Chapter 155: Braised Delicacies (2nd Update for Monthly Votes)
Li Teng hadn't expected it to have such an attack method and was caught off guard. He was kicked squarely and sent flying seven or eight meters before falling on his butt to the ground.
The Alloy Spiked Hammer in his hand was nowhere to be found.
A mouthful of fresh blood spewed out, and Li Teng felt several of his ribs had been broken by the kick.
The triumphant Bear Rhinoceros immediately got up, lowered its head, and with its horn pointing forward, charged again at the fallen Li Teng.
Enduring the intense pain in his chest, Li Teng quickly got up and rolled away, dodging the Bear Rhinoceros's charge. Then he ran back to look for his Alloy Spiked Hammer.
The Bear Rhinoceros relentlessly pursued him from behind. Li Teng checked his watch and narrowly avoided another charge from the Bear Rhinoceros with a timely change of direction.
He finally found the Alloy Spiked Hammer that had fallen to the ground.
The Bear Rhinoceros stopped, turned around, and with a fierce roar, charged at Li Teng again.
Having just picked up the Alloy Spiked Hammer, Li Teng swung it vigorously and once again struck the side of the Bear Rhinoceros's face, peeling away half of its face from the skull due to the cumulative damage from the previous blows.
After falling to the ground this time, the Bear Rhinoceros let out a pitiful howl and didn't get up from the ground for a long time.
This time with more experience, Li Teng didn't rush over directly but instead circled to the head of the Bear Rhinoceros.
Just as the Bear Rhinoceros was struggling to get up, Li Teng brought down the Spiked Hammer forcefully again, crashing it onto the exposed skull of the creature, eliciting a sound of breaking bones.
The Bear Rhinoceros cried out in pain and fell to the ground once more; it then scraped the ground with its hooves, trying to rise again.
"Die!" Li Teng swung the Spiked Hammer, furiously bringing it down again and again on the Bear Rhinoceros's skull. He vented all the hatred accumulated from yesterday's torment and the animosity from his broken ribs on the Bear Rhinoceros. After dozens of blows, the skull was completely shattered, and the creature finally lay still.
A Giant Rat seized the moment of Li Teng's distraction, charging to bite at his thigh, only to bite down on the spiked leg armor. After letting out a shriek and attempting to flee, it was swiftly struck by Li Teng with a hammer and sent flying. It landed on the ground, stretched its legs, and then did not move again.
Enduring the intense pain in his chest, Li Teng, holding the Spiked Hammer in one hand, dragged one of the Bear Rhinoceros's legs with the other, pulling the creature towards the big house.
After ringing the doorbell, Liu Yin opened the door.
Li Teng dragged the Bear Rhinoceros into the hall, then, gasping for breath, sat down on the sofa.
"You... you actually... killed this monster?" Liu Yin was startled when she saw the Bear Rhinoceros on the floor and after realizing it was dead, angrily kicked it a few times.
"The meat of this thing is definitely delicious," Li Teng said with a smile, and then winced in pain.
"In your world, everything probably falls into two categories: tasty or not tasty," Liu Yin said to Li Teng, exasperated by his constant thoughts of eating.
"Cough cough... I'll go rest for a bit. After I wake up, I'll deal with it—definitely a feast," Li Teng said, smiling again as he stood up, clutching his chest.
"Your injuries are serious, aren't they?" Liu Yin hurried over to support Li Teng.
"I won't die from them. A few injuries are just healthier," Li Teng continued to joke.
"I give up on you! Were you born with a masochistic streak or something?" Liu Yin said as she helped Li Teng into his bedroom.
"When there's no way to resist, all one can do is enjoy it," Li Teng said as he lay down on the bed, then set his watch alarm for thirty minutes later.
"Get some good rest, heal your injuries before getting up," Liu Yin urged, tucking him in with a thin blanket before leaving his room. She closed the door behind her and then proceeded to the treadmill room to continue running.
Before resting, Li Teng looked up at the countdown on the wall.
One Bear Rhinoceros had contributed 5,000 Time Index points to him.
The equivalent of hunting five Giant Rats.
Given the great difficulty of the hunt, the Time Index points contributed were not as many as he had imagined.
It was acceptable.
...
Half an hour later.
Li Teng was awakened by the alarm and checked the injuries on his body.
It seemed they weren't completely healed, occasionally hurting when he moved too abruptly, but they were no longer a significant concern.
He got up excitedly and rushed to the living room, humming a tune as he dragged the Bear Rhinoceros into the kitchen.
The house was big, and so was the kitchen, certainly big enough to handle the Bear Rhinoceros.
Skinned and deboned, in just a moment, Li Teng had separated numerous chunks of meat from the Bear Rhinoceros.
There were Rhinoceros Ears, Rhinoceros Hooves, Rhinoceros Ribs, Rhinoceros Tails, and the like.
Li Teng set up two pots, one for boiling Rhinoceros Ribs soup, to which he also added some lotus root from the fridge.
In the other pot, he added various spices and stewed Rhinoceros Ears, Rhinoceros Hooves, Rhinoceros Tails, as well as Rhinoceros Heart, Rhinoceros Liver, and other offals to make a spicy marinade.
"Once the water boils, help me lower the heat, then continue simmering. If there's too little water, just add some more," Li Teng said to Liu Yin before he headed out.
"You really have a big appetite," Liu Yin said, admiring Li Teng. She remembered that he had just eaten several Giant Rats; wasn't the meat from those rats still in his stomach undigested? And now he was cooking two big pots of meat.
"Hehe, those with a hearty appetite are always happy, and happiness is simple," Li Teng smiled.
"Indeed," Liu Yin sighed. Why couldn't she have as good an attitude as Li Teng?
"When I get a chance, I really must try a giant octopus; I bet it tastes even better," Li Teng licked his lips.
"The creature covered in slime?" Liu Yin felt a bit queasy at the thought.
"The monsters here probably all taste good. The more formidable the monster, the tastier it should be," Li Teng guessed.
"Okay then," Liu Yin didn't want to say any more about it. After all, she could just choose not to eat when the time came.
Li Teng stepped out again, this time aiming for the other two Bear Rhinoceroses.
Once he had beaten those two, he could find out what they were guarding.
Could it be a treasure chest, hiding powerful items that could significantly boost his strength?
He was very much looking forward to it.
...
Liu Yin stayed in the big house, running for a while before going to check on the two pots of meat as per Li Teng's instructions. When the water boiled, she turned down the heat, adding more water if it was too low.
Running, she passed about twenty minutes when suddenly, at the Time Index, the number behind the word "male" increased by 5000.
"He took down another one! He's really incredible!" Liu Yin's admiration for this man was growing by the minute.
An optimistic outlook, relentless spirit, iron will, formidable combat strength, never retreating, never admitting defeat.
Such a talent had once worked in her father's company. How come nobody had discovered him, recommended him to her father?
It was indeed a great loss for her father and the company.
If she ever had the chance to return to the real world with him, she would definitely introduce him to her father with grandeur.
Forget it, whether they could return was still uncertain.
She needed to learn to be stronger. Now that they were a couple, she shouldn't hold him back.
