Chapter 9: Hungry Ghost Dao

Red Prajna!

Prajna is a type of vengeful spirit demon in Fusang legend, said to be an evil spirit formed from a woman's intense jealousy and resentment.

There are currently three main types of Prajna in folklore. The first type is Laughing Prajna, a somewhat common evil spirit, often appearing with a grotesque laughing face, especially enjoying scaring children. The second type is White Prajna, which folklore describes as born from insane jealousy and resentment, attaching to the narrow-minded vengeful woman, leaving at night to take lives, similar to a parasitic soul.

The last one is the Red Prajna.

This type of Prajna is the most ferocious among the three; it kills without any reason or justification, killing whenever it wants, and eating after killing, with extremely cruel methods.

"Alert!"

"Pollution source detected! Hostile entity from the Hungry Ghost Dao detected!"

As the Red Prajna appeared, many ghostly figures gradually emerged around as well. They looked tormented and more savage and terrifying than the ghosts Su Ziyu saw in the Ghost Capital. They started devouring the surrounding corpses as soon as they appeared, seeming as if they were starving, eating whatever they saw.

——"Hostile entity from the Hungry Ghost Dao!..."

All the ghosts that appeared are marked as hostile entities from the Hungry Ghost Dao, and they are all polluted entities. Fusang culture heavily influenced by Huaxia, especially after Jian Zhen's eastward journey during the Tang Dynasty, where Chinese studies flourished throughout Fusang. Virtually all the aristocrats had to learn Chinese characters, and it would be looked down upon if a noble couldn't recite a few Tang poems in this era.

With the introduction of Buddhism into Fusang, the concept of the Six Paths of Reincarnation also began to spread among the people.

"Gained 3 Source Power Value!"

Su Ziyu quietly approached the defeated Reincarnation Dao person and absorbed the Source Power Value into his pocket without revealing himself, opting instead to observe the skills of these Yin Yang Masters first. Anyway, as long as he touches the corpse last, he can get the Source Power Value, so he does not mind others fighting the monsters for him.

"Jie Jie!"

The Red Prajna laughed sinisterly, spitting out a ghostly blue flame. In an instant, she disappeared from her original spot and reappeared behind a Yin Yang Master.

A sharp ghost claw struck from the darkness.

Abe no Seimei's reaction was extremely quick, transforming the talisman paper in his hand into a chain to bind it, then said in a deep voice, "Yoshimasa! Yoshihiko! Back off!"

"This demon is not something you can handle!"

One by one, talismans floated in the air, protecting Abe no Seimei before him like an array. The Yin-Yang Dao stems from the ancient Chinese natural philosophy and Yin Yang Five Elements theory, originating from the School of Yin-Yang, a branch of Daoism during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods. Later, it started to merge with the chanted spells of Yin Yang Five Elements and was prominently practiced in the Qin Dynasty by alchemists.

In the late Eastern Han period, the Ghost Dao technique emerged in Fusang, suspected to be inherited from Huaxia's Celestial Master Dao. Queen Himiko of Fusang was the founder of the Ghost Dao cult during that time.

According to the Chi Songzi Calendar: "In the Han Dynasty, people and ghosts mixed together, evil spirits ran rampant. Tai Shang showed compassion, descended to He Ming Mountain, and bestowed upon Celestial Master Zhang the Zhengyi Alliance's Authority Talisman of one hundred and twenty degrees, along with the Rituals for One Thousand Two Hundred Officials, Three Hundred Chapters, and Secrets of Magic, to heal and manage people. The Celestial Master then established the Twenty-four Domains, expanded the Zhengyi Chapter Talisman, managed households and transformed people, spreading hidden virtues widely."

This was the beginning of all talismans.

The talismans Abe no Seimei used were somewhat different from Huaxia's Daoist talismans, but Su Ziyu, an outsider, couldn't discern the specific differences.

The main practice for Yin Yang Masters is the technique of summoning gods and exorcising ghosts, heavily influenced by Daoist teachings. The magic they practice focuses primarily on Five Elements Techniques, and their methods for sealing Great Demons are quite similar to Daoism, utilizing the power of mountains and earth veins and sealing with Talisman Secret Technique.

In sealing demons in the past, Abe no Seimei almost always chose famous mountains and rivers.

——"Soul Suppressing!"

Talismans rose with the wind, as Abe no Seimei made a sword-like gesture with his two fingers pointing forward. A faint dragon's roar suddenly resounded, startling Su Ziyu.

A Kikyo Seal appeared in mid-air.

The Kikyo Seal used by Abe no Seimei is unique to Yin Yang Masters, essentially a pentagram inscribed with various talisman patterns, representing the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth that symbolize all things in the universe.

Rumble!

A bolt of lightning came down from the sky.

Unlike the Spiritual Lightning that Su Ziyu wielded, what Abe no Seimei utilized at this moment was real Thunder Technique, the pinnacle of Daoist magic capable of commanding the power of lightning and thunder.

Dragon-like shadows appeared faintly before his eyes.

These weren't corporeal Eastern True Dragons, but rather spirit bodies offered up in religious rituals. It is said Abe no Seimei had twelve powerful Shikigami, namely Tengshe, Vermilion Bird, Liuhe, Gouchen, Cyan Dragon, Tian Yi, Celestial Empress, Tai Yin, Black Tortoise, White Tiger, Tai Shang, and Heaven. These were mostly inherited from Daoist orthodox deities, completely different from the ghostly shikigami other Yin Yang Masters commanded.

It is rumored that in this era, only Abe no Seimei could command a True Dragon spirit.

"This guy is incredible!" Su Ziyu's figure kept retreating.

He could sense some existences distinctly different from other shikigami emerging. As the sound of the dragon's roar echoed, a very palpable pressure made Su Ziyu feel slightly uncomfortable.

"Abe no Seimei!!!" From afar, the Red Prajna let out a painful wail.

As expected of the most powerful Yin Yang Master of this era, Abe no Seimei's move severely wounded the Red Prajna before him, and many nearby Hungry Ghosts were killed by the Thunder Technique. Shikigami emerged faintly, most appearing as Ghost Generals, with a few being peculiar demons. Under the command of the Yin Yang Master, they were gradually eradicating these Hungry Ghosts.
