Chapter 134: Promotion Lottery (6th Update for Monthly Pass Votes)
Dark clouds quickly amassed, and there was no doubt that under the manipulations of the internally gloomy director, a sudden downpour was about to arrive in just a few minutes!
Based on past experience, there definitely wasn't enough time to force through the crowd.
Moreover, after passing through, it was uncertain whether that restaurant was indeed a safe house.
Now, returning to the street and taking shelter in the open-door houses they had passed earlier could avoid the rain,
but for Li Teng, who was already in the center of the street, the difficulty of returning to the street was not much less than the difficulty of reaching the restaurant across the street.
A clap of thunder roared, and sparse drops of rain began to fall from the sky.
This rainfall was evidently coming faster than the last one!
Li Teng had no other choice.
Under the dubious gazes of a few zombies nearby, Li Teng suddenly took out a stone he had hidden in his arms and threw it with all his might at the second-floor window of a building they had passed earlier on the street.
The action instantly woke the few zombies beside him, and as they discovered the anomaly, they almost simultaneously growled and lunged at Li Teng.
'Clang!' A loud noise rang out.
The window glass shattered.
Most of the other zombies in the center of the street were attracted by the noise and surged towards the source of the sound.
Li Teng, holding another stone in his hand, violently slapped it against the face of a zombie charging right at him. Then, taking advantage of the gap opened up by the moving horde, he dashed like mad towards the restaurant across the street.
The zombies along the way spotted the anomaly that was Li Teng and lunged towards him.
Like a rugby player, Li Teng ran while zigzagging to avoid the zombies' lunges. He pushed one zombie aside with his body, knocked another one unconscious with the stone in his hand, and finally crashed into the open doors of the restaurant like a cannonball.
Another thunderclap roared.
Behind him, the rain was now pouring down fiercely.
"Congratulations to Number 6, the first to enter the target safe house and successfully complete this performance."
The commentator's voice rose almost simultaneously.
"Damn! I gambled right!"
Still in shock, Li Teng's strength completely drained away, and he slumped to the floor inside the restaurant.
At this moment, Number 5 was still struggling a third of the way under the Great Iron Bridge.
The others hadn't even reached the halfway mark.
After a while, Li Teng got up from the floor, took off his stinky outer garments, and, wearing only his underwear, went to the restaurant bathroom for a shower under the faucet.
Even after the shower, he still smelled bad.
An indefinable source of stench.
But that would have to do for now.
"Please proceed to the third floor for your advancement lottery."
After Li Teng walked out of the bathroom, a staff member appeared at the staircase on the first floor of the restaurant.
"Can I draw now?"
"Yes, and there's a celebration banquet prepared for the eight of you," said the staff member with a nod.
Li Teng, not minding that he was just in his wet underwear, followed the staff member up the restaurant stairs.
The restaurant wasn't large, and the entire third floor was a private room.
In the private room were two waitresses dressed in red cheongsam, a very large dining table in the center with more than a dozen dishes on it, all complete with heating devices and steaming hot, with names labeled for each dish.
At a glance, there were common dishes like chicken, duck, fish, shrimp, and crab, as well as delicacies prepared from expensive ingredients like shark fin, dried abalone from the Middle East, and sea cucumber.
On the side wall was a large screen displaying a lottery wheel.
In front of the screen was a button to initiate the lottery.
"Can I eat before drawing?" Li Teng swallowed.
He had only eaten three steamed buns after leaving the hospital for this performance.
Just now, climbing the Great Iron Bridge and rushing into the restaurant had drained all the energy inside him.
Upon seeing these exquisite dishes, he was already unable to move.
As for the raffle...
Li Teng had always felt powerless to complain about his luck.
So, it was more practical to eat his fill first.
"Of course you can, first come first served," the staff member nodded.
"It's free, right?" Li Teng confirmed again.
"Yes," the staff member smiled.
"Thank you."
Li Teng immediately pounced on the food ready to clean out the plates.
Under the astonished gazes of the staff and two servers, Li Teng rapidly emptied the first dish, then the second, the third, the fourth...
After emptying eight plates, Li Teng finally stopped.
The staff and two servers let out a sigh of relief; they had been worried that Li Teng would stuff himself to death.
Especially since Li Teng was only wearing shorts, you could clearly see his belly swelling up like a zombie boss, looking as if it might explode at any moment.
"Will more be served after finishing these?" Li Teng pointed at the empty plates and asked the staff member.
"No more will be served, this is all the food prepared for the celebration banquet after the eight of you completed the promotion performance challenge," the staff member shook her head.
"No more?" Li Teng frowned.
After a quick trip to the bathroom, Li Teng returned to the private room and started on the ninth dish.
Then the tenth, the eleventh, the twelfth...
Half an hour after Li Teng entered the private room.
All the plates had been cleaned out, a total of eighteen dishes, without even a drop of sauce remaining, shiny as new—dishwashers could be laid off on the spot.
Li Teng knew that that cheater number 5 was right behind him. If he didn't eat, everything would be left to number 5, and it seemed that numbers 3 and 4 were next in line. They hadn't been kind to Li Teng when they cheated together, so Li Teng felt no need to be kind to them either. Even if he didn't finish everything, given their personalities, they wouldn't leave anything for those behind them out of good intentions.
The staff and servers looked at Li Teng's belly with concern.
Could it really not explode?
"I want a bottle of mineral water, bread is fine too," Li Teng muttered.
"We don't supply mineral water, nor do we provide bread," the staff member replied apologetically to Li Teng.
"No, I was talking to myself, you don't have to worry about it. I want a bottle of mineral water, bread is fine too," Li Teng continued to mutter.
The staff and servers looked at Li Teng strangely.
Could eating too much make a person stupid? Delirious?
After seeing the raffle wheel on the screen, the staff and servers quickly understood what Li Teng was muttering about.
This guy was really odd. To be the first to complete the promotion and not wanting to draw for a first, second, or third prize, but to be obsessively wanting a fourth prize!
What was this madness?
"I want a bottle of mineral water, bread is fine too."
"I want a bottle of mineral water, bread is fine too."
Li Teng kept muttering.
He was brainwashing himself.
He needed to convince himself subconsciously that the most prized items in the promotion prizes were the mineral water and bread, which he needed the most.
Then, he would strive to draw the mineral water and bread.
According to his usual luck, the thing he wanted the most was often... the very thing he couldn't get.
So now, he needed to make himself believe the thing he wanted the most was mineral water and bread.
And not those watches, phones, or the like that he found so loathsome, worth a hundred points.
Finally, at a certain moment, after coming up with a hundred good points for mineral water and bread in his mind, Li Teng felt an urgent desire for mineral water or bread. Only then did he rush over to the raffle screen, not waiting another second to smack the draw button.
