Travelling through the interstellar world, starting with the real and fake daughter

Chapter 209 - Spaceship 3

After the two mercenaries entered the private room and the knocking ceased, the two controlled military cadets began to show subtle changes in their vacant expressions, with hints of struggle appearing on their faces.

The mercenary captain and the female mercenary noticed this immediately. They unzipped their jackets, took out a flat, elongated metal box from an inner pocket, and held it under the noses of the two cadets. Then, they opened the lid of the metal box.

Before the box was opened, Mai Dongzi’s mental abilities couldn’t penetrate it to see what was inside.

But as soon as the lid cracked open, Mai Dongzi saw clearly what was inside…

She didn’t know what it was, but instinctively felt a chill of terror. Reacting swiftly with her mental powers, she “pushed” whatever was shooting out from the box back inside and closed the lid. Not stopping there, she “confiscated” the box and tossed it into a corner of the room. To ensure safety, she also set up a mental barrier around it, preventing its contents from escaping.

Although her actions seemed lengthy, they took less than two seconds. The two mercenaries, suppressed by her mental force, could only watch the scene unfold with shock, their faces turning pale.

When Mai Dongzi “released” them, the mercenaries reacted quickly. Instead of looking for their opponent, they attempted to flee by opening the door.

However, Mai Dongzi, already prepared, unleashed her mental powers without hesitation, forcefully stabbing into their minds and rendering them unconscious on the spot.

After rendering the two mercenaries unconscious, Mai Dongzi carefully used her mental abilities to scan the corridor, ensuring no other mercenaries were nearby before opening the door and stepping out.

Since the adjacent room’s door was already open, Mai Dongzi quickly slipped inside.

The two mercenaries lay unconscious on the floor, while the two military cadets showed even more signs of struggle in their eyes, wavering between brief moments of clarity and confusion.

Once inside, Mai Dongzi confirmed that the mercenaries were fully unconscious. She closed the door, waved her hand in front of the cadets, and simultaneously extended her mental powers into their minds.

In their minds, she found an unfamiliar energy constraining their mental faculties. However, the energy wasn’t particularly strong, and Mai Dongzi easily dissolved it.

It was as if a shackle had been broken—the two cadets immediately regained full consciousness.

They looked at the two unconscious figures on the ground, then at Mai Dongzi. Understanding dawned on them quickly. “You saved us.”

Although they had been under control, they hadn’t completely lost awareness. They knew what the two mercenaries had intended to do to them. Just as the situation grew dire, the mercenaries suddenly collapsed, and this girl—who appeared to be around their age—had entered the room to resolve the crisis.

Though unsure of her identity or how she managed to incapacitate the mercenaries without showing herself, the cadets trusted her instinctively. Her calm demeanor and actions didn’t suggest malice.

“I’m Mai Dongzi, a first-year student in the Arts Department at Imperial University,” she introduced herself.

With important matters still to address, Mai Dongzi knew she needed to gain the cadets’ trust. She decided to be upfront about her identity, especially since she had already reverted to her original appearance before entering the room.

Hearing that she was an arts student at Imperial University, the cadets relaxed initially but soon found it hard to believe.

To reassure them, Mai Dongzi activated her smart device and displayed her student ID, confirming her identity.

The Imperial University and the First Military Academy are the two most prestigious institutions in the Blue-Black Empire. Although Imperial University is a comprehensive university and the First Military Academy is a pure military school with different recruitment focuses, Imperial University’s specialized departments recruit prospective military students and attract top talent with superior resources. This naturally frustrated the First Military Academy’s principal to no end.

Students of the First Military Academy were well aware of the differences between various departments at Imperial University. Without the student ID that the girl provided, the two cadets would have found it hard to believe her claims.

Wasn’t it widely known that Imperial University’s Arts Department was the one with the poorest cultivation potential?

But now, this girl named Mai Dongzi, only a freshman, had already reached the mid-stage of Level 6 as a martial artist. How could that be considered poor cultivation potential?

After all, no student at the First Military Academy had reached mid-Level 6. What did that say about their school?

“You’re an Arts Department student? You’re not lying to us?” asked Wang Liri, one of the cadets, in disbelief.

“No, she’s not lying. There’s a reason she’s in the Arts Department. Have you… participated in the Water Blue Star survival livestream game?” the other cadet, Zong Qingping, hesitantly asked.

Mai Dongzi immediately understood that this cadet knew something. Smiling, she asked, “Are you wondering if I’m the ‘fake daughter’ from the true and false heiress story?”

Zong Qingping looked embarrassed and apologized, “I’m sorry.”

“So, you are the fake heiress? No wonder someone with your level of cultivation is in the Arts Department. That explains everything!” Wang Liri exclaimed, finally piecing it all together.

He had heard the gossip about the “true and false heiress” story. However, as time had passed, Mai Dongzi’s current appearance was quite different from how she looked during the Water Blue Star survival livestream. Even though he had watched the game, he hadn’t recognized her immediately.

“More mercenaries are coming,” Mai Dongzi suddenly said, her expression turning serious.

She hadn’t been sharing her identity with the two cadets just to chat. She had been keeping her mental energy focused on monitoring the situation outside. As soon as the new mercenaries appeared, she noticed them.

The two cadets immediately became alert. Moments later, there was a knock on their door.

The sound of knocking made the two cadets instinctively flinch. They hadn’t forgotten how they had lost control of their bodies earlier after hearing a knock.

Fortunately, this time, nothing happened. The two exchanged a glance and then looked at Mai Dongzi, who softly instructed, “Lure them inside and capture them.”

Although the cadets hadn’t yet had a chance to fully discuss the mercenaries’ motives with Mai Dongzi, they were certain she had saved them.

Hearing her suggestion, they quickly nodded in agreement.

Wang Liri immediately acted, putting on a dazed and stiff expression as if he were still under control, and went to open the door.

The two mercenaries outside cautiously observed Wang Liri, ensuring his eyes appeared vacant before stepping into the room. Once they were inside, they relaxed and closed the door behind them.
