Chapter 196 Leaves, Petals, and the Wind
White nodded his head, then he placed his paw over my hand, as if he was trying to tell me "I got you."
The gesture brought warmth to my chest. A small smile formed on my lips.
I ran my hands through his fur. "What a knight you are? I'm afraid I might fall over heels for you if you were a male." I chuckled, wiping the tears off my face with my other hand.
He growled in satisfaction, wagging his tail.
The day went by faster than I had anticipated, White was a little bit handful to manage.
…
My eyes opened to the golden rays of the sunlight that had filtered through the curtains.
I tried to sit up but it was impossible. Like something heavy was sitting on me.
I looked down only to find White lying on me. My body had already gone numb.
I sighed deeply. "What a great way to start the day."
"Get off me, White." I groaned in desperation.
Hearing my voice, he got up and gave my face a quick lick.
"Good morning too." I dragged my body to the balcony.
The cool breeze brushed my hair, kissing my cheeks. I closed my eyes, savouring the fresh air.
White stood behind me, staring far into the distance.
"Is everything alright White?" I lowered my back to be at his level, I ruffled his fur before giving him small pats.
He lowered his head into my touch.
"Do you miss home…"
Before I could finish my words, a familiar voice came from behind me.
"Princess Aeris!" a white butterfly perched on my shoulder.
"White!" I called out happily… however my smile disappeared when White began growling, his grey eyes narrowed at the butterfly.
"Enough, you should be nice to White, I mean White the butterfly." I glared at him.
I turned to the butterfly. "White, meet White… the wolf."
'What an awkward situation? White meets White? Hehe.'
White the butterfly folded her tiny hand across her chest giving a stern look at White. "Where did you come from, beast? And why are you hanging with the princess? You look fishy… I bet you have an agenda."
A smile crept on my face, and I turned to White the wolf. His expression had turned to one of irritation, I could feel his murderous aura.
White the butterfly fluttered closer to my ear, whispering, "Princess, he might have enchanted you. You've been acting strange lately… sleeping with a beast and feeding him royal meals? And you didn't even speak with us yesterday."
I winced. "It wasn't like that. He just…" I looked at White, who had started pacing like he was done with the conversation. "…he's… not bad."
White the wolf let out a loud, irritated snort, his tail slapping the floor once before he trotted off toward the bed.
White the butterfly scoffed. "Typically, no manners."
"I think you should both get along," I said, rubbing my temples. "I already have enough problems."
White the butterfly looked at me with sadness in its eyes. "I know this is a difficult moment for you Princess… even the servants are already busy decorating the castle for the party."
"Wonderful." My throat bobbed up and down.
"If you don't want to get married, why didn't you run away like you always did?"
"Because it is my duty?"
"You are not even sure yet." white sighed. "I heard that you rejected Golden."
I looked into the horizon, my gaze was distant, and a frown settled between my brows. "Golden's home is in the Witches' realm. Venturing there won't only endanger my life, but I will not be able to set foot in the fae realm."
"That is true… but I thought you always wanted to venture into the world? Won't you visit the other realms to call it the world?" White tilted its head.
I bit my lower lip, clenching my hands into a fist.
"I doubt you want to live your life in a golden cage. You've always felt different, getting married won't make you happy.
It might relieve the burden from your family's shoulders, but you will be the one who will sacrifice your happiness and freedom.
And I know they won't even value your effort, because they think you are a misfit.
I believe if you want to gain their respect and the respect of the Fae, then you have to be yourself, fight for yourself, for your happiness, and your freedom.
You never know what you might discover along the road. I know for sure, you will come back stronger. Don't let anyone force a burden down your throat."
White's gaze softened. "I want you to be happy. Fight for it if you must."
"White…" My voice cracked, my shoulders trembled. "I must look like a coward right now, I don't even know what I want."
"No, you are not a coward. I have never met anyone as brave as you." White flew hovering over my face, wiping the rear of my face with its tiny hand.
I lowered my head, letting the tears roll down my cheeks freely.
"You have to find out what you want… When the wind blows, the trees dance to their tune, and leaves and petals journey with it.
That's their personal strengths, the tree cannot journey with it because it will die and the leaves and petals have no strength to refuse to follow it.
You cannot have both of them, you have to choose what you will lose. If you choose to be the tree, you can become strong so that you won't break.
However, in a heavy storm, you might break.
But if you choose to be the leaves and petals, though the journey is arduous, there is hope, you might journey to a rich soil, and if you have a seed with you, you might become the strongest tree to withstand all odds.
You might become so big that no wind can make you dance or break. But to become this strong, you have to overcome all challenges life hurls your way."
"White… I think I want to be the leaves and the petals. Though I will leave my place of comfort, and far away from home, I want to come back stronger. I need to find the real me." I said, conviction burning in my eyes.
