tried to flee back to the old mansion, but he was blocked by the female general manager and the salesman.

He had no choice but to turn back and run straight into the ferocious evil ghost.

The evil ghost unceremoniously stretched out her ghost claw and grabbed at Li Teng's head and face.

Although the female general manager and the salesman had their grievances, the evil ghost didn't care about such things.

Killing one person each night was the highest command given to it by the script.

Now that Li Teng was alone and available to kill, it naturally wouldn't bother forcibly breaking the Taoist temple's array.

Li Teng was utterly desperate.

His useless edition of "Time Prison" couldn't connect to this script world, and he didn't have energy drinks, a machete, or any of the guns stored in his storage space.

Even if he had them, those items would be useless in the face of an evil ghost possessing supernatural abilities.

He knew the general manager had set him up.

He had even anticipated this outcome beforehand.

Yet, he was powerless to change anything.

Being old and frail, he was naturally selected for elimination.

Given his current condition, managing to survive till the third night was already quite an achievement.

Just as the evil ghost's claw was about to catch him, Li Teng's wrist suddenly vibrated.

The evil ghost screeched, withdrew her ghost claw, and then looked at Li Teng with a somewhat puzzled expression.

Li Teng lifted his wrist and glanced at it...

"Attempting to decrypt the Life Resources password..."

"Identified known type of encryption algorithm."

"Decryption successful!"

"Life Resource Points obtained: 9 points."

After a moment of confusion, the evil ghost immediately reached out her ghost claw to grab Li Teng again.

Li Teng's wrist vibrated once more.

"Life Resource Points obtained: 11 points."

The evil ghost screeched again, withdrew her ghost claw, and had a baffled expression on her face.

Who was stabbing her with something like the Soul Spike? And absorbing her Soul Power!

Li Teng pretty much understood what was happening now.

The Grim Reaper had said that in the scripted world, if Li Teng killed the NPCs or monsters within the script, he could obtain Life Resources.

In fact, these NPCs and monsters, at the moment of their death when their spirits were most vulnerable, the Grim Reaper would extract the life resources contained within them in its own way.

But those NPCs and monsters died quickly, and their spirits disappeared rapidly, which made decryption difficult and often resulted in failure due to insufficient time.

Ghosts were different.

Ghosts were always in a state of spirit, and the encryption algorithm for their life resources might be similar to that of the current Grim Reaper; however, the settings for the Grim Reaper were much stronger than those for the ghosts, making it much easier to decrypt their life resource encryption algorithm.

This evil ghost trying to attack Li Teng, and being so close to him, why would the Grim Reaper miss such a great opportunity to steal the life resources within her?

After a moment of confusion, the evil ghost reached out her ghost claw at Li Teng again.

Li Teng's wrist vibrated once more.

"Life Resource Points obtained: 8 points."

Even the fool of an evil ghost now understood that the problem was with the man in front of her!

She couldn't play along with him anymore, she had to escape quickly, or else her life would be at risk!

The evil ghost turned and fled, and the two puppet-like figures, the female general manager and the salesman, also escaped with her.

"Hey! Don't run! Come back!" Li Teng couldn't receive any more Life Resources, so he quickly chased after them.
