Chapter 13: The Church's Executioner
Airelde's Painted World?
Sister Friede had mentioned this place before. Su Ziyu knew it was a world created through painting, and there were even quite a few indigenous people living within it.
This was originally left behind by the Divine Race, and it's said that it is still maintained by some descendants of the Divine Race. To Su Ziyu, it felt more like a half-plane that was developed, only attached to a painting. In Eastern legends, there are many such treasures; if the Space Enhancement Skill Tree could be activated, Su Ziyu might be able to do it himself.
Of course, it's just wishful thinking for now. The Source Power Value needed for Space Enhancement is indeed quite exorbitant.
"This plane entails both risks and opportunities." Su Ziyu followed Sister Friede back to the high tower, silently pondering: "As long as it's not an enemy at the level of Sun King - Gwyn, even against other Lords of Cinder, my odds aren't low."
"Whether I can harvest some Divinity Value depends on this opportunity!"
He ultimately reached a secret agreement with Sister Friede.
This Sister Friede would help him deal with other enemies, even against some powerful Lords of Cinder. In return, Su Ziyu must accompany her to Airelde's Painted World to accomplish a task.
"Take this."
On the high tower, Sister Friede handed over a peculiar branch, speaking softly: "That Giant seems to behave peacefully as long as you just talk to him."
"Let's head over directly."
From the tower, you could see the Onion Knight sleeping below. Su Ziyu shook his head, feeling that people in this world seemed odd. Perhaps it was due to the loss of humanity.
Their personalities appeared to have some obvious flaws.
Fortunately, his humanity was sealed by the Hourglass of Time, Su Ziyu could hardly imagine becoming like them.
Occasionally, some Undead would emerge along the way, but they were easy to deal with. Sister Friede would occasionally show her hand but spent most of the time spectating.
——"Soul of an Unnamed Warrior (Refinable): Refinement will gain 150 Energy Value."
Su Ziyu picked up another Soul by the roadside.
Nearby lay a warrior who had died some time ago, the corpse mangled, as if something had sawn it apart.
"It must be the work of Executioners around here." Sister Friede glanced at the sawn-apart remains, speaking softly: "Having no other means to dispose of the frenzied Undead, the Lorric royal family collaborated with people from the Abyssal Church."
"Some of the Undead were fed to the Holy Saint - Eldritch."
"The rest were directly sawn apart, leaving only the head and torso, disposed of in a safe place."
"There should be Executioners nearby."
"They might have gone mad too."
On hearing this, Su Ziyu shook his head, somewhat at a loss for words. Honestly, after understanding this world, he thought if there was a Death God, situations might improve.
Unfortunately, the only one who had a chance to become a Death God, the Tomb King - Nite, was captured and used as fuel for fire.
Generations of strong ones were turned into firewood, and apart from the initial Sun King - Gwyn, none have emerged close to True God level ever since.
"Let's go." Su Ziyu didn't look at those mangled bodies, instead continuing directly along the path.
Soon.
He saw the Executioners that Sister Friede had mentioned. They were small Giants, three to four meters tall, with exposed muscle massively built, scars littering their bodies. In their hands were weapons resembling a saw over two meters long, which looked a bit like a side blade. Their upper bodies were naked but bore some religious ornaments, behind them were large tanks containing splintered remains of numerous Undead.
The Executioners' eyes glowed faintly red, minds dominated by bloodthirstiness, and upon spotting Su Ziyu, several rushed at him from afar.
"Indeed, they've gone mad." Sister Friede drew her scythe gently, uttering: "Be careful."
"There might be instructors from the Abyssal Church nearby."
The sound of heavy footsteps filled the air.
The Executioners charged fiercely, immediately lunging at Su Ziyu with their massive saws aimed at his head upon nearing. Their weapons appeared to be torture tools, designed for handling rampaging Undead, blades featuring saw-like serrations while their handles could be used as side blades during combat. Upon defeating the Undead, they would use the saw's blade to shred the bodies, with the tanks on their backs meant to store the dismembered remains.
Bam!
Su Ziyu subtly dodged, thrusting the Yirushir Straight Sword instantly at the opponent's heart. As these Executioners weren't fully zombified, merely maddened, a pierced heart was enough for instant defeat.
——"Twisted Soul of an Executioner (Refinable): Refinement will gain 120 Energy Value."
Buzz.
As Su Ziyu steadily dealt with the Executioners one by one, suddenly Sister Friede's alert echoed: "Watch out!"
A bizarre swarm of insects lunged at Su Ziyu.
Crackle.
Lightning arcs flickered, and Su Ziyu swiftly reacted; as soon as the bugs were electrocuted, he brought out the Gauss Sniper Rifle, aiming at the obese figure over a hundred meters away.
This enemy looked somewhat familiar.
Her massive body weighed several hundred pounds, clad in Priest-like Chain Armor, holding a black book.
That's it.
She resembled the old hag Su Ziyu encountered at the dim chapel, who too held a Holy Scripture of Profound Darkness and had summoned those disgusting bugs.
Bam!
Su Ziyu decisively fired, and the distant Abyssal instructor shattered, turning into a shower of blood and flesh fragments.
When dealing with Casters, it's better to use safer measures.
The battle ended quickly.
These Executioners seemed to possess Giant blood, boastful of strength yet lacking in other abilities, not too difficult to defeat as long as their thrown tanks were dodged.
Su Ziyu walked further, observing a cliff with tossed dismembered bodies below.
The remains below were of Undead.
Executioners disposed of Undead by tossing them down, explaining the scant presence of Undead around here, likely dealt with by them.
Soon.
After following Sister Friede through several turns, Su Ziyu faced an ancient courtyard, with robust marble steps weathered and crumbling. The surrounding structures appeared several centuries old. By the roadside were some kneeling worshipping Undead, unmoving, ignoring your close proximity.
"Pollution source detected!"
