Trapped In A Novel As The Breeding Mate For Four Powerful Alphas

Chapter 343: Nothing takes fatigue away more than sweet food

Anyway, we got back to the hall and things were going well. I mean, I had to keep up my act as an aristocrat but it was better with Jin-Yeok by my side.

On that note, I still hadn't come across the thing my masters were so worried about that they warned Jin-Yeok about taking me here.

It's all normal to me.

Or is this just the beginning?

I still remember what Ki-hoon said,

"Oblivion is bliss. Please do not worry Jo-Pil's heart unnecessarily."

It bothered me.

There was nothing wrong with this party. None that I've come across. There were just pretty people in this pretty hall, most trying to impress Jin-Yeok, but aside from that, it was all normal.

What could be the underlying danger that could worry my heart?

I sighed.

No use thinking deeply about it, right?

I could just wait.

I saw a waiter walking around with some small chops and remembered my buffet table was waiting for me.

Without telling Jin-Yeok, I strode off to the table and started filling my plate again.

"I think I'll have this pretty dessert over here," I told myself, and planned to pick it up when someone bumped into me.

Who would dare?

I was sure I had made it clear I was not someone to be messed with.

"Oh, sorry. My mistake." A lady said as she bowed her head.

It looked like she had intentionally bumped into me but that wasn't the case. After seeing the other lady and a guy, presumably a recessive Alpha, standing a few feet away with their eyes on her like they wanted to skewer her, I could vaguely tell the situation.

"It's fine," I said, lending a hand so she could raise her head. "But be careful next time. You almost knocked my plate down."

"Y-yes. I'll be careful." She said but then an idea popped into my mind.

Maybe I should've minded my business but the hero in me wanted to help.

"Would you like to share a meal with me? You look hungry, haha." I said, handing her an empty dish, which bewildered her.

"Ah, I... I don't..."

"No need to thank me." I interrupted her and started filling her plate along with mine.

She looked like she was going through a lot. Poor her.

Maybe she was from a lesser family and was trying to gain favor with bigger companies by coming here.

But if you lack confidence, there's no way to get what you want. Unless the person you're after is the type that loves to protect damsels in distress.

"How is it?" I asked, watching her put one of the macarons in her mouth, and her face lit up.

"Delicious." She said, looking better and I smiled.

"Nothing takes fatigue away more than sweet food. Help yourself."

Jin-Yeok, who noticed late that I walked away from him turned around from the important person he was talking to, trying to look for me.

How was it that I sneaked away from him before he even realized it? His senses weren't that dull.

And then he noticed me by the food table. He fell at ease but not entirely as he saw me smiling with the girl I had helped.

What was I doing? He wondered and then excused himself to approach.

"You should try this too," I said to her, and started picking up one piece from everything on the table, unknowingly leading us to where the champagne pyramid stood tall and glistening like gold.

"They're all so good," she said, but her uneasiness sprang up again. "But..." She looked hesitant but asked anyway. "Why are you being so nice to me?"

"Hm? Is there a reason to offer good food to someone who's hungry?" I asked but she didn't take it like that.

"That... That's not why you're doing this, is it?" She raised her head and finally met my eyes.

That determination burning in her eyes... She was definitely someone worth helping.

"Well, let's just say I hate when rats gather around like there's cheese everywhere." I simply said and laughed. "Don't worry, if you're with me. They work dare to come close."

I made a reputation for myself after all.

This lightened her heart. To think there was someone she could talk to here without getting criticized.

The world wasn't completely bleak after all.

"Can I tell you my story?" She suddenly asked.

"Hm, your story?"

"Yes, I... I am someone who has fallen from grace."

Hm? Does that mean she's gone bankrupt or her family has gone bankrupt?

"I am here today because I'm looking for a huge investment. I am sure... If I can only secure that investment, I will be able to bring my family back to its feet." She said and though I shouldn't just believe what people say just because they say it with so much confidence... I did feel it was right to believe her.

Should I help? I wondered.

What if I end up getting scammed?

"But will you be able to bounce back just from securing the funds?" I asked her and she went silent. "I mean, it could work, but those who want to pull you down will try again, and that's all going to go down the drain. I believe..." I stepped towards her. "What you need is not just an investment, but an investment from someone with a big name."

If someone like Jin-Yeok invested in her family's company, then she would have nothing to worry about.

Well, it's not like I plan to ask Jin-Yeok for help. In this world, there's a give-and-take policy. I can't do it for free, not knowing if I'm getting scammed and will put Jin-Yeok in trouble.

I don't even know the kind of Business they do or why they went Bankrupt in the first place.

Better to play it safe and be careful.

"Oh, right. I didn't ask. What's your name?" I asked.

"My name is Choi Jie-Yu. I'm part Korean, part Chinese." She said, rubbing her hand anxiously and my eyes gradually widened.

"What?" That name... Though I wasn't very active in my later years after giving birth to my first two kids in the novel but... I was sure of it.

There was a name that created problems for the four Alphas more than anyone ever could.

And that name was precisely... Choi Jie-Yu.

How... How is someone so powerful here, looking like this?

I barely had time to process my thoughts when a burst of laughter rang out, interrupting my thought process.

But that wasn't all, among the laughing people, a careless elbow swung wide as if putting on a performance and they were just beside the glittering champagne pyramid.

Before they knew it, that careless elbow struck a glass and the delicate tower shuddered. One crystal flute tipped over and then another.

And before I realized what was going on, the entire pyramid began to collapse and I was right beside it.
