Chapter 213: Shield of the Fallen!
His eyes locked on the demon, determined not to let Kael become the target.
"No, it's me—the strongest," Jin shouted, stepping beside Edwin with both of his twin blades.
(What… no! I'm doing this for the future… you all are hopeless!) Elysia thought frantically.
Her plan—whatever desperate thread of foresight she was following—was slipping out of her control.
"Face me," Edwin demanded, lowering his stance and pointing his blade directly at the demon.
"But release them all. They are innocent and weak. Your fight is with me."
The demon's grin widened, cruel and amused.
BOOOOOMM!
In less than a second, he was gone from sight—a blur of dark movement faster than any human eye could follow.
Before anyone could react, the demon's fist crashed into Edwin's face with a sickening crack.
The sheer force of the punch sent shockwaves through the plaza.
Edwin's body flew backward like a ragdoll, slamming into a pile of broken stones with a heavy thud.
"What the f—!" Kael shouted, his eyes widening in disbelief.
"He's become strong… in just three months?!"
(In the novel, when he appears, he was weak, so weak that even a rank-five first-year could defeat him!) Kael thought.
(What the hell is going on here? He shouldn't show up now. He was supposed to appear in next year's event. The novel is changing the story!)
The demon straightened, his crimson eyes blazing with dark amusement.
Then, with a roar that rattled the stones beneath their feet, he swung his massive right arm outward.
WHOOSH!
The sweeping blow tore through the battlefield like a hurricane.
Kael barely had time to brace before the shockwave slammed into him, lifting his body off the ground and hurling him against the remains of a collapsed house.
Jin, Elysia, Alina, Seraphina, and the other survivors were all thrown violently across the plaza, slamming into rocks, broken walls, and smoldering debris.
Dust and smoke filled the air, choking their lungs as they coughed and groaned in pain.
"Damn… he's become so strong…" Edwin spat blood as he struggled to push himself upright.
"And I… can't activate my ruin… I'm too injured."
Elysia staggered to her feet. Raising her sword toward the sky, she shouted with all the strength she had left:
"DIVINE STAR OF WAR!"
The earth beneath her feet shuddered, and from the middle of the shattered houses behind her, a colossal figure began to emerge—a towering, radiant woman of pure astral light.
She held an enormous sword forged of shimmering celestial energy.
The ground trembled as the radiant giant raised her weapon. Elysia's voice rang out again, fierce and commanding.
"JUDGE OF TITAN!"
The giant warrior swung her massive sword downward in a devastating arc, the air around it splitting with a blinding flash.
The blade of starlight carved toward the demon with unstoppable force, leaving a trail of searing
brilliance in its wake.
The demon crossed his arms, muscles bulging with shadowy energy as he braced for the attack.
The sword of the Titan crashed against him with a deafening BOOM, the shockwave rippling through the plaza and sending chunks of stone flying.
The demon's feet slid back across the broken ground, but he remained standing, his grin only widening despite the smoking wound that appeared across his shoulder.
Kael, coughing and barely able to see through the haze of dust, pushed himself up from the rubble.
Blood poured from a cut on his forehead, blurring his vision.
"ASTRAL PUNCH!" Kael roared, gathering what little mana he could muster.
His fist glowed faintly as he leapt forward, channeling all his strength into a single strike.
The demon turned his head, too slow to completely avoid the blow.
Kael's glowing fist slammed into the demon's stomach with a resounding crack, driving him back half a step.
At the same moment, the Titan's massive sword descended again, catching the demon across the head with a brilliant flash.
The impact shook the ground and sent a shockwave of dust and debris spiraling outward.
For the first time, the demon staggered—just slightly—but the wounds were shallow, a mere scratch to his monstrous power.
Kael collapsed to one knee.
His arms burned from the weight of his sword, his mana nearly depleted.
He hadn't even managed to release his full skill; his body simply couldn't keep up. Blood oozed from a cut across his cheek where the demon's earlier blow had grazed him.
Elysia swayed on her feet.
The radiant Titan flickered like a dying star before vanishing completely. Her strength was spent.
The demon wiped a smear of black blood from the corner of his mouth.
"Interesting," he rumbled.
"You've grown… but you're still nothing compared to me."
Kael clenched his jaw, his mind racing even as exhaustion threatened to pull him under.
(This… this isn't how the story was supposed to go. He's not supposed to be this strong. He's not supposed to be here at all.)
(No… I should save them all at all cost!) Edwin thought.
Blood dripped from his forehead, blurring his vision, yet his determination burned brighter than ever.
Above them, the demon roared, its massive frame leaping high into the smoke-filled air.
Both of its clawed hands came together like a hammer of black stone, its shadow stretching across the ruined plaza.
Elysia's eyes widened as she sensed the strike coming.
Her instincts screamed at her to move. With a sharp twist of her body, she dodged to the side, dragging her sword along the dirt for balance.
The shadow of the descending blow followed her like a falling mountain.
But Kael… he was still on his knees, barely able to lift his sword.
In the split second before impact, Edwin surged forward.
He threw himself between Kael and the demon's crushing strike, his arms spread wide as if he could shield them with sheer willpower.
"Edwin—NO!" Kael's voice cracked with panic.
(Edwin??) Elysia thought, shocked by his sudden, reckless movement.
The demon's fists came down with an ear-splitting BOOOOM, slamming into Edwin's body like a falling mountain.
Edwin's world exploded in pain. His bones screamed, and his lungs nearly collapsed from the crushing force.
But even as blood gushed from his mouth and his legs buckled, he held firm, his body absorbing the deadly blow to shield Kael.
(If I can't beat this demon… then at least I can save them all,) Edwin thought, his mind steady even as darkness began to close in at the edges of his vision.
His sword slipped from his grasp, clattering uselessly to the ground, but he refused to fall.
