Chapter 149: Illusion (4th Update for Monthly Votes)
"So what kind of meat do you say you can eat?" Li Teng had no choice.
"Pork."
"Right! This meat tastes almost like pork!"
"..."
"Anyway, it's neither a rabbit nor a dog, and certainly not a rat; it's a very despicable monster, and its meat is delicious." Li Teng passed the plate of fried meat to Liu Yin.
Smelling the aroma of the meat, Liu Yin finally couldn't resist opening her mouth, allowing Li Teng to feed her the meat.
And indeed, it was delicious.
Liu Yin quickly became full, of course, mainly because it was too greasy, so she couldn't eat much.
Li Teng washed, fried, and ate at the same time, finishing off the remaining few pieces.
"Aren't you going to sleep for a while?" Liu Yin asked Li Teng.
"I can't sleep; I need to make some preparations for the arrival of noon," Li Teng responded to Liu Yin.
Hearing the words 'noon', Liu Yin's face turned pale, recalling the horrific scene from the previous day.
"Will they… not… come again?" Liu Yin's voice started to tremble.
"That's why we need to prepare in advance." Li Teng couldn't comfort Liu Yin; he knew that someone as perverted as Liu Shiyuan would definitely follow the same pattern as the first day, with half a day of torment.
Being brought here from the top of the stone pillar with food, drink, shelter, and the possibility of healing, did they really think it was for their enjoyment? If they weren't pushed to the limit with torture and exploitation, wouldn't that eliminate any desire to plan a prison break?
Wouldn't the very setup of Time Prison lose its meaning?
So, Li Teng knew, without a doubt, that the afternoon carnage was going to descend upon them again.
While the pain of broken limbs was hard to bear, Li Teng knew all too well that there were many times atop the stone pillar when he endured similar pain for days on end, without a moment's respite.
To him, these days of half-day torture and half-day ease were not much worse than his time on the stone pillar.
The extreme hunger and thirst were also unbearable and could drive one to deep despair.
Having food and drink, especially the opportunity to find so much meat to eat, was worth the price; at least, everything that started yesterday at noon hadn't had much of an impact on his psyche, nor did it leave any scars.
Before this afternoon arrived, he had already considered the worst-case scenario.
He didn't have time to complain or hold resentments; what he needed to do was quickly find a solution to it all.
"What kind of preparations?" Liu Yin asked Li Teng, already looking hopeless.
"To avoid being attacked by those soldiers again and having our legs broken, we must escape from here before noon, the farther the better. I don't know if this is the solution to the midday torture, but for now, we can only try," Li Teng replied to Liu Yin.
"Okay, I'll go with you." Liu Yin was originally afraid to leave, but what happened in the big house yesterday noon was too traumatic to recall.
This big house was not a safe house at all, but a torture chamber.
The safety it provided them was nothing but an illusion.
After a full meal and drink, it was about 10:40 in the morning.
The two turned off all the lights in the room, closed the security door, and left.
They had an hour and twenty minutes to escape from this place.
Escape from this torture chamber.
Li Teng did not choose to go left or right of the house but instead took the straight path he had used before.
After all, he had already explored part of this road; he didn't know what kind of hidden dangers lay to the left or right.
Liu Yin wanted to hold onto Li Teng's arm for a sense of security but was rejected by Li Teng.
He had to fight.
Only through combat could he ensure their safety along the way.
On their way to the Hunting Cabin to hunt Giant Rats, Li Teng encountered two more Giant Rat attacks.
But for him now, this was no longer a trouble.
Having detected them in advance with his wristwatch, by the time they came into view within two meters, Li Teng had already trained a muscle reflex to strike them accurately, his hands would act before his brain even caught up, throwing the Spiked Hammer as if hitting a baseball with a bat.
All were lethal with a single blow.
In Li Teng's eyes, their bodies were not corpses, but fragrant chunks of meat, a pity they couldn't be taken back to the pillars.
After reaching the Hunting Cabin, Li Teng did not stop this time, but continued forward with Liu Yin.
Along the way, they killed three more Giant Rats, and after traveling a distance roughly equal to that between the large house and the Hunting Cabin, another large house appeared in front of them.
A house identical to the one Li Teng and Liu Yin were living in.
"Could it be the house where Elsa, Gao Fei, and the others are?" Li Teng, with Liu Yin by his side, circled to the front of the large house.
The security door was closed.
Li Teng pressed the doorbell, signaling Liu Yin to hide behind him.
No one replied, no one opened the door.
"You're not standing at the peephole, they won't dare to open the door," Liu Yin whispered to Li Teng.
Li Teng pressed the doorbell again, then went around to the living room window and peered inside.
The light in the living room was off; it was very dim. The curtains were not drawn, and with the light from outside, it seemed that there was no one in the room.
The furniture was arranged just like in the house of Li Teng and Liu Yin.
Without hesitation, Li Teng smashed the window with a hammer and climbed through.
Once inside, Li Teng carefully toured the house, then stopped in the middle of the living room, somewhat stunned.
"What's going on? Did you see Elsa, Gao Fei, and the others?" Liu Yin stood outside the broken window, and seeing Li Teng standing inside and spacing out, she grew frightened and quickly called out to him.
Li Teng went over to open the security door to let Liu Yin into the house.
Liu Yin was obviously scared, clutching Li Teng's arm tightly.
Li Teng took her to the kitchen door and had her look inside.
Giant Rat fur, unwashed plates, the grease in the pots.
This was the same large house that Li Teng and Liu Yin lived in.
"What's happening?" Liu Yin showed a terrified expression.
"Before the 30-day countdown ends, there's no way we're getting out of here. This large house, this area, is indeed a prison, isolated in both space and time. I suspect no matter which direction we go, we'll end up back at this house," Li Teng explained a few things to Liu Yin.
Liu Yin fell silent. She wasn't stupid; she understood the implications of Li Teng's words.
"There's still a lot of time. Let's try going left and right, anything is worth a shot," Li Teng patted Liu Yin's shoulder.
"Okay," Liu Yin nodded blankly.
The two of them exited the door again, this time going left.
After about a hundred meters, another Hunting Cabin appeared, identical on the outside.
After entering the Hunting Cabin, Li Teng was even more shocked.
