Chapter 129: Negotiation (1st update, asking for monthly passes)
The narrator's voice was extremely provocative.
However, after the narrator's voice ceased, none of the eight people sitting and drinking tea immediately got up and rushed downstairs.
They all seemed to be quite smart.
The world, which had been absolutely silent, became noisy after the narrator stopped speaking.
The noise originated from the street below the building.
Everyone put down their teacups and carefully made their way to the railing to look down at the street.
In just a moment's time, the street beneath the teahouse had become swarming with zombies.
Not to mention the Great Iron Bridge stretching across the river.
The bridge was also densely packed with zombies.
"Brothers, how should we play this?" the man with '2' on his chest whispered to the group.
"Let's cooperate for now, work out a plan together, so we don't end up with nobody getting across." Number 5 suggested.
"So... shall we go back to the table and discuss it?" Number 3 glanced at everyone.
There was no objection to Number 3's suggestion, and they all returned to the table.
At such a time, no one would be foolish enough to be the first to rush out to scout the path.
The advancement performance had begun, with many rules still unclear.
For example... What if one is bitten to death by zombies after going down?
If everyone is bitten to death by zombies and not a single person returns alive, how would ranking be determined?
Also, could the actors attack each other? Could one achieve a higher rank by attacking someone else?
According to the customary rules of Film and Television City, attacking another actor without a plot requirement only had one result: direct elimination.
And that rule was stricter than all the others.
So nobody would be foolish enough to risk testing this rule in such an important promotion performance.
"I think we should have someone stand at the staircase entrance to keep an eye on the situation below, in case the zombies rush into the teahouse and we're completely unprepared." After everyone returned to the table, Number 5 made a few suggestions to the group.
"Who'll go?" Number 3 looked around at everyone.
No one volunteered for the task.
"I'll go," Li Teng raised his hand.
"Good, Number 6, let us know immediately if you notice anything unusual," Number 5 was pleased to see someone take the initiative.
"Be careful not to be too loud," Number 3 instructed Li Teng.
"Alright." Li Teng headed to the staircase and, after glancing below, slipped into the workroom next to the stairs.
"What's Number 6 doing?" Number 4, who was observant, immediately alerted the others.
"Looking for weapons? That's not good, Number 6. We should discuss and decide on a collective action first," frowned Number 3.
"Who will talk to him?"
While everyone was discussing, Li Teng emerged empty-handed from the workroom.
"Number 6, what were you just doing?" Number 3 walked over and asked Li Teng in a low voice.
"I was checking if that window could offer a view of the area behind the teahouse. I'm worried about zombies climbing up the exterior wall." Li Teng explained to Number 3.
"First, keep an eye on the staircase here, don't wander off; we'll discuss other matters later," said Number 3 with a slightly displeased expression.
"Okay." Li Teng didn't say any more and dutifully stood by the stairs.
"I have some ideas I want to share with everyone," said Number 5, who appeared to be quite a leader.
The others kept quiet, waiting for Number 5 to speak.
"This is Film and Television City, meaning the NPCs during the performances will follow the common setups found in movies and TV shows. The typical zombies we are familiar with usually have the following traits..."
"Firstly, they have no sense of pain, so even if their limbs are severed, they can still attack humans. Secondly, if the brain isn't destroyed, the zombie doesn't die, giving them exceptional survival ability and the possibility to harm people even when cut in half. Thirdly, they're infectious; just one bite can turn you into a zombie, even if it's just a small wound. Fourthly, they are not afraid of light. Fifthly, they have a keen sense of smell and can track human scent from far away. Sixth, they are fast runners and can overcome obstacles while chasing humans. Seventh, there is an overwhelming number of them..."
"Does anyone have anything to add?" Number 5 looked around at everyone.
"I remember that there's another characteristic: zombies will move toward the source of a sound when they hear it," raised Number 3.
"Yes, that's a common trait. Does anybody else want to add anything?" Number 5 asked again.
"We all understand these things; there's no need to repeat them here. Just tell us your idea," said Number 8, who was impatient, prompting Number 5.
"First off, both the streets and the Great Iron Bridge are filled with zombies. There must be hundreds, if not thousands. It's impossible for us to fight our way through, and it's also impossible to break through by vehicle, as the wheels would get clogged with zombie bodies. Do you all agree with this?" Number 5 looked to everyone.
"Agreed, go on," they said.
"What I want to say is, in many zombie movies and TV shows, there's a common scene that might help us. That is, when faced with so many zombies blocking the way and we must traverse a certain section, there's a universal method."
"That is, we need to work together to kill a few zombies first, and then smear our bodies with the stinking fluids from the zombies. This will mask our human scent and trick the zombies into thinking we are one of them. This way, we can safely make it to the other side of the Great Iron Bridge."
"During this process, moving too quickly might give us away, and moving too slowly might mean we end up last. From there on, it's every man for himself."
"What do you think of my plan?" Number 5 looked around at everyone.
"I think smearing one's body with zombie fluid is an extremely dumb idea. With the zombie virus being so dangerous, what if we accidentally get it in our eyes, nose, ears, or mouth during the process? Wouldn't we be infected?" spoke up Number 8.
"Now's not the time to discuss logic. Speaking logically, the existence of zombies itself is unreasonable. Here in Film and Television City, the zombies will surely adhere to typical movie and TV show conventions; your objections are meaningless," Number 5 was quite dissatisfied with Number 8.
"I think Number 5's suggestion is feasible," said Number 3.
"It's worth a try," added Number 4.
"Does anyone object?" Number 5 looked around at everyone once more.
No one objected.
"Then I'll organize how we'll hunt the zombies now!" Number 5 was pleased with the situation, clearly having everything under his control.
"First, we need to find weapons. Let's see if we can get something suitable from the teahouse, but in the process, don't alert the zombies outside. After finding the weapons, bring them here, and we'll assign them collectively. Once everything is set, we'll open the door and try to lure the zombies one by one." Number 5 laid out his plan.
