Chapter 216: Sylvia Vs Dakin.
Their reckless courage reignited the students around them.
Shields slammed together with renewed force as defenders drove forward in a wall of steel. Mages chanted in unison, sending a rain of firebolts into the enemy ranks.
Flames erupted in dazzling bursts, burning through the black smoke and turning night into day.
For a heartbeat, it felt as though the students might turn the tide. Their war cries rose above the chaos, echoing against the shattered buildings.
Prisoners fell screaming beneath the storm of steel and magic.
But the enemy's hunger for blood did not wane.
From a distant ridge, high above the burning village, there stood another shadow disciple.
The Shadow Disciple stood hidden among the rocks. His cold voice drifted on the wind, unheard by the desperate fighters below.
"Yes… fight harder," he whispered, a cruel smile curling across his lips.
"Every drop of blood, every scream of despair—it feeds the darkness. Soon, the true hunt will begin."
Down in the square, amid fire and smoke, the young heroes of Bighall Academy fought on, their bodies battered and spirits strained.
At the Blackstone village.
Professor Sylvia stepped into the ruined square.
Around her, the students—Elysia, Edwin, and a handful of frightened villagers—huddled behind a broken stone wall.
"UMBRA FANG!" the demon roared.
Dark energy burst from his body in a violent wave, ripping through the air like a storm of knives.
The cobblestones cracked under his feet as he charged forward with terrifying speed.
Shadows coiled around his arms like living snakes, forming jagged blades of pure darkness.
"Oh no…" Edwin's face was drained of color.
"He started his madness again!" said Edwin.
"Madam," Elysia gasped.
"He's the one who attacked us during training—before the midterm exams!"
Professor Sylvia's eyes narrowed. She remembered the dark figure who had once trespassed onto their academy grounds.
"Stay behind me," Sylvia said.
"No matter what happens, do not interfere."
The demon grinned. "Ah… the silver witch herself," he sneered. "I've been waiting for this."
With a sudden lunge, he vanished into a blur of black mist.
A heartbeat later, he reappeared in front of Sylvia, his shadow claws slicing downward with lethal speed.
Clang!
A radiant silver barrier flared into existence, stopping the strike just inches from Sylvia's chest.
Sparks of dark and light energy burst across the square as the two forces collided.
The ground beneath them trembled from the impact.
"You dare protect these weaklings?" the demon snarled, pressing against her shield.
"They will all die anyway!"
"Not while I still stand."
With a sharp flick of her wrist, she released the barrier and thrust her hand forward.
A blast of icy wind exploded from the tip, striking the demon square in the chest.
Frost bloomed across his torso, coating his shadowed skin in glittering ice.
But the demon only laughed. With a violent shake, he shattered the ice like glass.
His claws lengthened into wicked black blades, and he leapt high into the air, coming down with a roar that split the night.
"UMBRA FANG—SECOND FORM!"
The square erupted in chaos as the ground cracked beneath his strike.
Cobblestones shattered, sending jagged fragments flying in every direction.
Students screamed and ducked behind rubble, shielding their faces from the deadly debris.
Sylvia raised her hand, summoning a shimmering wall of silver light to protect the students.
The barrier hummed like a ringing bell as stone fragments and shadow blades hammered against it.
"You'll have to do better than that," she said coldly.
Her hand pulsed with power. "Glacial Spear!"
Dozens of icy lances formed in the air above her, each one sharp enough to pierce steel.
With a single command, they shot forward in a deadly rain.
The spears struck the demon from every angle, piercing his shoulders, chest, and legs.
Dark blood sprayed across the cobblestones as he staggered backward, snarling in pain.
The demon's eyes flared brighter.
"You… will regret that!"
Dark smoke poured from his wounds, forming a writhing cloud of shadow that swallowed the square.
Within the black fog, his figure split into multiple afterimages, each one flickering like a phantom.
Orwen squinted into the darkness. "Which one is real?"
"None," Sylvia answered.
"He's using shadow phantoms to confuse us. Stay low and keep your mana shield ready!"
The demon's laughter echoed through the fog. "Can you protect them all, witch?"
Suddenly, one of the phantoms darted forward, claws slashing at Edwin.
He barely raised his sword in time, sparks flying as metal met shadow.
The force of the strike sent him stumbling back, his boots skidding across the stone.
"Edwin!" Elysia shouted, reaching for weapons nearby.
"Stay behind cover!" Sylvia said. Her hand lit up once more, releasing a wave of brilliant light.
The silver radiance tore through the fog, burning away the shadows and revealing the true demon crouched on a rooftop.
Before he could escape, Sylvia pointed her hand upward.
"Frost Nova!"
A blinding explosion of ice erupted from the ground, freezing the rooftop in an instant.
Sharp crystals raced up the walls like living vines, trapping the demon's legs.
He snarled, swinging his claws to break free, but Sylvia was already moving. In a flash, she leapt into the air.
"Silver Moon Strike!"
Her magic descended in a shining arc, slamming into the demon's chest with crushing force.
The impact sent a shockwave through the square, scattering debris and cracking the frozen ground.
"Just how many skills can you perform… damn ..", the demon shouted.
The demon roared in agony as the ice spread across his body, locking his arms and torso in a cage of crystal.
Dark blood seeped from the wounds, staining the icy prison.
The students held their breath, watching as Sylvia landed gracefully on the cracked stones.
The demon's head slowly lifted. A wicked grin stretched across his bloodied face.
"Impressive… ," he rasped with pain.
"But this… is not the end."
With a violent surge of shadow energy, he shattered the ice around him.
Shards of crystal flew in every direction, slicing through the air like knives.
Sylvia raised her barrier just in time, shielding the students from the deadly fragments.
The demon staggered backward. Deep gashes bled across his arms and chest, and his breathing came in harsh, ragged gasps.
"Remember me!" he shouted, his voice echoing through the ruined village.
"I am called… Dakin!"
Before Sylvia could strike again, a swirl of shadow engulfed his body.
In an instant, he dissolved into a cloud of black mist and vanished into the night, leaving only the faint smell of blood and smoke behind.
Elysia lowered the bamboo she randomly picked up. "He… he escaped."
Sylvia exhaled slowly, "He's injured," she said. "He won't get far tonight."
