Chapter 111 Underground Cave, Mysterious Exotic Treasure_2
Yan Qingwu definitely can't just disappear like this... Never mind reality, even in a game, the female lead can't just vanish. Even if it's a Heart Demon, there must be another solution.
Wang Mu withdrew his gaze, realizing he must have overlooked something.
「Late in the month, Wang Mu received a Flying Crane Letter.」
The letter was from Senior Sister Tang Qi. She advised Wang Mu to pay attention over the next two months, as the Underground Cave was expected to open then. If he wanted to explore it, he would need to prepare in advance.
"Underground Cave?"
Wang Mu was startled, then became thoughtful. He still remembered this event.
I'd actually forgotten about this... With my current strength, I should be able to venture in...
The Underground Cave, as Senior Sister Tang Qi had mentioned before, was a hidden mining site. It only opened during a specific time of the year. It was also within another Sect's jurisdiction. Wang Mu had been near there once on a Sword Flight while Traveling.
That Sect... I think it's the Mountain Mist Sect, right? Wang Mu recalled. It's quite a distance from the Sword Sect, requiring about five days by Sword Flight. The Sect's allegiance is neutral, and its overall strength in the Cultivation World of Huangtian Continent is considered near top-tier. Most of its disciples seem to be Body Cultivators. Senior Sister Tang Qi said the Underground Cave was located near the Mountain Mist Sect. After she visited it annually for a few years, the Mountain Mist Sect apparently became aware, so she stopped going. The location might have shifted slightly now, requiring careful exploration to find it.
Wang Mu's interest was piqued.
If that was the case, Wang Mu didn't leave immediately. Instead, he continued to practice the Ten Thousand Sword Technique at Heavenly Sword Peak while he waited. Waited for a Travel event. Based on his experience, the Underground Cave was surely connected to a previous Travel event from Yijian Peak. As long as he received critical information from Senior Sister Tang Qi, there was a high likelihood of this Travel event occurring. If not, he would have to search for it carefully himself.
「At the beginning of the third month, Wang Mu finally got the Travel notification.」
[Travel: ...Mountain Mist Sect (1 a.m., center of Wulan Swamp, seven days)]
There really is one...
Wang Mu immediately packed his belongings and headed to the location via Sword Flight. With a Travel event active, he could head straight to the destination.
With my current strength and Mining Skill, I should be able to explore this Underground Cave... I hope to find some Treasures. Failing that, mining some high-quality Spiritual Ore would also be good.
Wang Mu traveled swiftly, arriving directly within the territory of the Mountain Mist Sect five days later.
The Mountain Mist Sect, located in the eastern part of the Huangtian Continent, was a fairly reputable Cultivation Sect in the Cultivation World of Huangtian. The terrain in the eastern part of Huangtian was mostly flat, consisting mainly of basins and plains with few high mountains. The Mountain Mist Sect was situated on the mountainside of one of these rare eastern mountains. Legend had it that its founding patriarch once carried this great mountain for ten thousand miles across Huangtian before finally setting it down here to establish the Sect. He was also a legendary Body Cultivator of Huangtian.
Upon entering the Mountain Mist Sect's territory, he saw many patrolling disciples. Much like the Sword Sect, whose disciples routinely undertook patrols as Sect tasks, other Sects had similar duties. These mostly involved clearing out Fierce Beasts that periodically appeared near the Sect and ensuring the safety of villages within their jurisdiction.
I've arrived.
Wang Mu landed on a steep, uneven slope and gazed ahead. Below, on the low plain, numerous neatly arranged villages dotted the landscape. Many villagers herded domesticated animals, and occasionally, a Cultivator flying through the air would land to patrol the area. In the distance, a colossal white mountain stood abruptly on the plain.
That must be the Mountain Mist Sect's territory... Wulan Swamp should be around here somewhere...
The disciples of the Mountain Mist Sect followed neither the Righteous Path nor the Evil Path; they were neutral. They were the type who, whether you were a Demon from the Evil Path or a Righteous Cultivator, wouldn't provoke you as long as you didn't provoke them. They focused on quietly developing within their own territory, maintaining relations with cultivators from both the Righteous and Evil Paths.
Wang Mu soon found a Mountain Mist Sect disciple and attempted to befriend him.
