Transmigrated: The Lycan King’s Pet

Chapter 212 In the Shadow of Her Name

My fingers brushed over his lips, my gaze softening. "Does it hurt?"

His brows furrowed slightly, like he was in deep thought. "Yes… It hurts so much." He groaned.

"What can I do to ease the pain?" I blinked innocently at him.

"You…"

"We found a cave. Let's move now before the rogues find us." Rhydian stood a few meters from us.

I retreated my hands away from Damon's face, and a faint hue of embarrassment kissed my cheeks.

"Thank you Rhydian." I forced myself to my feet, grimacing from the pain that shot through my spine. Damon held my arm, supporting me.

Rhydian walked towards us. His eyes lingered on Damon's hand on me, "Let me help Princess, Damon is seriously injured." He offered his hand.

Before I could part my lips, Damon swatted his hand away. "I never complained about it." His hand wrapped around mine tightly.

"I'm only saying for your own good," Rhydian said through gritted teeth.

"I didn't ask for it. Mind your business." Damon calmly replied, his voice cold and sharp like a blade.

Damon motioned me to walk, but before we could take a step, Rhydian blocked Damon's path.

"Princess Aeris is my business. And you are interfering with it." Rhydian sounded possessive.

I felt Damon's body tense, like he was ready for a battle. He clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Get off my face, and I won't say it twice."

The air became tense, almost suffocating to breathe. "Can you both stop right now?" I glanced at both of them.

'Why do I have a feeling that they might get into a fight?'

"He should step away from me,"

"And you should let go of her, I'll help her." Rhydian's eyes hardened.

"No." Damon held his gaze, engaging in a deadly eye contest.

'What is wrong with both of them?'

Mr. Green eyes stepped in. "We need to get going now, it is not a good idea to stay in one place for too long… especially where the portal has opened."

Mr. Four eyes let out a frustrated sigh. But none of them was ready to back down.

"Mr. Green eyes, help me please." I pulled away from Damon, holding Mr. Green eyes' arms for support.

"Aeris…"

"Enough Damon, I'm tired," I muttered under my breath.

"Are you sure this is a good idea? Why do I feel like you are using me as the scapegoat?" He whispered in my ear.

I looked at him, my eyes held a knowing glint. He chuckled at my expression. "Fine, I'll be the knight who saved the day."

Mr. Four eyes led the way to the cave. I looked over my shoulder, looking at Damon and Rhydian who were walking behind us.

They both had a grim expression. Damon kept glaring daggers at Rhydian before directing them at Mr. Green eyes.

I returned my gaze to the far distance in front of me.

I felt someone's gaze on me, I turned to my side, only to find Mr. Green eyes staring at me.

"Do I have something on my face?" I asked with a puzzled look.

"No." He paused, returning his gaze to the horizon. "You just look like someone I knew… a close friend." His usual cheeky voice was gone, and his voice carried sadness, and guilt.

'Is he talking about Ember? Does he also know her?'

"Really? How close were you to her?" My curiosity got the best of me.

"Hmm. You really look like her. But your personality is different from hers. She is very smart and brave," a small smile formed on his lips. "Quite troublesome, but very daring. She and I had been in a life and death situation… that's how close we are." His voice was solemn.

"She must be very powerful and strong." I clenched my hands unconsciously.

I felt small hearing her qualities, those are something I can never amount to.

"But you do share some of her qualities, and you are also stubborn and brave." He turned to look at me.

"Really? Tell me more about her."

"Hmm. She was regarded as a genius after she solved a problem plaguing the land for years. She was very protective of her people. She was not afraid to question the higher-ups. She even fought beside me even when she had zero fighting skills… she saved my life." He swallowed, his eyes showing his suppressed pain.

"She referred to her and me as Hansel and Gretel."

"I noticed you speak about her in the past tense. What happened to her?"

He sighed, pausing as if he was thinking of what to say. "She was different… and she was abandoned by her own people. I was not able to stand up for her… now I feel like a coward." He looked away, hiding the pain in his eyes.

"I'm sorry to hear about that, Mr. Green eyes."

"It's Alaric, my name is Alaric." He turned to meet my gaze, and he looked at me with hope in his eyes. The look of asking for a second chance.

"Alaric," I muttered. "I think you are a good friend Alaric. I believe she knows that too. And I don't think you are a coward, you might have a reason why you didn't act." I rubbed his hand.

But my words did nothing to comfort him, rather they only made his expression turn sadder.

We are here, Mr. Four eyes, stopped in front of a cave.

I scanned the environment, the cave was the only one in the area. Around the cave was just empty space with rocks scattered around it.

'So this is where we'll be sleeping? I'm not sure if it feels like safety… or a trap waiting to cave in.'

We entered the cave. Alaric dropped me at the entrance.

"Let me scout inside the cave." He flashed me a smile before venturing inside the cave along Mr. Four eyes.

"Are you feeling any pain?" Damon stood beside me.

"No," I answered in a monotone voice.

He remained silent. He held his hand behind his back, his raven black hair was ruffled, but it only enhanced his appearance.

'Control your thoughts, Aeris. Do you think he is following you around because he likes you? He is doing all of this because you look like his Ember… because you are a substitute for him.'