"Apologies, fellow Daoist. Our Sect is currently dealing with important matters and is not permitting outside Cultivators into our jurisdiction. Please take a detour or consider Traveling elsewhere. If you need any materials, state what they are, and we can arrange an exchange at the entrance."
Unexpectedly, his attempt to befriend the disciple failed.
Previously, Senior Sister Tang Qi had mentioned that the Sect might have become aware of the Underground Cave. Now, with its opening imminent, they're refusing entry... Forget Wulan Swamp, I can't even get into their territory? If I were to trespass, it would likely cause trouble. This is their territory, after all...
This is interesting... Wang Mu thought. Getting to the Underground Cave now seems troublesome. This is a bit tricky, he mused.
He returned to the steep slope and watched from a distance. Many disciples were patrolling, some of them in the Foundation Establishment Realm. Trespassing into Mountain Mist Sect territory would likely lead to immediate discovery.
Just as Wang Mu was at his wits' end, he suddenly felt the ground beneath his feet tremble. Then, the earth caved in, and a small, yellow head popped out.
"PHEW... I almost suffocated."
SQUEAK SQUEAK. A voice followed.
Wang Mu's eyes widened.
"Jinmao Rat?" Wang Mu exclaimed in surprise.
"Yo, Big Brother, we meet again!" The rat chirped as it fully emerged from the ground. "TSK TSK, less than a year and you're already capable of Sword Flight!"
"What are you doing here?" Wang Mu asked, surprised.
"I followed you all the way here, of course!" The Jinmao Rat shook the dirt from its fur. "You flew past the border of Beast King Mountain on your sword a few days ago. I spotted you from way down below. I had some business with you, so I tailed you. I was originally planning to go to the Sword Sect, but their patrols have become more frequent in the last six months. I couldn't find a chance to sneak in. They haven't even been recruiting new disciples or opening the mountain gates, which would have given me an opportunity..."
"You were looking for me?" Wang Mu paused. "Oh, right. Did you run into any trouble after you returned?"
Hearing this, the Jinmao Rat leaped up, its eyes sparkling. "Big Brother, how could you even ask? Of course, I had no trouble! Thanks to you, I now have an official position at Beast King Mountain! I'm a recognized member! Our Beast King treats me very well! That map you gave me, it was world-changing! Incredibly powerful!"
As it spoke, the Jinmao Rat recounted everything that had happened after it returned.
After listening, Wang Mu was silent for a few moments. He was now quite certain that Xiong Ba of Beast King Mountain was, in all likelihood, the same black bear from all those years ago.
"That's good," Wang Mu nodded. "You're quite fast for a rat, managing to keep up with my Sword Flight."
The Jinmao Rat chuckled. "Of course! I might not have other skills—when it comes to fighting, any Little Demon in Beast King Mountain could thrash me. But for speed on the ground, not many can compare!"
Wang Mu smiled.
"Big Brother, I came this time specifically to repay your kindness," the Jinmao Rat said, mimicking a human's cupped-fist salute. "If there's anything I can help you with, just say the word! I'm no good in a fight, but if you're looking for some Treasure, or perhaps need to 'divine someone's fate,' I might be able to help."
An idea struck Wang Mu. This rat has arrived at just the right time.
After a moment's thought, Wang Mu briefly explained his predicament.
"Isn't that simple?" The Jinmao Rat grinned confidently. "I know the Mountain Mist Sect, and I've heard of Wulan Swamp. I haven't heard of any Treasures there, though. But if you want to go inside for a look, Big Brother, that's a piece of cake for me. Give me one day."
With that, the Jinmao Rat dove into a hole and vanished.
Wang Mu waited quietly.
「One day later.」
The Jinmao Rat reemerged.
"Big Brother, follow me!"
The Jinmao Rat was covered in dust. It stomped its foot and whispered, "I'll use my Earth Escape Skill in a moment. I've dug a tunnel directly to Wulan Swamp. This Mountain Mist Sect is quite interesting. The Wulan Swamp you mentioned has no restrictions, but another area nearby has complex wards, even sealing off the ground. I don't know what they're up to. But your intuition was spot on, Big Brother! When I went beneath Wulan Swamp just now, I sensed a disturbance deep underground. There was a Blazing Light, like fire! There must be some Exotic Treasure hidden there!"
Saying this, the Jinmao Rat lowered its voice further. "SHHH. By my guess, it's highly likely some kind of Divine Flame..."
